Hobbit Caves Access Bridge: Logan, Ut, Bailey Mabey, Katrina Mccoll, Hayley Sharkey, Spencer Tanner, Allison Valencia
Civil and Environmental Engineering
The National Forest Service proposed the reconstruction of a pedestrian bridge leading to the Logan Canyon Hobbit Caves. At the proposed location the previous bridge foundation failed leading to unsafe conditions.
Currently visitors must cross the creek on foot to access the Hobbit Caves. This disrupts the local habitat. This also creates a hazard for the public due to high variance in flow rate and water level of the creek. A new location was selected and the design criteria was created based upon this new location.

Glucocorticoids (GCs) are metabolic hormones that promote catabolic processes, which release stored energy and support high metabolic demands such as during prolonged flights of migrating birds. Dietary antioxidants (e.g. anthocyanins) support metabolism by quenching excess reactive oxygen species produced during aerobic metabolism and also by activating specific metabolic pathways. For example, similar to GCs’ function, anthocyanins promote the release of stored energy, although the extent of complementarity between GCs and dietary antioxidants is not well known. If anthocyanins complement GCs functions, birds consuming anthocyanin-rich food can be expected to limit the secretion of GCs when coping with a metabolically challenging …

Dear Editors:
Topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) is frequently used in dermatology to treat actinic keratoses (AKs) and superficial nonmelanoma skin cancers (Ibbotson et al., 2019). Herein, we present an extremely rare case of herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) after PDT.
The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa
The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa
Law Faculty Publications
By statute, business tax returns are not publicly available. But with public access, investors would acquire useful information that would help them make better investing decisions; business tax compliance and planning would become more uniform, preventing tax-savvy firms from gaining an advantage over other relatively more productive firms; and businesses could learn from one another, which would spare firms the cost of redundantly developing the same tax strategies. In the long run, these efficiency gains could result in lower prices, higher wages, more innovation, more leisure, and better investment returns. In the debate over business tax privacy, these sorts of …
The Lost Lessons Of Shareholder Derivative Suits, Jessica M. Erickson
The Lost Lessons Of Shareholder Derivative Suits, Jessica M. Erickson
Law Faculty Publications
Merger litigation has changed dramatically. Today, nearly every announcement of a significant merger sparks litigation, and these cases look quite different from merger cases in the past. These cases are now filed primarily outside of Delaware, they typically settle without shareholders receiving any financial consideration, and corporate boards now have far more ex ante power to shape these cases. Although these changes are often heralded as unprecedented, they are not. Over the past several decades, derivative suits experienced many of the same changes. This Article explores the similarities between the recent changes in merger litigation and the longer history of …
Filling The Federal District Court Vacancies, Carl Tobias
Filling The Federal District Court Vacancies, Carl Tobias
Law Faculty Publications
"President Donald Trump’s major success has been confirming judges for the thirteen federal appellate courts. The President shattered records by appointing a dozen circuit jurists in his administration’s first year, eighteen judges over the course of 2018, and twenty additional judges throughout his third year. Indeed, by June 2019, the appeals courts experienced four vacancies in 179 judgeships and today, only one position remains empty. This achievement is critical, as these tribunals are the courts of last resort for nearly every appeal, and appellate court opinions articulate greater policy than district court rulings and cover multiple states.
However, that accomplishment …
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Battery, Brandon Reed, Ammon Black
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Battery, Brandon Reed, Ammon Black
Electrical and Computer Engineering
The most pressing issue preventing modern power infrastructure from embracing renewable energy sources is the ability to store power on a large scale.
Many renewable energy sources generate more power during peak generation hours that the power grid can handle. This excess power currently goes to waste.
The purpose of this project is to build an apparatus that stores more energy in a smaller space than conventional chemical batteries. Using electricity to create comprisable hydrogen allows this apparatus to be a clean, reliable and large scale energy storage device.

“What enabled me to take part in the effort to free our daughters and sons to achieve whatever their talents equipped them to accomplish, with no artificial barriers blocking their way?”
—Ruth Bader Ginsburg
On September 18, 2020, we mourned the loss of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whom many considered not just a cultural icon, but a national treasure. Among many other things, Justice Ginsburg became a later-in-life feminist “rock star,” celebrated for her rousing and impassioned dissents, her fearless defense of equality and autonomy rights, her championing of civil rights, and her persistent determination in the face of injustice. …
Predicting Football Match Result Using Fusion-Based Classification Model, Chananyu Pipatchatchawal
Predicting Football Match Result Using Fusion-Based Classification Model, Chananyu Pipatchatchawal
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Over the last decades, various football experts and researchers around the world seek to forecast football match result. Although there are multiple types of prediction models constructed for this purpose, most of them still depends on integrating in-game statistical numbers, such as number of successful passes in one game. This kind of information has huge positive impact on predicting outcome but is not desired as it requires the match to finish first. Thus, this thesis aims to propose more accurate models, which are not relied on in-game numbers. Two forms of fusion-based classification models are proposed in this study, including …
Controlled Release Of Fibroin Repeat-Tagged Proteins From Silk Hydrogel, Jaturong Promsuk
Controlled Release Of Fibroin Repeat-Tagged Proteins From Silk Hydrogel, Jaturong Promsuk
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Protein-based biologic drugs such as growth factors are playing important roles in modern medicine. These proteins can be used to stimulate local tissue repair. Growth factors are often incorporated into a scaffold, such as a hydrogel, and then put into the desired area of the body to achieve therapeutic effects. However, diffusion of these growth factors outside of the designated area or inappropriate release time can have deleterious consequences, such as inducing tumors in other areas of the body or uncontrolled inflammation. Therefore, this project aims to create a model to study diffusion of protein from hydrogel by using green …
Definable Modules Over Definable Rings Without Zero Divisors In O-Minimal Structures, Jaruwat Rodbanjong
Definable Modules Over Definable Rings Without Zero Divisors In O-Minimal Structures, Jaruwat Rodbanjong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In an o-minimal structure, every definable group admits a definable group manifold. Moreover, one can also show an analogue of this statement for definable rings. In this work, we prove that every definable module over definable ring without zero divisors admits a definable module manifold. In addition, we also give the classification of definable modules over definable rings without zero divisors in o-minimal structures

Fabrication And Characterization Of Graphene-Based Heterostructure Using Molybdenum As Alternative Electrodes, Illias Klanurak
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Interlayer coupling in graphene heterostructures can be used to modify their charge transport properties for the use in nanoelectronics applications. To achieve high-performance devices, graphene is typically encapsulated by two thin sheets of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and contacted using Cr/Au as electrodes. In this research, Mo was selected as alternative stand-alone electrodes to simplify the fabrication process. We have developed a recipe for the fabrication of field-effect transistor (FET) using twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG) as a transport channel. Mo was employed to make one-dimensional (1D) contacts to the edges of graphene by sputtering. Electronic transport measurement was then …
Holographic Solutions From N=6, D=4 Gauged Supergravity, Jakkapat Seeyangnok
Holographic Solutions From N=6, D=4 Gauged Supergravity, Jakkapat Seeyangnok
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this thesis, we study holographic solutions of four-dimensional N = 6 gauged supergravity with SO(6) gauge group. The theory admits a unique N = 6 supersymmetric AdS4 vacuum dual to a three-dimensional N = 6 SCFT and gives us a number of supersymmetric domain walls interpolating between this AdS4 vacuum and singular geometries in IR with SO(2) × SO(4), U(3), SO(2) × SO(2) × SO(2), and SO(3) symmetries. These solutions describe RG flows from N = 6 SCFT in UV to non-conformal field theories driven by mass deformations. In particular, the solution with SO(2)×SO(4) symmetry coincides with the known …
Regenerated Amorphous Cellulose From Pineapple Leaf Fibers Via Sulfuric Acid Treatment, Gisma Coraima Asmarani
Regenerated Amorphous Cellulose From Pineapple Leaf Fibers Via Sulfuric Acid Treatment, Gisma Coraima Asmarani
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) is an agricultural residue available abundantly in Thailand as a renewable resource with high cellulose content. In this research, a simple process using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) treatment has been developed to produce three types of cellulosic products from PALF, which are regenerated amorphous (RAC), microcrystalline (MCC), and nanocrystalline (NCC) cellulose. H2SO4 acid treatment has been done in 25% and 50% (v/v) H2SO4 under three different temperatures (-20, 30, and 50 ºC). In 25% (v/v) H2SO4, various MCC lengths (about 29.57 ± 9.99 to 106.40 ± 61.10 μm) were produced from different temperatures. Different temperatures in this …

Electrocoagulation In Two Phase Separation For Manipulation Of Volatile Compound Profiles In Perfumes, Isaya Thaveesangsakulthai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Electrocoagulation (EC) approach employing two aluminium electrodes and a two phase medium of aqueous solution of NaCl and hexane (2-phase-EC) was developed. The approach enabled electrochemical treatment of odor active compounds in perfume extract. The samples before and after 2-phase-EC at cathode, anode and between the two electrodes left for equilibrium after the treatment were analyzed by using solid phase micro extraction (SPME) and gas chromatography hyphenated with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This allowed identification of volatile compounds in each sample based on comparison with MS and retention index database. After the treatment, the perfume smells were fresher, sweeter and more …
