Rapid And Sustained Response To Immune Checkpoint Inhibition In Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma After Allogenic Hematopoietic Cell Transplant For Sézary Syndrome, Karam Khaddour, Amy Musiek, Lynn A Cornelius, Farrokh Dehdashti, Peter Westervelt, Ryan Fields, George Ansstas

2010-2019 OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is not uncommon in association with indolent malignancies that were treated with prior radiotherapy and after allogenic bone marrow transplantation. On the other hand, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which is characterized by an indolent course, with relative refractoriness to conventional chemotherapies and radiotherapy, and occasionally referred for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Recently, the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors has gained attention in the treatment of both cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and hematological malignancies. However, many patients with hematological malignancies eventually undergo allo-HCT, raising the concern of potential …

Crustal Structure Beneath The East Coast Magnetic Anomaly From Seismic Refraction Tomography, Collin C. Brandl Dec 2019

Crustal Structure Beneath The East Coast Magnetic Anomaly From Seismic Refraction Tomography, Collin C. Brandl

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

Syn-rift igneous addition is necessary for successful continental breakup. Past investigations of passive margins have focused on strike perpendicular structure, but potential field anomalies indicate that significant crustal variations may be present. Data from 21 ocean bottom seismometers was acquired as part of the Eastern North American Margin Community Seismic Experiment and was used for tomographic inversion to create 2D velocity models of the margin that are representative of crustal structure. Crustal thickness varies along-strike from ~20 km to ~24 km and a high velocity (Vp > 7 km/s) layer is present at the base of the crust above the Moho. …

Trematodes And Neorickettsia: Diversity Of Digeneans And Their Bacterial Endosymbionts (Neorickettsia) In Mollusk First Intermediate Hosts From Eastern Mongolia, Morgan Gallahue

Honors College Theses

This study focused on the survey of 34 freshwater snail samples collected from NE Mongolia for larval flatworm parasites in the class Trematoda. 32 of the snail samples were infected, and the parasites were identified based on morphology and DNA sequences. Nine of the identified parasite samples were screened for the presence of bacterial endosymbionts in the genus Neorickettsia in the family Anaplasmataceae. All of the samples screened for Neorickettsia were negative for the bacterium. Species of Neorickettsia are known to cause several diseases such as Sennetsu Fever (in humans) and Potomac Horse Fever. There have been relatively few reliable …

Static Taint Analysis Of Binary Executables Using Architecture-Neutral Intermediate Representation, Elaine Cole Dec 2019

Static Taint Analysis Of Binary Executables Using Architecture-Neutral Intermediate Representation, Elaine Cole

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Ghidra, National Security Agency’s powerful reverse engineering framework, was recently released open-source in April 2019 and is capable of lifting instructions from a wide variety of processor architectures into its own register transfer language called p-code. In this project, we present a new tool which leverages Ghidra’s specific architecture-neutral intermediate representation to construct a control flow graph modeling all program executions of a given binary and apply static taint analysis. This technique is capable of identifying the information flow of malicious input from untrusted sources that may interact with key sinks or parts of the system without needing access to …

The Investigation Of Noise, Vibrations And Emissions Of Aero-Gas Turbine Combustion With Synthetic Kerosene Fuels, Margaret Kilpatrick Dec 2019

The Investigation Of Noise, Vibrations And Emissions Of Aero-Gas Turbine Combustion With Synthetic Kerosene Fuels, Margaret Kilpatrick

Honors College Theses

Climatic changes from aviation emissions are complex and include effects of greenhouse gases such as: CO2, NOx, and aerosols. For that reason, the objectives of this study were to investigate the noise, vibrations and emissions characteristics of synthetic kerosene combustion in an aerospace gas turbine to reduce the engine’s environmental impact. Sustainably produced synthetic kerosene is known for having low soot emissions due to little to no aromatics (compounds that create particle pollutants), and for being a sustainable alternative fuel source to imported oil. The noise and sound levels were collected using Bruel & Kjaer microphones to measure various mid …

Passive Separation Of Binary Fluid Mixtures In Microchannels Using Lattice Boltzmann Method, Mohanad Kamil Radhi Dec 2019

Passive Separation Of Binary Fluid Mixtures In Microchannels Using Lattice Boltzmann Method, Mohanad Kamil Radhi

Dissertations and Theses

Fluid mixtures in real life exist in two forms: miscible and immiscible. Separation of these mixtures using chemical agents or thermal energy has both environmental and economic disadvantages. The high cost and the environmental damage caused by the traditional separation techniques have stimulated both academia and industry to seek alternatives. The emergence of microfluidics offers robust solutions for a broad span of transport problems due to the high surface to volume ratio and reduced length scales. Particularly, the separation efficiency increases significantly due to the aforementioned feature. However, there is still a pressing need of passive separations for the sake …

Analysis Of E-Cigarette Liquids And Aerosols By Nmr Spectroscopy: Compositions, Boiling Points, And Degradation Profiles, Anna Katherine Duell Dec 2019

Analysis Of E-Cigarette Liquids And Aerosols By Nmr Spectroscopy: Compositions, Boiling Points, And Degradation Profiles, Anna Katherine Duell

Dissertations and Theses

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are an increasingly popular tobacco product used by ~3% of adults and 21% of 12th grade students (as reported for the prior 30-days in surveys) in the United States in 2018. As of 2019, this number went up to ~25% for 12th grade students. Due to how quickly e-cigarettes gained popularity and the rapid design changes that have ensued, there has not been enough time to accurately assess the effects of e-cigarettes, particularly for long-term use. The liquids used in e-cigarettes (e-liquids) can degrade when vaped in an e-cigarette, so understanding the variables that can modulate degradation …

Performance Of 10 Slicing Cucumbers In Southwest Michigan, Ron G. Goldy Dec 2019

Performance Of 10 Slicing Cucumbers In Southwest Michigan, Ron G. Goldy

Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports

Fruit quality and yield were lower than in previous Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center slicing cucumber trials. This may primarily be to lower bee activity affecting pollination, fruit set and fruit shape. However, from this trial Bristol, SVCS0927, LS 75-1011, Darlington, and Perfect 10 deserve consideration for further commercial planting in Southwest Michigan.

Response Of Cucumber, Yellow Squash, And Zucchini To Six Nitrogen Rates, Ron G. Goldy Dec 2019

Response Of Cucumber, Yellow Squash, And Zucchini To Six Nitrogen Rates, Ron G. Goldy

Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports

There were few significant differences across the six nitrogen levels for the traits measured for all three crops. No clear trends were observed as nitrogen level was increased from 50 to 175#/acre. Better separation may have been obtained with more replication. Results indicate growers of slicing cucumber, yellow squash, and zucchini should be able to obtain adequate fruit yields using a season total of between 75 and 100#/acre nitrogen.

Be Honest With Me: How Federal Regulation Of Sports Gambling Must Protect The Integrity Of The Game, Grant Ellfeldt Dec 2019

Be Honest With Me: How Federal Regulation Of Sports Gambling Must Protect The Integrity Of The Game, Grant Ellfeldt

Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review

On May 14, 2018, the Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). Before the Court’s decision, PASPA had entirely prohibited states from legalizing sports gambling. In light of their newfound liberty, states began to individually legalize and regulate sports gambling. The federal government did not wait long to introduce their own regulations. On December 19, 2018, Congress introduced the Sports Wagering Market Integrity Act (SWMIA). At its core, SWMIA is designed to protect the integrity of professional sports.

To protect the integrity of professional sports and prevent fraud, SWMIA must accomplish three things. First, because …

Letterforms As Visual Communication Elements, Tatiana Ribeiro Dec 2019

Letterforms As Visual Communication Elements, Tatiana Ribeiro

Publications and Research

The purpose of this research is to explore the value and objectivity of written language through investigating human perception of letterforms as abstract visual communication elements. While communicating with one another is not unique to humans, and other species have been observed to be able to produce, perceive and learn different forms of communication, the visual aspect of human languages, represented in a an organized system of symbols is uniquely human. Languages, as our primary way of communication, possess an enormous power which is used to create and destroy, unite and divide, facilitate progress and reflect.

This research will attempt …

Publications and Research

Biopolymers are being developed with embedded nanostructures for in vivo drug delivery to treat various diseases including cancers. In the current project we developed fabrication steps to prepare two biopolymers, poly di-methoxy siloxane (PDMS) with 0-0.9 vol% of SiC nano whisker (fillers) followed by non- destructive characterization. Optical reflection microscopy (5-100X) was performed to ensure loading and distribution of increasing SiC content. Optical microscopy showed progressively higher SiC distribution as filler loading was increased from 0-0.9 vol%. X-ray imaging at low kV (kilovoltage) and low mAs (milliamperage per second) were optimized to allow distinction between filled PDMS with SiC concentration …

Exploring Relationships Among Environmental And Intrapersonal Variables And Evidence-Based Practice Implementation, Amanda N. Canada Dec 2019

Exploring Relationships Among Environmental And Intrapersonal Variables And Evidence-Based Practice Implementation, Amanda N. Canada

Nursing Theses and Dissertations

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is not consistently implemented within healthcare settings; although many organizations claim it is how they deliver care in the 21st century. In a review of the literature, multiple intrapersonal variables were found to impact the inconsistency with which EBP is applied and the success of its implementation within nursing practice. Organizational culture and perceived stress can influence the uptake of EBP beliefs and can affect EBP implementation. Clinicians who have more confidence in their EBP knowledge and skills are expected to implement best practices. Underpinned by Social Cognitive Theory, a model was developed to guide study …

Multi-Touch Books In Higher Education: A Study Of Educational Leadership And Policy For Schools Of Education, Jason M. Cascio Dec 2019

Multi-Touch Books In Higher Education: A Study Of Educational Leadership And Policy For Schools Of Education, Jason M. Cascio

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

Technology points to gaps in higher education adoption of learning technologies where decisions are based on a digital tool’s efficacy and unique capabilities, rather than the role they play in effective teaching and learning (Grush, 2019). Higher Education institutions and their faculty postpone technical decision-making. This results in an educational system ill-equipped to meet the needs of students, faculty, and sufficient digital fluency of graduates and the workforce. By integrating current, interactive tools into teaching materials, such as multi-touch books, or iBooks, faculty can meet their students’ learning needs, thereby improving competencies and ability to track their assessment and engagement …
