Pretrial Release Policy Portfolios: Examining Changes Over Time In States With Low Policy Activity, Madison Kristine Doyle Dec 2020

Pretrial Release Policy Portfolios: Examining Changes Over Time In States With Low Policy Activity, Madison Kristine Doyle

Theses and Dissertations

Changes in the policy process is one of the lesser explored phenomena within the field of criminal justice. A basis of knowledge about changes in various criminal justice policy processes in the U.S., could benefit scholars and practitioners alike. This thesis explores changes in content of pretrial release policy (PRP) portfolios in states with the least policy activity both within and across states over time. A thematic content analysis of PRPs from eight U.S. states (Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Maine, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming) revealed how PRPs have changed in those states over time. States that had fewer …

The Effects Of Exercise On Breastmilk Composition And Supply: A Critical Literature Review, Jewell Mcroy Dec 2020

The Effects Of Exercise On Breastmilk Composition And Supply: A Critical Literature Review, Jewell Mcroy

Masters Theses, 2020-current

It is well established that breastfeeding provides dual benefits to both the mother and the infant and is the preferred method of providing nutrients to infants essential for growth and development. Participating in regular physical exercise is also well-supported by research to be beneficial to one’s overall health and quality of life. Currently there are no physical activity guidelines developed for women who are postpartum and breastfeeding. An online database search was conducted; three articles met the inclusion criteria and were included within the review. Studies were included if there were direct measures of human breastmilk composition, supply/volume, and included …

The objective of this study was to determine the result reproducibility and performance of the BD Onclarity human papillomavirus (HPV) assay (Onclarity) on the BD Viper LT platform using both contrived and clinical specimens. Reproducibility was assessed in BD SurePath liquid-based cytology (LBC) medium (SurePath) using contrived panels (HPV genotype 16 [HPV16] positive, HPV18 positive, or HPV45 positive) or clinical specimens (HPV16, -18, -31, -33/58, -45, or -52 positive or HPV negative). In addition, specimens from 3,879 individuals from the Onclarity trial were aliquoted prior to or following cytology processing and tested for HPV. Finally, specimens were collected using either …

Growth Strategies Through Mergers And Acquisitions In Knowledge-Based Companies – The Case For Architect/Engineer (A/E) Professional Service Firms (Psfs), Terry A. Ruhl Dec 2020

Growth Strategies Through Mergers And Acquisitions In Knowledge-Based Companies – The Case For Architect/Engineer (A/E) Professional Service Firms (Psfs), Terry A. Ruhl

College of Business Theses and Dissertations

Analyses of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) across industries are prevalent in the literature. Yet, this research reveals that at least half, if not more, of all M&A activity fails to meet strategic, operational, and financial objectives, and can result in declining employee and customer satisfaction. The research herein develops a model framework for alternative growth strategies in the architecture/engineering (A/E) industry, with a specific focus on the antecedents of successful M&A among A/E professional service firms (PSFs).At the center of the model is the Resource Based View of the Firm, where leadership capacity, cash, and capital flows yield an affordable …

Comparison Of Upper Respiratory Viral Load Distributions In Asymptomatic And Symptomatic Children Diagnosed With Sars-Cov-2 Infection In Pediatric Hospital Testing Programs, Larry K Kociolek, Bijal A Parikh, Ariel Hernandez-Leyva, Et Al Dec 2020

Comparison Of Upper Respiratory Viral Load Distributions In Asymptomatic And Symptomatic Children Diagnosed With Sars-Cov-2 Infection In Pediatric Hospital Testing Programs, Larry K Kociolek, Bijal A Parikh, Ariel Hernandez-Leyva, Et Al

Open Access Publications

The distribution of upper respiratory viral loads (VL) in asymptomatic children infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is unknown. We assessed PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values and estimated VL in infected asymptomatic children diagnosed in nine pediatric hospital testing programs. Records for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients with positive clinical SARS-CoV-2 tests were reviewed. Ct values were (i) adjusted by centering each value around the institutional median Ct value from symptomatic children tested with that assay and (ii) converted to estimated VL (numbers of copies per milliliter) using internal or manufacturer data. Adjusted Ct values and estimated VL …

Community Health Sciences

Background: Preterm birth continues to be a major public health problem contributing to 75% of the neonatal mortality worldwide. Low birth weight (LBW) is an important but imperfect surrogate for prematurity when accurate assessment of gestational age is not possible. While there is overlap between preterm birth and LBW newborns, those that are both premature and LBW are at the highest risk of adverse neonatal outcomes. Understanding the epidemiology of preterm birth and LBW is important for prevention and improved care for at risk newborns, but in many countries, data are sparse and incomplete.
Methods: We conducted data analyses using …

The Megaton Mission : The Role Of The Nuclear Arms Race In 1950s British Imperialism, Joseph David Daniel Holding

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

In August 1945, the Pacific theatre of the Second World War came to a dramatic close with the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Following this, tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union grew tremendously and the two superpowers set about developing even more destructive bombs in case these tensions reached a breaking point. The nuclear bomb came to symbolise power in the post-war era. However, they were not the only powers with nuclear programmes in the 1950s. Churchill, and successive Conservative governments, were keen in joining the nuclear arms race. Operation Grapple was …

Technoference: Parent Mobile Device Use And Implications For Children And Parent-Child Relationships., Brandon T. Mcdaniel Phd

Health Services and Informatics Research

The increase in the prevalence of smartphones and mobile devices has spurred changes in the caregiving environment of infants and young children, as phones and mobile devices are used at times during caregiving and in caregiving spaces. This use could create disruptions and cause distractions during parenting (termed technoference). This article summarizes the potential impacts on parent responsiveness and the experiences of infants and young children. Yet, it also warns that it is important to consider the reason for and type of parent use. Finally, the article ends with practical tips for working with parents concerning mobile device use.

Does Early Surgery Prevent Postoperative Icu Admission After Surgery For The Fracture Of The Hip. Nested Case Control Study Of 911 Patients, Obada Hasan, Laraib Mazhar, Umar Rabbani, Amna Rabbani, Fatima Mahmood, Shahryar Noordin

Department of Medicine

Introduction: Since most hip fractures are treated surgically, it is imperative to find an optimum fracture-to-surgery time to decrease the potential complications and enhance postoperative outcomes. In comparison to the vast plethora of literature available on surgical delay and its implications on mortality, very little, if any, research is available on the impact of delayed surgery on postoperative ICU admission. The primary objective of our study is to examine the factors influencing post-surgical ICU admission in order to work on preventive strategies to reduce the potential associated morbidity.
Material and methods: Investigators did a nested case control study in a …

An Interdisciplinary Analysis Of Health Equity As Evaluated Through The Covid-19 Response Concerning French-Speaking Refugees., Margaret Henning

Honors Theses

A collaborative approach is needed to understand the multifaceted medical bias and inequalities experienced by refugee camps of Francophone (French-speaking) nations. A combination of interest and passion for anthropology, medicine, and the French language presents a unique window of intersectionality to analyze this issue. Through a comprehensive review of literature published in both English and French languages, and connections with directors and leaders of refugee camps located in France and French-speaking African nations, we have elucidated a few examples of alarming medical bias experienced by both refugees and migrants. Although an exhaustive list of medical bias could be presented on …

BACKGROUND: Retention in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care is dynamic, with patients frequently transitioning in and out of care. Analytical approaches (eg, survival analyses) commonly used to assess HIV care cascade outcomes fail to capture such transitions and therefore incompletely represent care outcomes over time.

METHODS: We analyzed antiretroviral therapy (ART)-eligible adults newly linking to care at 64 clinics in Zambia between 1 April 2014 and 31 July 2015. We used electronic medical record data and supplemented these with updated care outcomes ascertained by tracing a multistage random sample of patients lost to follow-up (LTFU, >90 days late for last …

Transformational Leadership: Implementing A Cultural Approach In Organizations, Mostafa Sayyadi Ghasabeh

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership

This study provides support for the positive impact of transformational leadership on knowledge management. This article reveals that transformational leaders contribute to knowledge management by acting as effective change agents through better management of firms’ internal resources (i.e. organizational culture). In terms of mediating effects, this article shows that organizational culture is important in the relationship between transformational leadership and knowledge management. The study also shows that transformational leaders not only directly impact knowledge management but, more specifically, foster a more effective culture, which positively contributes to the effectiveness of knowledge management.

Fair And Stable Prices In The Age Of Greed: The Torah View, Hershey H. Friedman, Murray Mizrachi

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership

Much of the Jewish legal tradition deals with business ethics. This paper focuses on an overlooked precept: ensuring price stability. There is a tendency to trivialize the law mandating that prices be kept low and affordable, but in the wake of the 2020 world pandemic, these laws are more important than ever. Indeed, very few people are aware that the ninth blessing of the ancient Amida (also known as shemoneh esrei) prayer, established by the 120 members of the Great Assembly in the 5th century BCE, is a prayer for divine protection against individuals who would raise prices …
