Change Theory And Perceptions Of Innovation From Educators Within K-12 Schools In The State Of North Dakota, Ryan P. Lyson
Change Theory And Perceptions Of Innovation From Educators Within K-12 Schools In The State Of North Dakota, Ryan P. Lyson
Theses and Dissertations
Throughout the years, policies and mandates have influenced education and forced many school districts, administrators, and teachers to change instructional practices, content, and the overall structure of the school day. Accountability is a common theme in education because many school leaders and districts are trying to work within the parameters given by the State of North Dakota in order to meet the requirements for the state standards which are founded on common core, accreditation visits, state-mandated assessments, and teacher-evaluation components. Innovation is a compelling topic in education; however, there has not been much research that focuses on North Dakota

Effects Of Intrapartum Nitrous Oxide Use On Comfort And Satisfaction With The Birth Experience, Tami Such
Effects Of Intrapartum Nitrous Oxide Use On Comfort And Satisfaction With The Birth Experience, Tami Such
Theses and Dissertations
Background/Purpose: Increased availability of intrapartum nitrous oxide in the United States given recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of associated delivery devices has provided women an alternative intrapartum pain management strategy currently underutilized in the United States despite long standing history of effectiveness in other countries (Richardson et al., 2017b). However, the effect of pain on the experience of birth and present emphasis on patient-centered care and shared decision-making, potential improvement of women’s satisfaction with the birth experience when nitrous oxide is used was an understudied concept in extant literature. Also, given the possibility of pain and comfort as …

How Athletic Trainers Use Goal Setting With Injured Athletes, Jenna Wing
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the present study was to identify if current Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) understand the importance of consistent use of sport psychology, specifically goal setting, in the athletic training room with injured athletes. Participants (n = 77) were current ATCs who have been certified by the Board of Certification (BOC), who had proper licensure in their designated districts, and were members of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). A questionnaire was created to assess the frequency with which they used goal setting, how important and effective they feel goal setting is, and how prepared they feel to use …
Narrative Transportation Effects In Relationship With Empathy, Compassion For Students, And Self-Compassion In Student Affairs Professionals, Miriam Margarita Wood Alameda
Narrative Transportation Effects In Relationship With Empathy, Compassion For Students, And Self-Compassion In Student Affairs Professionals, Miriam Margarita Wood Alameda
Theses and Dissertations
Prior studies found that audiences can become more empathic and form a positive view of a character as a result of Narrative Transportation (NT). Thus, the purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the effects of NT on Student Affairs (SA) professionals. 78 SA professionals were randomly assigned to one of two narrative groups (text or video). The results of this study indicated that participants in the video group show greater transportation than those in the text group. Furthermore, SA professionals showed that being familiar with the student experience was more important than sharing an identity with the student …
Transitions In Tumultuous Times: Teachers’ Experiences With Distance Learning Amidst The Covid-19 Pandemic, Lisa Ross-Hain
Transitions In Tumultuous Times: Teachers’ Experiences With Distance Learning Amidst The Covid-19 Pandemic, Lisa Ross-Hain
Theses and Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020 prompted the first nationwide extended educational disruption, resulting in many challenges for teachers as they were forced to a distance teaching and learning model. Educators modified curricular content, delivery, and assessment methods to accommodate and engage learners and maintain academic expectations while at the same time attempting to mitigate undue stress for their students. Teachers met this task with little to no adaptive expertise to draw from, as few had previous experience with distance teaching. Constructivist theory guided this qualitative study exploring teachers’ experiences in distance learning through a lens of adaptive …
Montana Coaches' Perceptions On Including Transgender Athletes In High School Interscholastic Sports And Its Effect On Team Chemistry, David L. Woods Ii
Montana Coaches' Perceptions On Including Transgender Athletes In High School Interscholastic Sports And Its Effect On Team Chemistry, David L. Woods Ii
Theses and Dissertations
The eligibility of transgender students to participate in high school athletic sports is a polarizing topic in the United States of America. Questions of fairness within each competitive sport, along with precedents set in law and policy, both by the United States and by International Sporting Organizations such as the International Olympic Committee, shape arguments for or against transgender high school students' eligibility. Each state faces the decision of whether to base high school transgender athletes' eligibility in high school sports according to their gender identity, or their sex assigned at birth.
The study aimed to identify Montana high school …

Method Lawyering: Immersion Teaching Illustrated, Kris Franklin
Articles & Chapters
Immersive law teaching uses simulated client experiences to drive the learning of legal doctrine, while enriching comprehension and mastery by integrating of a range of lawyering competencies. In an effort to “show, don’t tell,” this Article provides an immersive introduction to immersive teaching though the lens of a family law course. A series of vignettes illustrate student work in the class. The vignettes become jumping off points for more specific discussion of the nuts and bolts of teaching and learning the law in the course, and for broader consideration of possibilities for immersive learning in legal education.

You That Build The Death Planes: Bob Dylan, War And International Affairs, Michael L. Perlin
Articles & Chapters
Several years ago, I wrote that Bob Dylan was “a scholar with a well-developed jurisprudence on a range of topics including civil, criminal, public, and private law” (Perlin, 2011, p.1396). In that article, I discussed and analyzed Dylan songs that dealt with, variously, civil rights, inequality in the criminal and civil justice systems, institutions, governmental/judicial corruption, equality and emancipation, and the role of lawyers in the legal process. (Id.). But I noted that I was omitting – for space considerations – any discussion of Dylan songs dealing with war and international affairs (Id., p. 1398, n. 15).

The United States' affordable care crisis and chronic physician shortage have required advanced practice registered nurses "APRNs" and physician assistants "PAs" to assume increasingly important roles in the healthcare system The increased use of these nonphysician providers has improved access to healthcare and lowered the price of care However restrictive occupational licensing laws"”specifically scopeofpractice laws"”have limited their ability to care for patients While these laws by themselves have important implications for the healthcare system they also interact with other legal regimes to impact the provision of care Restrictive scopeofpractice laws can increase the malpractice liability risk of physicians and decrease …

Insuring Apologies, Benjamin J. Mcmichael

Based on evidence demonstrating that an apology from a wrongdoer to a victim can assuage the victim's anger, reduce the likelihood that the victim seeks legal redress, and facilitate settlement, state legislatures have passed apology laws to encourage the delivery of more apologies. Aimed primarily at medical malpractice litigation-a traditional locus of the tort reform effort-apology laws render apologies from physicians to patients inadmissible in subsequent legal proceedings. In theory, privileging apologies will encourage their use and reduce malpractice liability risk as patients assert fewer claims and settle those claims that are asserted. However, if apology laws encourage the delivery …

This brief essay suggests that suddenly popular online meeting platforms like Zoom can be used to execute wills while people are subject to shelterin-place orders following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although will execution ceremonies using Zoom do not strictly comply with statutory formalities, Zoom-based ceremonies satisfy the two primary curative doctrines-the substantial compliance doctrine and the UPC's harmless error rule-for admission to probate. Informed by statutes that recognize e-wills, the essay concludes that a Zoom-based execution ceremony produces a Zoom will without stretching statutory formalities beyond recognition during a period of extreme isolation.

Community engagement, defined as the process of getting communities involved in decisions that affect them (NICE, 2008), is paramount to the development and governance of services and activities that promote health and target inequalities (Buck, Baylis, Dougall, & Robertson, 2018; NICE, 2008). The inter-professional engagement module is an integral part of the curriculum of Peninsula Dental School, University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. It enables second-year undergraduate dental and dental therapy and hygiene students to develop and deliver an oral health intervention targeted at disadvantaged groups in the community. These groups commonly experience higher levels of dental disease (Public Health England, …

Objectives: To investigate associations between androgens (testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate [DHEAS] and androstenedione), adiposity, fat distribution and insulin resistance (IR) during childhood and adolescence. Methods: Three hundred and seven children (170 [55.4%] boys; 137 [44.6%] girls)recruited at age 5 and studied annually until age 16: androgens (liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry), anthropometry, body composition (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) and IR (homeostasis model assessment). Results: Early adiposity was associated with earlier detection of androstenedione in both sexes, and DHEAS in boys. At puberty, higher androgen levels were associated with favourable metabolic changes in boys, but adverse metabolic effects in girls. In boys, higher free …

AimLower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are a common urological referral, which sometimes can have a neurological basis in a patient with no formally diagnosed neurological disease (“occult neurology”). Early identification and specialist input is needed to avoid bad LUTS outcomes, and to initiate suitable neurological management.MethodsThe International Continence Society established a neurological working group to consider: Which neurological conditions may include LUTS as an early feature? What diagnostic evaluations should be undertaken in the LUTS clinic? A shortlist of conditions was drawn up by expert consensus and discussed at the annual congress of the International Neurourology Society. A multidisciplinary working …

Aims To investigate the mechanism of hyperglycaemia in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) by modelling physiological insulin secretion. Methods 45 non-diabetic women with PCOS (defined by Rotterdam criteria) and 47 controls were studied. Insulin secretion was modelled from glucose and C-peptide concentrations during a 6-point oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and insulin resistance (IR) was determined by the Matsuda Insulin Sensitivity Index (ISI). Results (1). β-Cell Glucose Sensitivity (βCGS) is not intrinsically impaired in PCOS, but IR is increased. (2) However, women with PCOS and 2-hour hyperglycaemia (glucose >7.5 mmol/l]) were characterized by worse βCGS compared with women with …
