Immunotherapy And Prevention Of Breast Cancer, Neelam Thacker Dec 2020

Immunotherapy And Prevention Of Breast Cancer, Neelam Thacker

Muthanna Medical Journal

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and is a leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Despite the significant benefit of the use of conventional chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies in the prognosis of breast cancer patients and although the recent approval of the anti-PD-L1 antibody atezolizumab in combination with chemotherapy has been a milestone for the treatment of patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer, immunologic treatment of breast tumors remains a great challenge. In this review, we summarize current breast cancer classification and standard of care, the main obstacles that hinder the success of immunotherapies …

Whipping Up A Storm: Trying To Make Sense Of Constitutional Law, Allan C. Hutchinson Dec 2020

Whipping Up A Storm: Trying To Make Sense Of Constitutional Law, Allan C. Hutchinson

Osgoode Hall Law Journal

The effort to make sense out of what the judges of any Supreme Court do is all the more pressing and acute in times of political turbulence. Lawrence Lessig’s Fidelity and Constraint offers itself as one such effort to distinguish constitutional decision-making from “the ad hoc in politics” by its reliance upon principled and neutral reasons; it is the judges’ detached and professional nature that underwrites their democratic legitimacy and institutional commitment. This review challenges those claims and demonstrates how Lessig’s analysis does more to undermine that project than achieve it.

Race On The Brain, By Jonathan Kahn, Shruti Ramesh Dec 2020

Race On The Brain, By Jonathan Kahn, Shruti Ramesh

Osgoode Hall Law Journal

Canadians and Americans alike are often reluctant to honestly confront our respective nations’ histories of racism and discrimination. Unflinchingly describing a legacy of colonialism, genocide of Indigenous peoples, and multigenerational slavery, is a great deal more uncomfortable than the academically “safe” analyses advanced by critical race theory. Simply put, academic conversations around “racism” are increasingly being replaced with conversations about “bias.” This is what legal scholar Jonathan Kahn addresses in his book Race on the Brain: What Implicit Bias Gets Wrong about the Struggle for Racial Justice. Kahn’s book is a response to a trend toward scientism within the interdisciplinary …

A Capital Asset Pricing Model With Idiosyncratic Risk And The Sources Of The Beta Anomaly, Mark Schneider, Manuel A. Nunez Dec 2020

A Capital Asset Pricing Model With Idiosyncratic Risk And The Sources Of The Beta Anomaly, Mark Schneider, Manuel A. Nunez

ESI Working Papers

We introduce a generalization of the classical capital asset pricing model in which market uncertainty, market sentiment, and forms of idiosyncratic volatility and idiosyncratic skewness are priced in equilibrium. We derive two versions of the model, one based on a representative agent who cares about three criteria (risk, robustness, and expected returns), and the other with a microfoundation based on three types of investors (speculators, hedgers, and arbitrageurs). We apply the resulting capital asset pricing model with idiosyncratic risk (IR-CAPM) to provide a new theoretical account of the beta anomaly, one of the most fundamental and widely studied empirical limitations …

On Peer Reviewing: How To Nourish An Author’S Mind And Win A Jldhe Editor’S Heart, E Loughlin, A Syska, G Sedghi, C Howell-Richardson

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

Editors and publishers of scholarly journals rarely agree on what makes for a good publication; they do, however, agree on the need for a robust peer review process as a crucial means to judge the merits of potential publications. While fraught with issues and inefficiencies, a critical and supportive peer review is not only what editors rely on when assessing scholarship presented for publication but also what authors hope for in order to improve their work. Understanding how peer review may best serve all parties involved: authors, editors, and reviewers, is thus at the heart of this article. The analysis …

Investigation Of Natural Convection In Enclosed Concentric Cylindrical Annuli., Elsayed Elshafei Dec 2020

Investigation Of Natural Convection In Enclosed Concentric Cylindrical Annuli., Elsayed Elshafei

Mansoura Engineering Journal

An experimental study of natural convection in a cylindrical enclosed annulus filled with air has been carried out to investigate the effect of diameter ratio and the angle of inclination on the rate of heat exchanged across it. In different case studies the inner cylinder surface is heated up at a uniform heat flux, surrounding atmospheric dir convectively cools the outer cylinder The annulus is long with respect to the gap width (L/8>>1). The experiments are performed in the horizontal case for modified Rayleigh number (R α. S)α ranging from 5 to 105 and diameter ratio of 1.15 /DoDi2.3. …

Semi (Θ)-Compactness In Intuitionistic Fuzzy Topological Spaces., I. Hanafy, A. Abd El-Aziz, T. Salman

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The purpose of this paper is to construct the concept of semi 0-compactness in intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces. We give some characterizations of semi 0-compactness, locally semi 6-compactness A comparison between these concepts and some other types of compactness in intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces are established.

Psychological Stress And Cancer: New Evidence Of An Increasingly Strong Link, Rosanna Martinelli Dec 2020

Psychological Stress And Cancer: New Evidence Of An Increasingly Strong Link, Rosanna Martinelli

Translational Medicine @ UniSa

To date stress, a highly complex process that disrupts homeostasis and involves environmental and psychosocial factors, is considered as one of the most crucial factor that affects our daily life, especially urban dweller's life.

Clinical and experimental studies widely support the notion that adrenergic stimulation due to chronic stress affects inflammation and metabolism.

In this work, supported by several recent scientific evidences, we show how stress plays a positive role in cancer initiation, progression and cancer metastasis, a negative role for anti-tumor immune function and therapy response.

Understanding the intricacies of this interaction could provide an additional help on how …
