The Relationship Between Customer Relationship Management, Employee Retention, And Revenue, Bui Thanh Van Jan 2020

The Relationship Between Customer Relationship Management, Employee Retention, And Revenue, Bui Thanh Van

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Downsizing campaigns and employee layoffs can result in poor customer service leading to service revenue losses. Understanding lost service revenue predictors is critical for leaders and managers to maintain and increase organizational growth and financial performance. Grounded in the service-profit chain theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between customer relationship management (CRM), employee retention, and service revenue. Data were analyzed for 80 leaders and managers working in Vietnam’s industrial service field. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicated the full model, containing the 2 predictor variables (CRM and employee retention), was able …

A Systematic Review Of Culturally Sensitive Strategies To Address Obesity Among Hispanic-American Pediatric Patients In The Primary Care Setting, Rachel Vurbeff

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Obesity significantly increases morbidity and mortality, and its incidence amongHispanic-American children and adolescents exceeds that of any other ethnic group in the United States. Without proper intervention, these children and adolescents will experience the burden of costly comorbidities across the lifespan. Guided by Leininger’s theory of culture care diversity and universality, the purpose of this project was to identify evidence-based, culturally sensitive strategies to prevent and treat obesity among Hispanic-American pediatric patients in the primary care setting through a systematic review of the literature utilizing the Joanna Briggs Institute method. The practice-focused question that guided this review focused on finding …

Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Campus Climate Before And After A Consolidation, Stephanie Denise Watson Jan 2020

Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Campus Climate Before And After A Consolidation, Stephanie Denise Watson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Consolidations have become a market strategy for both public and private higher education institutions as a way of rebranding to address financial challenges and to remain competitive. Challenges arise when faculty and staff members are expected to merge the racial climates of a non-historically black college and university (NHBCU) and a historically black college and university (HBCU). The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of issues related to inclusion, campus interactions, and diverse campus groups following the consolidation. The racial campus climate framework by Hurtado, Milem, Clayton-Pedersen, and Allen served as the conceptual framework for this …

Effectiveness Of Response To Intervention In Third Grade Reading Outcomes, Amanda Wentz Jan 2020

Effectiveness Of Response To Intervention In Third Grade Reading Outcomes, Amanda Wentz

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Reading continues to be a struggle for many students beyond primary ages. Response to Intervention (RTI) is a common approach in practice to improve reading outcomes, but it has not been researched with all populations. Studies on 3rd grade struggling readers are needed to ensure they receive appropriate support to become more successful readers. The theoretical foundations for this quantitative study included Vygotsky’s social constructivist theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The research questions examined whether participating in RTI had a significant influence on 3rd grade students’ reading outcomes from the beginning compared to the end of the school year. …

Attitudes Towards Intellectually Disabled Sex Offenders Regarding Treatment Efficacy, Responsibility, And Dangerousness, Allison Elizabeth Westphal Jan 2020

Attitudes Towards Intellectually Disabled Sex Offenders Regarding Treatment Efficacy, Responsibility, And Dangerousness, Allison Elizabeth Westphal

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Intellectually disabled sex offenders (IDSOs) is a unique group of individuals who experience efforts that simultaneously attempt to integrate them into the community due to their intellectual disability (ID) diagnosis and are shunned due to their label as a sex offender. The present study contributed to the current literature by exploring the public attitudes towards IDSOs regarding dangerousness, criminal responsibility, and treatment efficacy. Using the lens of attribution theory, qualitative methods were used to explore these ideas through phenomenological design. Eight participants were interviewed, and data analyzed through coding and themes. Five themes were identified to include (a) dangerousness; (b) …

Using Human Capital Development To Reduce Healthcare Administrative Costs, Pamela J. Wyatt-Elkins

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Some healthcare leaders are unable to address complex billing and insurance activities, which results in increased administrative costs and a significant reduction in revenue. Grounded in the theory of human capital development, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore training and development strategies used by health care leaders to address complex billing and insurance requirements. The participants included 5 leaders from different areas of the revenue cycle in one healthcare organization in Michigan, who successfully implemented strategies to reduce administrative costs. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a review of organizational documentation. Thematic analysis using …

The Influence Of Ethnicity On The Impact Of Cyberbullying Among Adults, Sarah Young Jan 2020

The Influence Of Ethnicity On The Impact Of Cyberbullying Among Adults, Sarah Young

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ethnicity is a factor that predicts how a person is impacted by cyberbullying, but to date little research has been conducted to investigate this phenomenon. Some researchers have reported that individuals belonging to ethnic minorities may have a greater overall resistance to bullying behavior and bias due to stress inoculation. The purpose of this study was to determine if ethnic minority status serves as a protective factor against the negative impact of cyberbullying in adults. This research study was guided by inoculation and socio-ecological systems theories. A convenience sample of 618 American adults who use social media at least 3 …

Adults' Use Of Mobile Learning Environments While Enrolled In General Educational Development Classes, Tia Wilkinson Jan 2020

Adults' Use Of Mobile Learning Environments While Enrolled In General Educational Development Classes, Tia Wilkinson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Mobile learning environments (MLEs) offer ubiquitous learning opportunities for adults in General Educational Development (GED) programs. However, MLEs have not been integrated into most adult GED programs; therefore, little is known about the experiences of adult learners who use MLEs as part of their education. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore how adult learners described making connections within MLEs, how they perceived learning with MLEs, and how they expanded their use of MLEs. The principles of connectivism provided the conceptual framework for the study. Participants were 11 adult learners in GED programs in a Southern urban …

Out To Save The World: The Intersection Of Animal Welfare Law, Environmental Law, And Respect For Fragile Ecosystems, Stacey L. Gordon Jan 2020

Out To Save The World: The Intersection Of Animal Welfare Law, Environmental Law, And Respect For Fragile Ecosystems, Stacey L. Gordon

Faculty Law Review Articles

Of all the living things on earth, humans have the unique ability to destroy all life. Paradoxically, even though our lives will ultimately be destroyed too, we also seem to have the inability to stop the destruction, or at least alack of will to stop it. As the daily litany of new destructions2 piles up and both the pace and the quantity increase, each loss is buried in the pile beneath humanity’s other problems. When humans start prioritizing, the living environment—both flora and fauna—is often neglected, and sometimes purposely harmed.3 Even nonliving elements of nature are harmed. In …

Creative Destruction: Copyright's Fair Use Doctrine And The Moral Right Of Integrity, Cathay Y. N. Smith Jan 2020

Creative Destruction: Copyright's Fair Use Doctrine And The Moral Right Of Integrity, Cathay Y. N. Smith

Faculty Law Review Articles

This Paper explores the role of copyright’s fair use doctrine as a limit on the moral right of integrity. The moral right of integrity gives an author the right to prevent any distortion, modification, or mutilation of their work that prejudices their honor or reputation. Actions that have been found to violate an author’s moral right of integrity include, for instance, altering a mural by painting clothing over nude figures, selling separated panels of a single work of art, and displaying sculptures with holiday ribbons. At the same time, copyright’s fair use doctrine allows follow-on creators to transform original works …

Beyond The Belloni Decision: Sohappy V.Smith And The Modern Era Of Tribal Treaty Rights, Monte Mills Jan 2020

Beyond The Belloni Decision: Sohappy V.Smith And The Modern Era Of Tribal Treaty Rights, Monte Mills

Faculty Law Review Articles

Indian tribes and their members are leading a revived political, legal, and social movement to protect the nation’s natural resources. In doing so, tribes and their allies employ many effective strategies but core to the movement are the historic promises made to tribes by the United States through treaties. Tribes are asserting treaty protected rights, which the United States Constitution upholds as the supreme law of the land, to defend the resources on which they and their ancestors have relied for generations. Those claims have resulted in significant legal victories, igniting a broader movement in favor of tribal sovereignty and …

Moms In Prison: The Impact Of Maternal Incarceration On Women And Children, Katy B. Stack

Faculty Law Review Articles

This article examines the impact of maternal incarceration on women and children in a case-study format. Their children then provide their perspective on visiting their mothers in prison and how their mother's incarceration impacted their lives. Statistics are discussed regarding the impacts of maternal incarceration in the United States and Canada. Finally, suggestions are provided for ways to lessen the impact of maternal incarceration on children and more effectively support …

Nurses’ Social Distancing Behaviors Toward Patients With Borderline Personality Disorder, Nicole York Jan 2020

Nurses’ Social Distancing Behaviors Toward Patients With Borderline Personality Disorder, Nicole York

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Nurses often fear interacting with patients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and use self-preservation distancing strategies that can exacerbate the BPD patient’s fear of abandonment, paranoia, self-harm, and relational conflict. Prior research identified individual predictors of nurses’ social distancing. This study used multivariable and multivariate correlational profiles of fear of violence and BPD bias that influence distance, reassessing, and constructive coping. Guided by social cognitive and appraisal transaction theories, data were collected from 113 nurses in a northwestern U.S. state on measures of interpersonal stress coping, attitudinal dispositions, perceived prevention of violence, perceived likelihood of future violence, and perceived …

#Metoo Backlash Or Simply Common Sense?: It's Complicated, Ann C. Mcginley Jan 2020

#Metoo Backlash Or Simply Common Sense?: It's Complicated, Ann C. Mcginley

Scholarly Works

This Essay focuses on the skittishness that men express about being accused of sexual harassment. Part II explains the prevalence of sexual harassment and the response to this problem, giving both empirical and anecdotal evidence of male professionals' refusals to spend time with female subordinates. Part III discusses the already-present inequalities in the legal profession, particularly in law firms and raises concerns about how lack of mentoring and sponsorship of women by male supervisors could create an even greater disparity. Part IV analyzes the disparate legal, business, and cultural definitions of sexual harassment, and given the disparities in understandings, raises …

The Dangers Of Disclosure: How Hiv Laws Harm Domestic Violence Survivors, Courtney Cross Jan 2020

The Dangers Of Disclosure: How Hiv Laws Harm Domestic Violence Survivors, Courtney Cross

Scholarly Works

People living with HIV or AIDS must decide whether, how, and when to disclose their positive status. State laws play an outsized role in this highly personal calculus. Partner notification laws require that current and former sexual partners of individuals newly diagnosed with HIV be informed of their potential exposure to the disease. Meanwhile, people who fail to disclose their positive status prior to engaging in sexual acts-even acts that carry low to no risk of infection-can be prosecuted and incarcerated for exposing their partners to HIV. Although both partner notification laws and criminal HIV exposure laws were ostensibly created …

“Toughen Up, Buttercup” Versus #Timesup: Initial Findings Of The Aba Women In Criminal Justice Task Force, Maryam Ahranjani

Scholarly Works

"Practicing criminal law as a woman is like playing tackle football in a dress." Andrea George, Executive Director of the Federal Public Defender for Eastern Washington and Idaho, began her testimony to the American Bar Association's Women in Criminal Justice Task Force with that powerful observation. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, the ABA has focused on ways to enhance gender equity in the profession and in the justice system. The Criminal Justice Section of the ABA has invested significant resources in the creation of the Women in Criminal Justice Task Force (WCJ TF), which launched its work in …

Challenges In Quality Care Delivery In Tertiary Health Facilities In North-Central Nigeria, Thomas Terlumun Torkula

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increasing mortality rates in tertiary healthcare hospitals in developing countries, such as Nigeria, have given growing concerns about the quality of healthcare services delivered in these hospitals. The purpose of this study was to examine the challenges of quality healthcare delivery in tertiary healthcare hospitals in North Central Nigeria, using a quantitative method. A total of 255 respondents, comprising medical, paramedical staff, and patients, from 3 tertiary hospitals were included in the study. The Healthcare Quality Assessment Questionnaire was used to collect data. Chi-square and analysis of variance were used to test the hypotheses. Results of the study showed …

Catholic And Evangelical Religious-Political Narratives About The Contraceptive Coverage Requirement Policy, Leah Marie Silverman Jan 2020

Catholic And Evangelical Religious-Political Narratives About The Contraceptive Coverage Requirement Policy, Leah Marie Silverman

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The intersection of religion and politics results in “wicked” policy problems for which evidence-based solutions are hard to find. An example is the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive coverage requirement (CCR). Evidence suggests that women and society benefit from increased access to contraceptives, but religious freedom objections have been effective in litigation to limit the CCR's reach. The purpose of this study was to explore the narrative elements and strategies used by Catholic and Evangelical stakeholders regarding the CCR, contraceptives, and religious freedom. Social constructionism and the narrative policy framework (NPF) provided the foundation for the study. Data collection included legal …
