The Paramountcy Of Trauma Informed Classrooms, Jodi Elaine Carmeli Jan 2020

The Paramountcy Of Trauma Informed Classrooms, Jodi Elaine Carmeli

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Students impacted by trauma make up a substantial portion of the overall population. Yet, schools throughout the United States have failed to adequately meet the needs of trauma-impacted youth and the teachers who support them. As a result, many students who might have otherwise developed academically, socially, and emotionally are dropping out and becoming maladjusted, which has wide-ranging, lasting impacts on society overall. Additional resources and training must be provided to the educational community, especially in areas where trauma is prevalent. Healthcare professionals such as psychologists and therapists have proven to be essential partners who are able to contribute their …

School Leaders’ Response To The Increasing Population Of Culturally And Linguistically Diverse Learners, Nia Hulse

Theses and Dissertations

While schools become more representative of a growing minority population, school leaders are responsible for making school policies reflective of the increasing number of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) learners. The purpose of this study was to examine the practices employed by school leaders in growing CLD schools to determine to what extent they employed culturally responsive school leadership practices. The methodology for this study was a multiple case study design. Through this qualitative approach, data triangulation was achieved by conducting interviews, a questionnaire, and collecting artifacts. In addition, purposeful sampling was used to obtain a school leader from an …

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

Excerpt

Chicago Semester is an experiential education program that was founded 45 years ago by six private, faith-based colleges in the Midwest. During the spring semester of 2020, we were serving 56 traditional-aged undergraduate students. These students came from 16 different colleges with student bodies between 1000-4000 students, mainly located in rural or suburban communities. On March 13, 2020, we made the decision to conclude our in-person programming because of COVID-19. Students moved home and the program continued remotely for the duration of the semester.

Therapeutic Autoethnography: From Epiphany To Catharsis, Kelsey Railsback

Department of Family Therapy Dissertations and Applied Clinical Projects

A large percentage of the U.S. population has been directly or indirectly affected by sexual violence. The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (2020b) reported 433,648 victims annually, and Dillinger (2018) reported 747,408 registered sex offenders living in the United States. As a victim-survivor of sexual violence, I have a unique narrative in that I chose to work therapeutically with sexual offenders. Reactions from my family, friends, and colleagues have varied from surprise to alarm, but I hope this dissertation inspires readers to take a second look. Readers who are mental health professionals may consequently be motivated to work with …

City Of Boise Peer Cities Selection 2020, Benjamin Larsen, Mcallister Hall, Lantz Mcginnis-Brown, Mackenzie Moss, Vanessa Crossgrove Fry

Idaho Policy Institute Reports

In collaboration with the City of Boise (City), the Idaho Policy Institute (IPI) used an objective, statistical approach to determine a set of peer cities for use across City departments. This analysis uses a set of population and demographic variables to identify a group of cities that closely match Boise’s demographic profile. This peer city selection process will help City departments standardize their research about peer cities and apply lessons learned from these cities into policy and operational decisions throughout City government. IPI’s next steps in the peer cities analysis include creating an online dashboard with profiles of each peer …
