Nevada Supreme Court Summaries

In an opinion drafted by Justice Stiglich, the Nevada Supreme Court considered the scope of its recent opinion in Clark County School District (CCSD) and whether that scope applies to more than investigative reports. The Court ruled that courts should apply the test adopted in CCSD when the government asserts any nontrivial privacy interest. The Court reversed and remanded the case for consideration as to whether disclosure of a unit assignment is likely to advance a significant public interest under CCSD and for the district court to balance that interest against the government’s nontrivial privacy interest.

In the event that submariners become trapped aboard a disabled submarine (DISSUB), they must perform a multitude of cognitively demanding tasks in order to maximize their likelihood of survival. During this time, submariners will also be forced to endure poor living conditions, including drastic changes to their nutrition. These nutritional changes have the potential to impair submariners’ cognitive functioning and affect operational performance, which could jeopardize survival; however, the effects of DISSUB nutrition on cognitive performance are not well understood. Purpose: The purpose of this first-in-man study is to directly measure thoracic tumor immobilization by high frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV).

Methods: In an IRB approved protocol (IRB # 2017-046) we screened patients with conspicuous lung tumors that exhibited motion >10 mm to undergo kV fluoroscopy with HFPV. Two sets of consecutive AP (anterior posterior) fluoroscopy frames were acquired during multiple breathing cycles for free- and HFPV- breathing. All images were acquired using our kV source/panel of the therapeutic linear accelerator. This thesis's scope was to construct a highly back drivable and compact joint design that can be used for wearable exoskeletons specifically designed to assist with rehabilitation. A compact cycloidal gear transmission was designed to satisfy the compactness requirement while ensuring the minimum torque is required for backdriving the mechanism. The Impact Of Net Stable Funding Ratio On Bank Performance And Risk Around The World, Bowo Setiyono, Ahmad Maulin Naufa

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

This study examines whether liquidity, as measured by net stable funding ratio (NSFR), impacts bank performance and risk. Based on an annual panel data set consisting of 2,909 banks from 127 countries, we find that NSFR reduces both performance and risk. These results are uniquely different in the robustness analysis under various settings (non-linear relationships, high versus low NSFR, and conventional versus Islamicbanks). Overall, NSFR implementation brings benefits in the form of risk reduction rather than performance improvement to banks around the world.

We study illiquidity in ASEAN-5 sovereign bond markets from 2008 to 2019 by using an illiquidity measure, which is based on a proxy of the amount of arbitrage capital available in sovereign bond markets. Our analysis identifies three drivers of illiquidity in Singapore, namely economic policy uncertainty, the default spread and the GDP growth rate. In contrast, liquidity of all other markets is mostly not characterized by economic drivers. It appears that overall liquidity is lower in the markets outside Singapore and therefore deviations in these yield curves are higher on average and arbitrage eliminates larger deviations not immediately but …

The Nexus Among Employment, Productivity And Trade Openness: Evidence From Brics And Indonesia, Badri Narayan Rath, Masagus M. Ridhwan

This paper investigates the nexus among employment, labor productivity and trade openness in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS), and Indonesia using annual data (1991–2018). The results suggest a long-run relationship among the variables but only in the agricultural sector of these economies. We also find a unidirectional causality running from employment to productivity in only the agricultural sector. Similarly, trade openness also Granger causes employment. Our final result indicates that trade openness positively influences labor productivity in the long-run. From a policy perspective, it is imperative for BRICS and Indonesia to target employment generation by promoting trade openness.

Monetary Policy Rules In Malaysia, Singapore And Thailand, Chai-Thing Tan, Azali Mohamed

This paper investigates whether monetary policies in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore are best represented by either the Taylor rule or the augmented Taylor rule. It finds that the augmented Taylor rule, which incorporates the exchange rate and government spending, best represents monetary policies in these countries. The results show that past inflation and the output gap play a role in the monetary policy reaction function in Malaysia and Thailand. The results further show a strong preference towards interest rate smoothing, government spending, and the exchange rate by the central banks.

Hong Kong’s housing market witnessed a dramatic housing price appreciation in recent years, with the price index for private domestic housing units being three times higher than ten years ago. This trend is supported by both internal and external factors, as illustrated in this paper. By developing a theoretical model and an empirical analysis on the key variables influencing housing prices using monthly data from 1999 to 2018, we find that the main drivers of housing price appreciation are from the demand side and include income level, money supply and inflation.
