Is There A Relationship Between Experiences Of Workplace Discrimination And Self-Stigmatization Among Mental Health Peer Support Workers?, Nicole King

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This thesis aimed to explore whether a statistically significant relationship existed between experiences of workplace discrimination and self-stigmatization among mental health peer support workers. This relationship has not previously been explored in this group. The Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (ISMI) was used to measure self-stigmatization, and a 3-measure scale adapted by Stromwall, Holley and Bashor (2011), alongside a newly created measure, were used to assess perceived workplace discrimination. The sample was a convenience sample of 20 participants. The researcher expected a positive correlation between workplace discrimination and self-stigmatization. Ultimately, no statistically significant relationship was found between the two …

The Role Of Foreignness In The Relationship Between Disruptive Innovation And Mne Performance, Chuandi Jiang, Xing Zhao May 2020

The Role Of Foreignness In The Relationship Between Disruptive Innovation And Mne Performance, Chuandi Jiang, Xing Zhao

American Business Review

The innovation-performance literature has failed to make a distinction between the effects of incremental and disruptive innovation on multinational enterprise (MNE) performance. The understanding of the role of foreignness has overemphasized the negative side. From the institutional anomie theory perspective, this study investigates how foreignness, which consists of national culture, industrial competition, and innovative national capacity, affects the relationship between disruptive innovation and MNE performance. We illustrate the distinctiveness between incremental and disruptive innovation and then build a conceptual model to show the moderating role of foreignness on the innovation-performance link. The model suggests that foreignness provides contextual conditions under …

Thoughts And Opinions On Police Intervention On Domestic Violence, Magdalene Thebaud May 2020

Thoughts And Opinions On Police Intervention On Domestic Violence, Magdalene Thebaud

University Honors Program Senior Projects

Historically, the criminal justice system was highly criticized for dismissing the intimate violence reports. Many lawsuits were filed against the police for not responding to victim’s police reports. It is important to consider the victim’s opinions on intimate partner violence interventions when deciding what it effective or not. Policy research should implement more victim focused resources and laws that would allow victims to safely leave abusive relationships. Being mindful of the evidence this study should encourage policy makers to consider the police intervention of intimate partner violence. There is a need to optimize the fit between psychosocial interventions with known efficacy and the demands of real-word service delivery settings. A total of 109 youth (Mage = 9.72; 68% girls; 54% Latinx) at risk based on high anxiety were randomized to the streamlined prevention and early intervention (SPEI) (n = 59) or control (n …

The Impact Of Severe Mental Health On Peers In Supporting Roles: A Look At Secondary Trauma And College Students, Courtney Tripp-Stuck May 2020

The Impact Of Severe Mental Health On Peers In Supporting Roles: A Look At Secondary Trauma And College Students, Courtney Tripp-Stuck

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Evidence indicates directors of college counseling centers and those in student affairs roles have observed a steep increase in the number of severe mental health crises on their campuses, thereby also impacting student leaders and those in helping roles as counseling centers try to adapt to the influx of need (Kitzrow, 2003; CAS, 1999). Additionally, there is evidence to support students are more likely to turn to peers first when experiencing mental health crises than they are to seek out professional help (Drum, Brownson, Burton-Denmark, Smith, & Roberts, 2009; Gallagher, 2013). The goal of this study is to examine whether …

Nursing Student Experience And Safety Awareness Using 360-Degree Immersive Video Simulation, John Arthur Nation

Dissertations

As the use of simulation in pre-licensure nursing education increases, it is important to evaluate new approaches to clinical simulation. A new technology called 360-degree immersive video has the potential to be used in nursing education but its use in nursing education has not been studied extensively. This study evaluated nursing student satisfaction and identification of risks to patient safety with 360-degree immersive video simulation when compared to conventional video simulation. In this quasi-experimental quantitative study, 91 final semester nursing students viewed either a 360-degree immersive video simulation depicting multiple risks to patient safety or a conventional video of the …
