The Ramey Incised Pottery Of Cahokia (Il) Usa: Diffusion And Reinterpretation Of Its Iconographic Message, Melissa Mattioli
Congreso internacional sobre iconografía precolombina, Barcelona, 2019. Actas.

The proposal of this work is to address the iconographic universe of Aguada societies (Argentine Northwest), focusing particularly on the analysis of compound and ambiguous figures. The idea is to identify them, interpret them perceptually and characterize them, and then access other planes of …
Beauvoir In Time, Meryl Altman
Beauvoir In Time, Meryl Altman
English Faculty publications
Beauvoir in Time situates Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex in the historical context of its writing and in later contexts of its international reception, from then till now. The book takes up three aspects of Beauvoir's work more recent feminists find embarrassing: "bad sex," "dated" views about lesbians, and intersections with race and class. Through close reading of Beauvoir's writing in many genres, alongside contemporaneous discourses (good and bad novels in French and English, outmoded psychoanalytic and sexological authorities, ethnographic surrealism, the writing of Richard Wright and Franz Fanon), and in light of her travels to the U.S. and …

‘Perfect Pearls: Australian Pearling Songs’, Karl Neuenfeldt
Talking Heads Seminar Series
Abstract The historic Australian pearling industry was an important part of the Australian economy, especially along the 'Pearl Frontier' that stretched from Western Australia to Queensland. Pearling helped create new northern town such as Broome, Darwin and Thursday Island and music and music king were essential parts of their social and cultural activities. Music was everywhere in the life of the many peoples who created the multinational, multicultural and multilingual communities across the 'Pearl Frontier'. The presentation focuses on some songs, performed both live and from the album 'Perfect Pearls: Australian Pearling Songs', and also images of the industry.

Genetic polymorphic characteristics like ABO and Rh blood groups are widely used genetic markers in human population genetics. This study was conducted to determine and compare the frequency of ABO and Rh(D) blood group antigens among Al-Muhamasheen and Yemeni Tribesmen. Frequencies of ABO blood groups and Rh(D) types along with the respective gene frequencies were estimated in two study groups. 818 individuals belonging to Muhammasheen and 838 individuals Tribesmen from Sana'a city participated in the study. Blood samples were collected by finger-prick method. Frequencies of ABO groups in AlMuhamasheen groups showed that the most common blood groups were found to …

Short And Long Term Effects Of Lime And Gypsum Applications On Acid Soils In A Water-Limited Environment: 1. Grain Yield Response And Nutrient Concentration, Geoff Anderson, Shahab Pathan, James Easton, David Hall, Rajesh Sharma
Grain and Other Field Crops Research Articles
Surface (0–10 cm) and subsoil (soil layers below 10 cm) acidity and resulting aluminum (Al) toxicity reduce crop grain yields. In South Western Australia (SWA), these constraints affect 14.2 million hectares or 53% of the agricultural area. Both lime (L, CaCO3) and gypsum (G, CaSO4) application can decrease the toxic effect of Al, leading to an increase in crop grain yields. Within the region, it is unclear if G alone or the combined use of L and G has a role in alleviating soil acidity in SWA, due to low sulfate S (SO4–S) sorption properties of the soil. We present …

Stories Of Community Practice, Artistic Ambivalence, And Emergent Pedagogies, Rebecca Bourgault
International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education
The reflections and questions discussed in the paper emerged from a teaching artist experience in community-art that led to the examination of the contrasting values between the disciplinary paradigms of social practices, community-based and participatory arts and that of the contemporary artworld aesthetics. As goals of art for social justice often contradict the perception of artistic merit based on aesthetic quality, working at the intersection of artistic creation and community development demands a shift in perspectives. The position demands going beyond one’s artistic ambivalences, to include participants in a reciprocal relationship, attentive to the fact that any goals of empowerment …

Environmental Impacts On Reproductive Responses Of Pacific Walruses (Odobenus Rosmarus Divergens) And Subsistence Users Of St. Lawrence Island, Jenell T. Larsen Tempel
Environmental Impacts On Reproductive Responses Of Pacific Walruses (Odobenus Rosmarus Divergens) And Subsistence Users Of St. Lawrence Island, Jenell T. Larsen Tempel
Fisheries
An interdisciplinary approach is used in understanding change and resiliency in St. Lawrence Island (SLI) resources and resource users throughout this dissertation. Historically SLI inhabitants have relied on the Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) for their survival and this resource is still highly valued for cultural and dietary purposes. The responses of Pacific walruses and SLI subsistence users to environmental change was analyzed. In walruses, reproductive capacity was analyzed using an anatomical approach as well as reproductive plasticity which was determined using a physiological approach to characterize their estrus cycle. A suite of anatomical measurements were developed to characterize reproductive …
Sea Otters In Southeast Alaska: Subsistence Harvest And Ecological Effects In Seagrass Communities, Wendel W. Raymond
Sea Otters In Southeast Alaska: Subsistence Harvest And Ecological Effects In Seagrass Communities, Wendel W. Raymond
Fisheries
The recovery of sea otters (Enhydra lutris) to Southeast Alaska is a conservation success story, but their increasing population raises questions about sea otter population dynamics and the ecological role of this top-level predator. In Chapter 1, we addressed these questions by investigating patterns and population effects of subsistence sea otter harvest. Subsistence harvest reduced populations at a small scale, with potential to slow or stop population growth, but across Southeast Alaska the population continues to grow, even with an average 3% subsistence harvest rate. In Chapters 2 and 3 we investigated the ecological role of sea otters in seagrass …
Computed Tomography In Medicolegal Death Investigation: A Critical Review, Trenton Eames
Computed Tomography In Medicolegal Death Investigation: A Critical Review, Trenton Eames
University Honors Theses
The use of computed tomography (CT) scanning in medicolegal death investigations has increased in frequency in recent years. It can be used by investigators to help identify a victim, find a cause of death, or otherwise reveal legally relevant case details. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the research surrounding the use of CT scanning in medicolegal death investigation, focusing in particular on researchers’ scrutiny of the accuracy and precision of this technique within forensic contexts. Thirty-nine research papers were reviewed, with specific attributes and findings examined together in an effort to contextualize CT scanning in medicolegal death investigations. CT scanning …
