Murder ballads have been a part of the musical traditions of America since the 1700s, when their source materials were brought from Scandinavia, England, and Scotland. Ballads like “Omie Wise,” “Pretty Polly,” and “The Ballad of Tom Dooley” have been recorded by a variety of artists, and still draw new listeners for commercial success. Despite their historic presence in American music, murder ballads are not often included in the school music curriculum. This research used the descriptive method to determine the extent of utilization of Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) in relation to Students’ Academic Performance in the Public Elementary Schools of Bayawan City Division, Negros Oriental for SY 2018-2019. The quantitative data were gathered from 68 teachers’ league presidents and 68 school heads. Also, the researcher conducted a survey questionnaire. Descriptive method was used in this study. The statistical tools used in the analysis of the data were percentage, mean, weighted mean, and spearman rank correlation coefficient. The Hong Kong Heritage Project (HKHP), established by Sir Michael Kadoorie in 2007, is one of the first corporate archives to be founded in Hong Kong. It followed in the footsteps of HSBC’s Asia Pacific Archive which pioneered business archives in the city when opened in 2004. This article explores the stakes of the “cinema d’auteur” in Palestine and intends to analyze the constraints and opportunities that this cinema allows, through two case studies that question the cinematographic creation of Palestinian directors in exile. The first is a feature-length film, Recollection by Kamal Aljafari, a filmmaker from “Palestine of 48” who self-produced his film; the second, Dégradé by Arab and Tarzan Nasser, two directors from Gaza, benefited from an Arab-European co-production. The margins of freedom, creativity, and inventiveness therefore increase globally in Lebanese co-produced cinema. To what extent are these new narrative forms adapted to the destabilized Lebanese geopolitical context? How do documentaries, dramas, and road movies establish a kind of Lebanese identity and memory in these movies, leading to their frequent selection in European and international film festivals?

It explores the position and the significance of films made with Maghrebi funding in Europe, while focusing more specifically on films on the condition of women, and films by women filmmakers. This paper explores two filmic attempts at compensating for the invisibility in which Amazigh people and struggles are kept in Morocco. Both films and filmmakers experimented with shooting and production plans, devices, and film forms that should best convey these realities. With a 50-year interval between the two, both attempts share the ambition to go against the limitations imposed by the “Centre Cinématographique Marocain”, resorting to clandestine shooting and supported by an international network. The trajectories of Lebanese film directors and their work, characterized by a strong international dimension and by their insertion within the art film networks, bear the mark of interactions between local and global visual and memorial norms linked to these trajectories, in a globalized cultural environment. These films, though enriched by this international dimension, may appear to develop their narrative following the demands of international festival audiences, risking that these demands become constraints, and at the risk of possible loss of contact with local audiences.

In this article I look at two closely related examples of A.L. Becker’s work on textual coherence and how they can be used as tools for finding meaning in translation. In the first example I draw on Becker and Oka’s work on deixis in Old Javanese (1974) to elucidate the subtle shifts of spatial and temporal reference in “Sītā’s Letter”, an innovative episode in the Old Javanese Rāmāyaṇa (OJR 11.18- 34). Hot Dog: the Regular Fellow’s Monthly was a satirical magazine published by the Merit Publishing Company in Cleveland, Ohio throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Editor Jack Dinsmore included crudely humorous short stories and poems, images of scantily clad women, and editorials and opinion pieces offering his own commentary on current events. In the case of the December 1921 issue, Dinsmore offers scathing criticism of religious Prohibition supporters, namely Billy Sunday and Reverend John Roach Straton. This paper examines how an opinionated independent publication representative of its anti-Prohibition readership reacted to the Temperance Movement and subsequent outspoken Fundamentalist Christian figureheads.

Background: Trauma and injury contribute to 11% of the all-cause mortality in Afghanistan. The study aimed to explore the perceptions of the healthcare providers (pre and in-hospital), hospital managers and policy makers of the public and private health sectors to identify the challenges in the provision of an effective trauma care in Kabul, Afghanistan.
