Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Plastic products have been an integral part of human lives. However, concerns over plastic pollution have been growing. Thus, alternative practices that allow more sustainable production and consumption pattern are urgently needed. Improving plastic recycling management is one of the solutions to prevent an increase in plastic pollution. This paper aims to uncover the potential of plastic recycling, to define factors that can leverage the expansion of the recycling process, and to evaluate possible measures that can realize such expansion, especially given the limited literature on these topics. Therefore, a four-month study, which involved two months of rigorous primary survey …

Estimates from the ARDL model indicate evidence of a positive and statistically insignificant long-run relationship between foreign direct investment and stock market development in the kingdom …

Towards An Organizationally Sensible Hr Risk Assessment In Academic Libraries: A Case Of A University Library, Chaminda Chiran Jayasundara Dr.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Employees can be a resource of sustained success and a competitive advantage in any orgnisation, reliant on skilled workforce. However, dearth of trained labour force to drive the manpower requirement of local industries has become a long lasting burden in some small counties. These countries do not have adequate professional advancement opportunities for librarians and support staff to become professionals or paraprofessionals due to lack of openings for specialist education in the field of librarianship. Thus, human resource risks in libraries of such countries are comparatively higher. It is therefore needed to identify and assess the severity and impact of …

Surveying The Methodological And Analytical Foundations Of The New Institutional Economics: A Critical Comparison With Neoclassical And (Old) Institutional Economics, Giorgos Meramveliotakis

Economic and Business Review

The purpose of this article is to review the methodological and analytical foundations of the New Institutional Economics by implying a critical comparison with the Neoclassical and (old) Institutional Economics. After a discussion of the fundamental definitions and concepts of the New Institutional Economics, I turn to the critical comparison with other schools of thought. It is shown that the New Institutional Economics does not break fundamentally from the neoclassical economics. To the contrary, it can be fairly argued that the New Institutional Economics is a research program which is developed within and around the dominant neoclassical paradigm. On the …

The experimental study is conducted on a sample with …

Revisiting The Cooperation Matrix For Classifying Cases Of Port Cooperation — Case Study: Northern Adriatic Ports, Kristijan Stamatović, Peter De Langen, Aleš Groznik

Economic and Business Review

The maritime industry has witnessed transformational changes due to the structural developments in the competitive landscape among maritime stakeholders. These trends lead to cooperation between ports, particularly those sharing common hinterland. This paper extends the existing frameworks for analysing cases of port cooperation among adjacent ports by exploring the relevance of the presence or absence of a national border, thus proposing an upgraded version of the matrix for classifying cases of port cooperation. We operationalize our theoretical findings with a case study of the North Adriatic (NAPA) ports. We conduct in-depth, semi-structured expert interviews with relevant port stakeholders in order …

Due to the nature of work-life balance, entrepreneurs cope greater challenges – the boundary between the two areas is heavily blurred in terms of time and responsibility. Understanding the mechanisms of balancing all entrepreneurial roles (at work and in the family) and the factors that influence the success of balancing is crucial for entrepreneurs and all those who think about the entrepreneurial path, as well as for those who form public policies to support and promote entrepreneurship. The main aim of the paper is to investigate the impact of the variables identified in the theoretical verification on satisfaction with work-life …

Economic and Business Review

The paper addresses the problem of identifying stakeholders’ hierarchies in sport clubs and, on the case of basketball clubs, reveals how they reflect on the hierarchies of goals and on actual strategic decisions of observed organizations. The study is based on data obtained in 73 basketball clubs from four countries of South-Eastern Europe. The results show that private sponsors are the most influential stakeholders in top-quality clubs that pursue top-sports achievements and financial results more than the goals aimed at meeting the needs of local communities. The relationship between consumers and brands is an important area of research in marketing. The realisation that consumers form interpersonal–like relationships with brands has changed the course of research in marketing, which has since also focused on the study of consumer–brand relationships. Based on consumers' need for uniqueness and the model of stereotypes from social psychology, our study examines how consumers' need for uniqueness and stereotypical beliefs about typical users of the brand influence their identification with the brand. The results of our study, which focuses on consumers' favourite brands, show that consumers' need for uniqueness and the brand buyer …

Among the 14 countries analyzed, Czech Republic and Estonia, as the other two post-socialist countries, are at the bottom of the country ranking by wealth expressed in the number of average net monthly wages, while Slovenia …

ARIMAX models show that the distinction between the two impacts is clear for the daily number of sessions and for the number of students who were active during the day. Post-Revolutionary State Building Processes Democratization Or Divergent Paths?, Ingi Rashed Dec 2020

Post-Revolutionary State Building Processes Democratization Or Divergent Paths?, Ingi Rashed

Theses and Dissertations

As many scholars argue that revolutionary changes generally leads to autocratization, evidence from recent revolutionary changes in post USSR republics and Eastern Europe demonstrate that divergent regime types emerge thereafter. On the one hand, the case of Poland in the aftermath of the collapse of USSR demonstrates that the first few years after regime removal from power are crucial to the emerging new regime. Additionally, Poland proved that democratization can emerge if various institutional settings take place hand in hand with the existence of certain dynamics that shape decision making processes and society agency. On the other hand, the case of …

First, Indonesia’s FTA diplomacy is dominated by state actors and foreign policy players with little involvement from economic players and non-state actors. The numerous FTAs signed through ASEAN also reinforced this domination …

Such understanding provides AKP with a strategic leverage, both at the domestic and international level, especially within the Muslim world. Reflecting upon Rustow’s democratic transition model and Ibn Khaldun’s classic conceptualisation on ashabiyyah, this article attempts to comprehend how Turkish nationalism is formulated within its relations with Islam as AKP’s political roots. Aside from …

This article finds that El Salvador’s social and political-economy historical dynamics, …

Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). It has been shown to improve quality of life as well as extending life of patients with ESRD as compared to renal replacement therapy (5-year survival rate of 68% after transplant vs 36% dialysis) (Hart A, Smith JM, Skeans MA. OPTN/SRTR 2015 annual data report: kidney. Am J Transplant 2017;17:21-116). Traditionally, patients undergo general endotracheal tube anesthesia for this surgery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, general anesthesia drugs and airway equipment were in short supply. Additionally, airway manipulation was avoided when possible due to concern for virus …
