Saudi Efl Learners Knowledge And Use Of English Prepositional Verbs In Academic Writing, Hatim Abdulhadi Masoudi
Saudi Efl Learners Knowledge And Use Of English Prepositional Verbs In Academic Writing, Hatim Abdulhadi Masoudi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Prepositional verbs are essential for English as a foreign language (EFL) and English as a second language (ESL) learners in academic writing. However, most learners, regardless of their proficiency, encounter difficulties using these verbs, and there is a lack of research on these difficulties. This study sought to describe, analyze, and understand Saudi EFL learners knowledge and use of English prepositional verbs in academic writing. The study also assesses the relevant teaching contexts and reasons behind common errors. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach with data collected from a cloze test, multiple-choice test, and semi-structured interview. The two tests were administered …
Counselor Trainee Empathy, Exposure And Attitudes Towards Offenders With Mental Illness, Frances I. Ellmo
Counselor Trainee Empathy, Exposure And Attitudes Towards Offenders With Mental Illness, Frances I. Ellmo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
There is a large and growing population of individuals within the United States Criminal Justice system suffering from both diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health issues. The stigma associated with their offender status and mental illness can prevent sufficient quality of mental health services from being provided to this population. Even individuals that work closely with offenders have been shown to exhibit negative perceptions of offenders with mental illness and little research exists in this area related to counselors. Further, the offender population is one that requires specialized training and consideration and it is unclear how much training or exposure counselors …
Direct Metal Laser Sintering Of Ti-6al-4v Alloy: Process-Property-Geometry Empirical Modeling And Optimization, Behzad Fotovvati
Direct Metal Laser Sintering Of Ti-6al-4v Alloy: Process-Property-Geometry Empirical Modeling And Optimization, Behzad Fotovvati
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) is a widely used powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing (AM) technology that offers extensive capabilities to fabricate complex metallic components. In the DMLS process, part fabrication involves small moving melt-pools formed by the interaction of laser beam and metal powders. The formation of a melt-pool and subsequently its rapid solidification results in alteration of properties and microstructure of the product. Therefore, understanding and predicting relationships between DMLS process parameters and melt-pool characteristics is critical to control and improve the properties of parts. The melt-pool formation in this process is very similar to what occurs …

Using Critical Discourse Analysis and computational linguistics in the present study, I investigated the discursive representations of gender in two series of English Language Development textbooks in the largest markets in the USA Texas and California. In addition, I examined the pictorial gender representations within images of these two series adhering to Critical Image Analysis. I also engaged in previously unnavigated realms of learning material study by examining the linguistic and pictorial gendering of non-human characters as well as examining types and tokens of gendered language. I also investigated the roles genre played in gendered messaging in both series. Finally, …
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study On Persistence In Online Mindfulness Programs, Sheila Seiler
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study On Persistence In Online Mindfulness Programs, Sheila Seiler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The purpose of this research is to uncover the essence of the lived experiences of nontraditional learners who persist in online mindfulness programs. While there are quantitative studies and meta-analyses of what makes online mindfulness programs effective, there has not been an investigation and analysis of the experiences participants have in the programs that result in their persistence. Therefore, this transcendental phenomenological study examined the factors that encourage people to persevere and remain in online mindfulness programs. Ten nontraditional learners were recruited through convenience and snowball sampling, then purposeful sampling. Data were collected using a survey, open-ended interviews with participants, …
How Social Norms Moderate The Association Between Gender Role Conflict And Grief Cognitions, Whitney Shuman
How Social Norms Moderate The Association Between Gender Role Conflict And Grief Cognitions, Whitney Shuman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
College students experience a myriad of both death-related and non-death losses throughout their academic careers, which may impact their academic and psychological well-being. Male gender role conflict (GRC) related to restrictive emotionality and restrictive affectionate behavior between men is associated with multiple negative psychological outcomes and may be associated with difficulties related to the grieving process, as grief is typically closely linked with affective experiences related to the loss. The current study specifically examined maladaptive grief cognitions, which are beliefs about ones grief experiences that lead to increased psychological distress and decreased adjustment to the loss. Additionally, descriptive and injunctive …

Epigenetic Regulation Of Rel Expression By Map3k4, Cbp, And Hdac6 During Phenotypic Switching, Noha Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Shendy
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Phenotypic switching occurs during normal development, and these processes are reactivated in several disease states. We have previously demonstrated the critical role of the MAP3K4 regulated chromatin modifiers CBP and HDAC6 in controlling this switching in trophoblast stem (TS) cells. We hypothesized that genes co-regulated by CBP and HDAC6 represent critical regulators of phenotypic switching. Bioinformatic analyses identify 183 co-regulated genes of which 12% are DNA binding proteins. The highest-ranking gene is the NF-B family member Rel. Both CBP and HDAC6 bind the regulatory regions of Rel, controlling histone H2BK5 and H3K27 acetylation on both promoter and predicted enhancer regions. …

How Propaganda Became Public Relations: Foucault And The Corporate Government Of The Public, Cory Wimberly
How Propaganda Became Public Relations: Foucault And The Corporate Government Of The Public, Cory Wimberly
Philosophy Faculty Publications
How Propaganda Became Public Relations pulls back the curtain on propaganda: how it was born, how it works, and how it has masked the bulk of its operations by rebranding itself as public relations. Cory Wimberly uses archival materials and wide variety of sources — Foucault’s work on governmentality, political economy, liberalism, mass psychology, and history — to mount a genealogical challenge to two commonplaces about propaganda. First, modern propaganda did not originate in the state and was never primarily located in the state; instead, it began and flourished as a for-profit service for businesses. Further, propaganda is not focused …

Silk Fibroin/Gelatin Microcarriers As Scaffolds For Bone Tissue Engineering, Ka Luetchford, Jb Chaudhuri, Pa De Bank
School of Biomedical Sciences
Microcarrier cell scaffolds have potential as injectable cell delivery vehicles or as building blocks for tissue engineering. The use of small cell carriers allows for a 'bottom up' approach to tissue assembly when moulding microparticles into larger structures, which can facilitate the introduction of hierarchy by layering different matrices and cell types, while evenly distributing cells through the structure. In this work, silk fibroin (SF), purified from Bombyx mori cocoons, was blended with gelatin (G) to produce materials composed of varying ratios of the two components (SF: G 25:75, 50:50, and 75:25). Cell compatibility to these materials was first confirmed …

Uses And Gratifications Of Generation Z Within Social Networks: A Dialectical Investigation Into The Facebook Domain, Ryan O'Carroll, Tara Rooney
Articles
To date, little research has considered how various types of gratifications operate within SNSs such as Facebook (LaRose et al. 2001; Quan-Haase and Young, 2010; Wang, 2015). To address this gap, we explore Generation Z’s motivational behaviour through the lens of Uses and Gratifications Theory. Additionally, we investigate the types of gratification obtained by Generation Z through Facebook. The research adopted an interpretivist philosophy and employed a qualitative approach. The data collection method used semi-structured interviews, in conjunction with qualitative digital diary research. Research participants were requested to record emotions, behaviours and opinions in their digital diaries over a consecutive …

Emulsion Stability Of Heavy Oil With Surfactants And Nanoparticles, Zainab Abdulmohsein, Baojun Bai, Parthasakha Neogi
Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The recovered crude oil is often in form of an emulsion and the recovery is cut off when water to oil ratio exceeds a certain amount. The emulsions vary from water-in-oil to oil-in-water and the step that follows is to coalesce droplets to get two continuous liquids. Difficulties arise when the oil contains emulsifiers. There are naturally occurring surfactants, or the oil recovered is by enhanced oil recovery techniques which have additives that stabilize the droplets. We have considered below a heavy oil (viscosity 650-750 mPa.s) containing one of the three surfactants: a nonionic surfactant or a cationic surfactant or …

“You Crossed My Mind … Before?”: An Intertextual Analysis Of Songs From 'To Pimp A Butterfly', Colin Outhwaite
Theses : Honours
Popular music often refers to, evokes and includes elements of other music from the past. This kind of intertextuality in popular music provides artists and audiences with short-cuts to making and interpreting meaning. It draws on nostalgia, past listening experiences and idealised perceptions of the past. Artists engaging in this practice risk criticism for being too derivative. Conversely, artists who are too innovative and forward-looking run the risk of not connecting to listeners. Kendrick Lamar’s hip-hop album of 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly is lauded as being simultaneously innovative and steeped in the recent history of African American music. Lamar …
The Viability Of Simulated Large-Scale Marking As Professional Development For Preservice Teachers, Nathanael Reinertsen
The Viability Of Simulated Large-Scale Marking As Professional Development For Preservice Teachers, Nathanael Reinertsen
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Judging the quality of student work is a core skill of a proficient teacher. This professional competency is often utilised by organisations that run large-scale marking operations when they recruit teachers as markers. These organisations and the teachers themselves often claim that large-scale marking is valuable professional development.
This research aimed to determine whether professional learning outcomes similar to those reported by experienced teachers can be achieved for preservice teachers through participation in a live simulation of a large-scale marking operation. The research was conducted in three phases: an online survey of Australian teachers to establish that reports of benefit …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Estimates of organic carbon (Corg) storage by seagrass meadows which consider inter-habitat variability are essential to understand their potential to sequester carbon dioxide (CO2) and derive robust global and regional estimates of blue carbon storage. In this study, we provide baseline estimates of seagrass extent, and soil Corg stocks and accumulation rates from different seagrass habitats at Rottnest Island (in Amphibolis spp., Posidonia spp., Halophila ovalis, and mixed Posidonia/Amphibolis spp. meadows). The Corg stocks in 0.5 m thick seagrass soil deposits, derived from 24 cores, were 5.1 ± 0.7 kg Corg m–2 …
