Development Of An Experiential Leadership Curriculum Using The Absorb, Do, Connect Model, Sarah Norris
Education Projects
Numerous leadership development programs exist in both the educational and workforce sectors. However, many organizations, specifically nonprofit and governmental agencies, do not have access to hands-on leadership development curriculum that fits their needs. Often, they either send new leadership staff to off-site “leadership training” that does not provide a transfer of learning aspect to be practiced and applied on site,or they create “make-shift” leadership training sessions that do not show validated improvements. The purpose of this project was to develop and betatest anexperiential learning curriculum for emerging leaders using the Absorb, Do, Connect model (Horton, 2012). The curriculum is generic …

Faculty & Staff Scholarship
As galleries, archives and museums navigate their way into the future with new ways of interaction and display, libraries, too, seek innovative ways to engage and evolve learning. As library content becomes increasingly digital and learning becomes more social, exhibitions can provide new ways of engaging the user’s intellect and creativity. Exhibitions also encourage an environment of contemplation that library users seek. Libraries are evolving into a new sort of space--still a space for research, learning and study--but also for community engagement and collaboration, presenting a unique opportunity for both collaborating exhibitors and guests. Ideas are protected and encouraged in …

Gender-Sensitive And Gender-Effective Strategies In Preventing And Countering Violent Extremism, University Of Chicago Law School - Global Human Rights Clinic, Mandel Legal Aid Clinic
Global Human Rights Clinic
For over two decades, the global community has endeavored to prevent and combat violent extremism. In that time, states and civil society partners have increasingly recognized women’s role in this effort as critical to its success. The effective engagement of women, representing half of the world’s population, is now understood as necessary to a “localized, credible, inclusive, and resonant strateg[y] to build resilience to extremism.”
However, gender-sensitive and gender-effective approaches to preventing and countering violent extremism (PCVE) have remained elusive. Women’s involvement in PCVE strategies continue to be largely marginal, often reinforcing harmful stereotypes, and sometimes resulting in negative consequences …
