Certain Quadruple Hypergeometric Series And Their Integral Representations, Maged Bin-Saad, Jihad Younis Dec 2019

Certain Quadruple Hypergeometric Series And Their Integral Representations, Maged Bin-Saad, Jihad Younis

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

While investigating the Exton's list of twenty one hyper-geometric functions of four variables and the Sharma's and Parihar's list of eighty three hyper-geometric functions of four variables, we noticed existence of new hyper-geometric series of four variables. The principal object of this paper is to introduce new hyper-geometric series of four variables and present a natural further step toward the mathematical integral presentation concerning these new series of four variables. Integral representations of Euler type and Laplace type involving Appell's hyper-geometric functions and the Horn's series of two variables, Exton's and Lauricella's triple functions and Sharma and Parihar hyper-geometric functions …

The Impact Of Income On Nutrition. A Case Study Of Northern Mozambique, Hunter Swanigan Dec 2019

The Impact Of Income On Nutrition. A Case Study Of Northern Mozambique, Hunter Swanigan

Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Undergraduate Honors Theses

In 2017, Mozambique ranked as one of the least-developed countries in the world by measures of health, education, and income, and had one of the lowest GDP per capita at $1,300. With a minimal income, purchasing adequate food to meet recommended levels of nutrients for a healthy diet is difficult, leaving almost half of the country’s population undernourished. This study researched what foods are available during the dry months (hungry season) of May through October in the Nampula province of Mozambique to analyze if it is possible to meet the National Institutes of Health’s recommended levels of nutrients from purchasing …

Duality Between Dirac Fermions In Curved Spacetime And Optical Solitons In Non-Linear Schrodinger Model: Magic Of 1 + 1 -Dimensional Bosonization, Subir Ghosh Dec 2019

Duality Between Dirac Fermions In Curved Spacetime And Optical Solitons In Non-Linear Schrodinger Model: Magic Of 1 + 1 -Dimensional Bosonization, Subir Ghosh

Journal Articles

Bosonization in curved spacetime maps massive Thirring model (self-interacting Dirac fermions) to a generalized Sine–Gordon model, both living in 1 + 1 -dimensional curved spacetime. Applying this duality we have shown that the Thirring model fermion, in non-relativistic limit, gets identified with the soliton of non-linear Scrodinger model with Kerr form of non-linearity. We discuss one particular optical soliton in the latter model and relate it with the Thirring model fermion.

Implementing A Community-Based Breastfeeding And Infant Support Tent At University Of Arkansas Athletic Events, Moranda Clark Dec 2019

Implementing A Community-Based Breastfeeding And Infant Support Tent At University Of Arkansas Athletic Events, Moranda Clark

The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing Undergraduate Honors Theses

Breastfeeding is such an important role in a mother and baby’s relationship as it establishes a unique bond while also providing health benefits for both parties involved. Unfortunately, many women are discriminated against for trying to breastfeed in public and with little to no designated breastfeeding areas or sanitary places in such spaces; they are left with very few viable options. During the last year I have been completing an internship surrounding the subject of breastfeeding and have helped to implement a breastfeeding and infant support tent at University of Arkansas athletic events. My work has included extensive research, lactation …

University Academic Advising: Impact Analysis, Amanda M. Hagman, Mykel Beorchia, Erik Dickamore

Publications

abstract: Academic advising performs a pivotal contribution to student success by providing information about university expectations and avenues towards graduation. The impact of academic advising is routinely assessed to explore its influence on student persistence. This report explores the impact of academic advising between 2016 to 2019 on student persistence to the next term. METHODS: Academic advising met with nearly 40% of students at USU each semester. Students who had a record of meeting with an academic advisor were compared to similar students who did not. Students were compared using prediction-based propensity score matching. Students who met with an advisor …

Akbar's Religious Reforms: Unifying Mortal Enemies, Khadija S. Sadia Dec 2019

Akbar's Religious Reforms: Unifying Mortal Enemies, Khadija S. Sadia

Honors Capstones

In the late 1500s, Emperor Akbar from the Mughal Empire was the most well known emperor for his religious tolerance. As Europe faced the flames of the Inquisition Era, down in the Indian subcontinent, Akbar was determined to make his empire a place of unity and peace. This desire which I examine is largely due to his experiences in a cosmopolitan area where Akbar saw the unity already there. With the cultural and religious tensions that occurred all throughout the Mughal Empire, Akbar established the House of Worship and his own Divine Religion in efforts to unite his people. These …

Impacts Of Eutrophication On Benthic Invertebrates & Fish Prey Of Birds In Farmington And Bear River Bays Of Great Salt Lake, Trip Armstrong, Wayne A. Wurtsbaugh Dec 2019

Impacts Of Eutrophication On Benthic Invertebrates & Fish Prey Of Birds In Farmington And Bear River Bays Of Great Salt Lake, Trip Armstrong, Wayne A. Wurtsbaugh

Watershed Sciences Faculty Publications

Farmington Bay’s watershed is primarily in the heavily populated metropolitan Salt Lake City, and consequently, it receives approximately 50% of its inflow from nutrient‐ rich wastewater releases. The high nutrient loads make it eutrophic and reducing the loading has been suggested to reduce blooms of toxic cyanobacteria. However, the bay also supports thousands of wading birds and waterfowl, and there is concern that reducing nutrient inflows might reduce the production of bottom‐dwelling insects and other invertebrates that the birds rely upon.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall? An Inquiry Into The Values And Shortcomings Of Uniform Methodology For Statutory Interpretation, Chelsea A. Bunge-Bollman Dec 2019

United We Stand, Divided We Fall? An Inquiry Into The Values And Shortcomings Of Uniform Methodology For Statutory Interpretation, Chelsea A. Bunge-Bollman

Notre Dame Law Review Reflection

How should courts interpret statutes? This question has fueled generations of debate. Some believe generally that legislative intent should be understood based on the greater purpose of the statute; others believe that would be “pure applesauce” and the legislative intent should be understood through the plain meaning of the statute as written. Where one lands on that spectrum dictates the acceptable use of various tools for statutory interpretation, from legislative history to dictionaries. But, this is largely a theoretical exercise because statutory interpretation is messy in practice. The judiciary employs a variety of methodologies across cases, courts, time periods, and …

Inequalities For Permanents And Permanental Minors Of Row Substochastic Matrices, Zhi Chen, Jiawei Li, Lizhen Yang, Zelin Zhu, Lei Cao Dec 2019

Inequalities For Permanents And Permanental Minors Of Row Substochastic Matrices, Zhi Chen, Jiawei Li, Lizhen Yang, Zelin Zhu, Lei Cao

Mathematics Faculty Articles

In this paper, some inequalities for permanents and permanental minors of row substochastic matrices are proved. The convexity of the permanent function on the interval between the identity matrix and an arbitrary row substochastic matrix is also proved. In addition, a conjecture about the permanent and permanental minors of square row substochastic matrices with fixed row and column sums is formulated.

Finitely Generated Sets Of Fuzzy Values: If "And" Is Exact, Then "Or" Is Almost Always Approximate, And Vice Versa -- A Theorem, Julio Urenda, Olga Kosheleva, Vladik Kreinovich Dec 2019

Finitely Generated Sets Of Fuzzy Values: If "And" Is Exact, Then "Or" Is Almost Always Approximate, And Vice Versa -- A Theorem, Julio Urenda, Olga Kosheleva, Vladik Kreinovich

Departmental Technical Reports (CS)

In the traditional fuzzy logic, experts' degrees of confidence are described by numbers from the interval [0,1]. Clearly, not all the numbers from this interval are needed: in the whole history of the Universe, there will be only countably many statements and thus, only countably many possible degree, while the interval [0,1] is uncountable. It is therefore interesting to analyze what is the set S of actually used values. The answer depends on the choice of "and"-operations (t-norms) and "or"-operations (t-conorms). For the simplest pair of min and max, any finite set will do -- as long as it is …

Fuzzy Logic Explains The Usual Choice Of Logical Operations In 2-Valued Logic, Julio Urenda, Olga Kosheleva, Vladik Kreinovich Dec 2019

Fuzzy Logic Explains The Usual Choice Of Logical Operations In 2-Valued Logic, Julio Urenda, Olga Kosheleva, Vladik Kreinovich

Departmental Technical Reports (CS)

In the usual 2-valued logic, from the purely mathematical viewpoint, there are many possible binary operations. However, in commonsense reasoning, we only use a few of them: why? In this paper, we show that fuzzy logic can explain the usual choice of logical operations in 2-valued logic.

Analysis Of Essential Programs And Services Components: Isolated Small Schools Adjustment Report Of Findings, Sarah Jessen, Amy F. Johnson Phd Dec 2019

Analysis Of Essential Programs And Services Components: Isolated Small Schools Adjustment Report Of Findings, Sarah Jessen, Amy F. Johnson Phd

Small Geographically Isolated Schools

The Essential Programs and Services (EPS) cost model provides an additional allocation to schools that are identified as small and geographically isolated, in recognition that such schools have less opportunity to achieve economies of scale, and possibly have other additional costs inherent to geographic isolation. The form of the adjustment is a reduced student-to-teacher ratio for schools in lower size categories that meet the geographic isolation criteria, along with an additional per-pupil allocation amount for operation and maintenance of physical plant in island schools. The components of the EPS funding formula are subject to periodic review. Prior analyses of the …

Invariant Sum Defined In Terms Of Complex Multivariate Polynomial Given Degree, Matthew Niemiro '20

Exemplary Student Work

We use a generalized version of arithmetic progressions to obtain a non- trivial everywhere-zero sum in terms of a complex univariate polynomial and its degree. We then remark on its generalization to multivariate polynomials.
