Utilizing Spectral Sensor Data And Location Data To Determine The Lighting Conditions Of A Scene, Jinglun Gao, Szepo Robert Hung, Gang Sun

Defensive Publications Series

This publication describes methods, implemented on an image-capturing device, to utilize spectral sensor data and location data to determine the lighting conditions of a scene. In aspects, an image capture manager implemented on the image-capturing device aggregates and fuses spectral sensor data and location data. A machine-learned (ML) model implemented on the image-capturing device analyzes the fused data and determines the lighting conditions of the scene. Using the determined lighting condition, a camera application implemented on the image-capture device adjusts camera settings (e.g., white balance, exposure) to enable a user to take higher-quality photographs.

Identifying Fingerprint Spoofs Using Skin Properties, Jean-Marie Bussat, Firas Sammoura Dec 2019

Identifying Fingerprint Spoofs Using Skin Properties, Jean-Marie Bussat, Firas Sammoura

Defensive Publications Series

Optical fingerprint sensors enable seamless authentication and bezel-less displays by directly integrating a fingerprint sensor under the display screen of a device such as a smartphone. While conventional optical fingerprint sensors provide a convenient authentication technique, such sensors can be insecure due to the ease of generating and using spoofs that pass the authentication test. This disclosure describes techniques that utilize various skin properties to detect spoofs. Non-uniform illumination from the sensor interacts with the 3D structure of the finger and produces brightness variation that can be utilized to detect spoofs. Further, skin properties such as ridge-valley distance, skin deformation …

Automatic Network Device Identification Using Identifiers Of Contacted Servers, Jan Kohout

Defensive Publications Series

This proposal provides techniques for a system to identify network devices (e.g., classify their types, operating system families, etc.) based on information associated with contacted servers. In some implementations, the system may be designed to include an auto-update mechanism that enables the system to adapt to changing behavior of devices automatically. Thus, only initial labeled seeds may be needed to initialize the system, which may then automatically adapt itself without manual retraining.

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

Understanding how space weather phenomenon affects daily life has been a main focus of space weather studies. In particular, identifying the relationship between solar activities, ionospheric irregularities and consequently ionospheric scintillation has inspired numerous research efforts. Geomagnetic storms fueled by solar activities cause ionospheric irregularities. Ionospheric scintillation occurs when radio signals travel through these irregularities and experience rapid fluctuations in radio signal phase and amplitude. Such fluctuations have great consequences in radio wave based technology such as the Global Position system(GPS) as it causes a loss of lock. Therefore, through the implantation of two GPS Receivers, continuous data was obtained …
