Optimal Location Of Ev-Pv Charging Stations In A Radial Distribution System., El Shaimaa Eid, Mohammed Saeed, Magdi El-Saadawi
Mansoura Engineering Journal
The increasing penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) will greatly affect the operation of distribution networks. On one hand, the EVs can benefit the electric distribution systems. On the other hand, the connection of EVs to the distribution networks poses a series of new challenges for electric utility operators. This paper proposes an algorithm for optimal location of a combined EV-PV charging station in a distribution network for minimizing the system losses. The proposed method depends on PSO for solving the optimization problem. The method is performed in Matlab/Simulink and is applied to a 33-bus radial distribution test system with and …

Sediment capping—a method used to stabilize and remediate contaminated subaqueous sediment in lakes or river shores by covering the contaminant with multiple layered materials— is a more effective, economic, and durable in situ treatment compared to ex situ methods such as dredging. The caps are typically composed of porous geomaterials such as gravels, sands, Reactive Core Mat (RCM), including reactive soils (e.g., organoclay) and geosynthetics (e.g., geotextiles). The designed caps are regarded as water-permeable so as not to disturb the sediment; however, the caps become unsaturated state because of trapped gas generated from the decomposition of organic matter. Most of …

Loss of functional small bowel surface area following surgical resection for disorders such as Crohn's disease, intestinal ischemic injury, radiation enteritis, and in children, necrotizing enterocolitis, atresia, and gastroschisis, may result in short bowel syndrome, with attendant high morbidity, mortality, and health care costs in the United States. Following resection, the remaining small bowel epithelium mounts an adaptive response, resulting in increased crypt cell proliferation, increased villus height, increased crypt depth, and enhanced nutrient and electrolyte absorption. Although these morphologic and functional changes are well described in animal models, the adaptive response in humans is less well understood. Clinically the …

The Effects Of Glycosylation On Immunogenicity And Replication Of Emerging Viral Pathogens, Elizabeth Carvosso Clarke
The Effects Of Glycosylation On Immunogenicity And Replication Of Emerging Viral Pathogens, Elizabeth Carvosso Clarke
Biomedical Sciences ETDs
For filoviruses, a family of hemorrhagic fever viruses, the main antigen for vaccines in development is the glycosylated glycoprotein GP1,2. How the glycosylation of GP1,2 differs when the protein is produced in different cell lines is unclear. We showed significant differences in the types of glycans conferred onto filovirus GP1,2s in produced in mammalian-origin and insect-origin cell lines. Mammalian-derived filovirus GP1,2s have diverse N-linked glycans and extensive O-linked glycans, whereas insect-derived filovirus GP1,2s have N-linked glycans that are primarily paucimannose type and have no observable O-linked glycans. We then showed that differences in glycosylation impacted how immunogenic the proteins were …

Microscopic properties of various radiologic contrast materials are studied for weak to strong surface interactions in model fruits. These interactions are imaged under various ionic environments as present in multiple, common fruit systems. Low and high X-ray energies may show different imaging noise reflective of scattered radiation from iron, manganese, and other metal ions in fruits. This will be compared with MRI image noise on similar systems obtainable from collaborating MRI research students (see Bleidis Buitrago et al, in this poster session).

Our results provide insight on how City Tech students perceive OERs, in comparison with traditional resources. This also pinpoints the key pedagogical features that OERs should offer in order to attract, engage and better …
Measuring Influence On Twitter, Daniela B. Martinez
Measuring Influence On Twitter, Daniela B. Martinez
Publications and Research
A survey took in MAT 1372 about students' opinions on Twitter showed that most of them assumed that if a Twitter account has more followers, it will receive more likes or replies. However, accounts can buy followers, and followers do not necessarily mean engagement. In this paper, we used Twitter because it is a significant player in social media, but we can measure influence without using Twitter's follower count. We took a reference from Meeyoung Cha's article "The Million Follower Fallacy," which has demonstrated that the Twitter follower count is a meaningless metric in determining influence. To measure influence, a …
