Prevalence Of Workplace Violence Towards Nurses In Acute Care Adolescent Mental Health, Jennifer Yarberry Dec 2020

Prevalence Of Workplace Violence Towards Nurses In Acute Care Adolescent Mental Health, Jennifer Yarberry

Theses and Dissertations from 2020

Workplace violence towards healthcare workers is an increasing problem within the behavioral health nursing profession. Workplace violence is a threat or an act of physical violence or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs in the workplace (U.S. Department of Labor, 2013). The purpose of this quantitative research study was to identify the contributing factors of workplace violence in an acute care psychiatric facility and to implement a “safe environment” workplace violence prevention program for psychiatric nurses. This convenience sample (N=23) of registered nurses were recruited from an acute pediatric psychiatric setting in Arkansas, treating children ages five to seventeen. Nurses …

Preceptor Training: A Quantitative Study To Determine The Effectiveness Of A Formal Preceptor Training Program For Medical-Surgical Nurse Preceptors, Jessica L. Strickland

Theses and Dissertations from 2020

Nurse preceptors are essential to the success of new graduate registered nurses entering the workforce. Nurse preceptors serve to improve the competence and confidence of new graduate registered nurses during their transition to practice. To be an effective nurse preceptor, the nurse preceptor needs to be properly trained. A trained nurse preceptor understands the roles and responsibilities of a nurse preceptor. As they utilize their formal training, they increase their skills and capabilities. A positive experience during the transition to practice process may improve nurse retention and patient outcomes. The focus of this quantitative, descriptive research study was to determine …

Ownership Structure And Corporate Social Responsibility In An Emerging Market, Sreevas Sahasranamam, Bindu Arya, Mukesh Sud Dec 2020

Ownership Structure And Corporate Social Responsibility In An Emerging Market, Sreevas Sahasranamam, Bindu Arya, Mukesh Sud

Ed G. Smith College of Business Faculty Works

While scholarship exploring the impact of ownership structure on corporate social responsibility (CSR) has investigated firms in developed markets, less work has examined how ownership in firms from emerging markets influences community-related CSR. Both internal and external forces potentially drive community-related CSR decisions. It is hence important to understand the role of internal constraints arising due to agency problems along with institutional pressures from external stakeholders in emerging markets in shaping CSR. In this study, we draw on agency theory and sociological perspectives of institutions to explore variations in the motivation of different owners to pursue a socially responsible agenda. …

Politics Stops At Nature's Edge: The Need For Bipartisanship In Environmental Policymaking, Allison Kustic Dec 2020

Politics Stops At Nature's Edge: The Need For Bipartisanship In Environmental Policymaking, Allison Kustic

Political Science & International Studies | Senior Theses

Climate change is an existential threat to humans and everyday life, yet in recent years Congress has been unable to pass comprehensive environmental policy that addresses climate change. Collaboration between both parties in Congress is often necessary for passing legislation. There was a time when bipartisanship was common, and Congress passed significant environmental legislation. In particular, this happened during the 1970s with the Clean Water Act in 1972, the Endangered Species Act in 1973, the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974, and the Toxic Substances Control Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act in 1976. However, since 1994, increased polarization …

C11orf95-Rela Reprograms 3d Epigenome In Supratentorial Ependymoma., Jacqueline Jufen Zhu, Nathaniel L. Jillette, Xiao-Nan Li, Albert Cheng, Ching C Lau

Faculty Research 2020

Supratentorial ependymoma (ST-EPN) is a type of malignant brain tumor mainly seen in children. Since 2014, it has been known that an intrachromosomal fusion C11orf95-RELA is an oncogenic driver in ST-EPN [Parker et al. Nature 506:451-455 (2014); Pietsch et al. Acta Neuropathol 127:609-611 (2014)] but the molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis are unclear. Here we show that the C11orf95 component of the fusion protein dictates DNA binding activity while the RELA component is required for driving the expression of ependymoma-associated genes. Epigenomic characterizations using ChIP-seq and HiChIP approaches reveal that C11orf95-RELA modulates chromatin states and mediates chromatin interactions, leading to transcriptional …

The Effectiveness And Priorities Of The American College President:Perceptions From The Faculty Lounge, G. David Gearhart, Daniel P. Nadler, Michael T. Miller

Journal of Research on the College President

The American college presidency has become increasingly complex, particularly due to the wide variety of demands placed on the position. Indeed, the effectiveness of a president is often seen through the lens of different constituents. Historically, the faculty have played a key role in determining the success of a president, and the current study sought to identify the perceptions of faculty members regarding the effectiveness of presidents. Additionally, the study sought to compare faculty perception of desired versus actual effectiveness of presidential responsibilities.

Stepping Down? Theorizing The Process Of Returning To The Faculty After Senior Academicleadership, Lisa Jasinski Dec 2020

Stepping Down? Theorizing The Process Of Returning To The Faculty After Senior Academicleadership, Lisa Jasinski

Journal of Research on the College President

While scholars have devoted considerable attention to identifying and developing future academic leaders, scant empirical research has considered the firsthand experiences of senior leaders who returned to the faculty. This grounded theory study developed a theoretical understanding of the process of returning to the faculty after serving as a senior campus administrator. This research examined a common academic rite of passage using the analysis of interviews with 43 former college presidents, provosts, deans, and “other senior leaders” from a variety of postsecondary institutions. Academic leaders in the study characterized the process of returning to the faculty as mostly positive and …

This article will discuss five specific areas that college presidents need to know about how honors college function and the issues they often face, with the goal of furthering an executive leader’s knowledge of these programs.
