About our Book
Hi everyone! Hannah here. As college students, my friend Emily and I are studying from home. We realized you probably are working from home too, and might not quite know why. So we put together this book to try and explain viruses- the annoying buggers behind the coronavirus and even the common cold. We hope you enjoy it and learn some new things about science too!

© 2020 The Heart Rhythm Society, the American Heart Association, Inc., and the American College of Cardiology Foundation Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has presented substantial challenges to patient care and impacted health care delivery, including cardiac electrophysiology practice throughout the globe. Based upon the undetermined course and regional variability of the pandemic, there is uncertainty as to how and when to resume and deliver electrophysiology services for arrhythmia patients. This joint document from representatives of the Heart Rhythm Society, American Heart Association, and American College of Cardiology seeks to provide guidance for clinicians and institutions reestablishing safe electrophysiological care. OBJECTIVE: To describe individual patient preferences for Personalised Trials and to identify factors and conditions associated with patient preferences.
DESIGN: Each participant was presented with 18 conjoint questions via an online survey. Each question provided two choices of Personalised Trials that were defined by up to eight attributes, including treatment types, clinician involvement, study logistics and trial burden on a patient.
SETTING: Online survey of adults with at least two common chronic conditions in the USA.
PARTICIPANTS: A nationally representative sample of 501 individuals were recruited from the Chronic Illness Panel by Harris Poll Online. Participants were recruited from several …

Crystallography Case Studies At The Undergraduate Level, Peter Josue Rosado Flores
Crystallography Case Studies At The Undergraduate Level, Peter Josue Rosado Flores
Faculty and Staff Works
Powder diffraction is not a characterization method alien when it concerns inorganic chemistry and material science. At the undergraduate level, however, it is rare to come upon the teaching of these methods (probably due to the lack of expensive instrumentation that could ascend the $500,000 USD mark), and instructors mostly focus on the theory. This work provides techniques to construct these case studies that could be utilized in a classroom environment, particularly at the intermediate and advance inorganic chemistry level. Therefore, the purpose of this study seeks to contribute implemented ideas to the facilitation of crystallography education at the undergraduate …
Structural Insight Into The Mechanism Of N-Linked Glycosylation By Oligosaccharyltransferase, Smita Mohanty, Bharat P. Chaudhary, David Zoetewey
Structural Insight Into The Mechanism Of N-Linked Glycosylation By Oligosaccharyltransferase, Smita Mohanty, Bharat P. Chaudhary, David Zoetewey
Faculty and Staff Works
Asparagine-linked glycosylation, also known as N-linked glycosylation is an essential and highly conserved post-translational protein modification that occurs in all three domains of life. This modification is essential for specific molecular recognition, protein folding, sorting in the endoplasmic reticulum, cell–cell communication, and stability. Defects in N-linked glycosylation results in a class of inherited diseases known as congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG). N-linked glycosylation occurs in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) lumen by a membrane associated enzyme complex called the oligosaccharyltransferase (OST). In the central step of this reaction, an oligosaccharide group is transferred from a lipid-linked dolichol pyrophosphate donor to the …

Cultural Linguistics And Treaty Language: A Modernized Approach To Interpreting Treaty Language To Capture The Tribe's Understanding, Barbara Cosens
Cultural Linguistics And Treaty Language: A Modernized Approach To Interpreting Treaty Language To Capture The Tribe's Understanding, Barbara Cosens
Articles
Language is a reflection of a thought world. A worldview that has been shaped by place to describe one's identity in space and time does not equate to species relatedness as a default to know one another. In the legal system of the United States, there is acknowledgement of treaties in colonized lands that there are rights granted from the tribes and not to them, and those rights are land-based. Yet, the Indigenous voice is dead before arrival, before it enters the room of science, justice, academe, or otherwise. The exclusion of Indigenous peoples at the table of knowledge and …

Development Of Ceramic Water Filter Clay Selection Criteria, Zachary J. Shepard, Yichen Zhang, Nelson M. Anaya, Dawn Cardace, Vinka Oyanedel-Craver
Geosciences Faculty Publications
Ceramic water filters (CWFs) are point-of-use drinking water treatment systems that are manufactured and used in under-served communities around the world. The clayey material (CM) used to manufacture CWFs is a locally sourced mixture of clay, sand, slit and amorphous material (usually dug near the CWF factory). CM varies in composition and purity depending on the geographical location and geological setting. In this study, a set of 13 CM samples collected from around the world were analyzed using grain size analysis, as well as liquid and plastic limit tests. Mineralogical composition was determined using X-ray diffraction. A selection of three …

Planting Date, Cultivar, Seed Treatment, And Seeding Rate Effects On Soybean Growth And Yield, Thandiwe Nleya, Matthew Schutte, David Clay, Graig Reicks, Nathan Mueller
Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science Faculty Publications
Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield is a function of many factors including genetic attributes of the cultivar, environmental conditions, and management practices. Temporally variable weather patterns in North America, especially in the northern Great Plains, have resulted in the re-examination of how spring production practices interact with the environmental conditions to influence yield. This study evaluated the impact of four plantings dates, four seeding rates, and two soybean maturity groups (MGs) using treated and untreated (control) seed on soybean growth, seed yield, and composition. The study was conducted at Volga, SD, in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The planting …

Legalizing The Meaning Of Meat, Steph Tai
Legalizing The Meaning Of Meat, Steph Tai
Loyola University Chicago Law Journal
What we call meat has become a contentious issue in the United States. This Article is the first to explore the many dynamics behind meat labeling laws proposed by various state legislatures. It uses food studies methods to places those debates within a larger context of the history of “meat” and plant-based proteins, as well as other food labeling struggles. The Article ultimately argues that expressly recognizing these dynamics can augment sustainable food advocacy efforts in the future.
