Search For Physics Beyond The Standard Model In Events With Overlapping Photons And Jets, A. M. Sirunyan
Search For Physics Beyond The Standard Model In Events With Overlapping Photons And Jets, A. M. Sirunyan
Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications
Results are reported from a search for new particles that decay into a photon and two gluons, in events with jets. Novel jet substructure techniques are developed that allow photons to be identified in an environment densely populated with hadrons. The analyzed proton-proton collision data were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, in 2016 at √s = 13 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The spectra of total transverse hadronic energy of candidate events are examined for deviations from the standard model predictions. No statistically significant excess is observed over the expected …

Long-Term Follow-Up Of Patients With Mantle Cell Lymphoma (Mcl) Treated With The Selective Bruton’S Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Tirabrutinib (Gs/Ono-4059), Sa Rule, G Cartron, C Fegan, F Morschhauser, Et Al
Peninsula Medical School
To the Editor: Recent therapeutic advances for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) include inhibitors of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK), a critical component in the B-cell receptor signaling pathway [1, 2]. Remarkably, approximately two thirds of patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) MCL treated with ibrutinib, the first-in-class BTK inhibitor, achieve a durable response [3–5]. However, ibrutinib treatment also commonly produces off-target adverse events (AEs) such as bleeding, atrial fibrillation, diarrhea, and infection. Second-generation BTK inhibitors with greater selectivity include tirabrutinib (GS/ONO-4059), acalabrutinib, and BGB-3111 [6]. In 2017, acalabrutinib received FDA approval for the treatment of MCL based on a complete response (CR) rate …

Sex Differences In Cognitive Changes In De Novo Parkinson’S Disease, Ece Bayram, Sarah J. Banks, Guogen Shan, Nikki Kaplan, Jessica Z.K. Caldwell
Environmental & Global Health Faculty Research
Objective: To evaluate the sex differences in cognitive course over 4 years in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) compared to controls. Methods: Four-year longitudinal cognitive scores of 257 cognitively intact PD, 167 PD-MCI, and 140 controls from the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative were included. Longitudinal scores of men and women, and PD with and without MCI were compared. Results: Women had better verbal memory, men had better visuospatial function. There was no interaction between sex, diagnostic group, and/or time (4-year follow-up period). Conclusions: Sex differences in cognitive course in de novo PD are similar …
Baseball Hall Of Fame Vote, Richard C. Crepeau
Baseball Hall Of Fame Vote, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
It was a little over a week ago that I read a small notice about the Baseball Hall of Fame voting for the class of 2020. Those on the ballot were listed, and as always the name of Marvin Miller was on that list. I skimmed over that name muttering to myself something like, “yea, sure, fat chance.” And that would be the end of it for another year. If there was one sure thing, betting that Marvin Miller would be rejected by Hall of Fame voters for the eighth time, was it.
The Ethics Of Resisting Immigration Law, Javier S. Hidalgo
The Ethics Of Resisting Immigration Law, Javier S. Hidalgo
Jepson School of Leadership Studies articles, book chapters and other publications
States heavily restrict immigration, and many people violate these restrictions. For example, unauthorized immigrants cross borders without official permission, and other actors, such as people smugglers, assist them in doing so. How should we evaluate resistance to immigration law from a moral perspective? In this article, I survey recent work on the ethics of resisting immigration law. In particular, I examine three categories of resistance to immigration law as the following: unauthorized immigration, people smuggling, and citizens' resistance to laws that prohibit them from assisting or interacting with unauthorized immigrants.
Muscle Synergy Adaptation During A Novel Postural Stabilization Task, Rajat Emanuel Singh
Muscle Synergy Adaptation During A Novel Postural Stabilization Task, Rajat Emanuel Singh
Theses and Dissertations
Background: In human postural studies, it is believed that low dimensional motor modules are combined to simplify the movement. These lower dimensional modules are termed as muscle synergies (MS). Therefore, understanding MS evoked by postural perturbation may provide us the specific muscle co-activation pattern for stability. Research Aim: The scope of our study is to identify synergies associated with postural stability while walking on a perturbing platform and study the effect of different proficiency levels on their size and structure. Methodology: We asked nine human participants to walk overground and on a slackline to study task-specific modulation of synergy structures. …
Application Of Ground-Based Lidar And Gap Intercept Measurements To Quantify A Shrub Configuration Metric Within Greater Sage-Grouse Nesting Habitat, Khodabakhsh Zabihi, Kenneth L. Driese, Ginger B. Paige, Ann L. Hild
Application Of Ground-Based Lidar And Gap Intercept Measurements To Quantify A Shrub Configuration Metric Within Greater Sage-Grouse Nesting Habitat, Khodabakhsh Zabihi, Kenneth L. Driese, Ginger B. Paige, Ann L. Hild
Western North American Naturalist
Vegetation composition (i.e., relative proportion of species) and configuration (i.e., horizontal and vertical arrangement of the plant components) in sagebrush-steppe ecosystems are fundamental determinants of the suitability of nesting habitat for Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus). The spatial arrangement of shrub and herbaceous canopy cover conceals Greater Sage-Grouse from predators and protects the nest from natural hazards, and gaps in vegetative cover provide escape routes for hens. Most sage-grouse habitat studies quantify vegetation composition, but few quantify habitat configuration at fine scales. We used ground-based lidar (light detection and ranging) data from Greater Sage-Grouse nesting habitat to test the …
Accrual Accounting And The Farm Business, Part Ii, Timothy Meyer
Accrual Accounting And The Farm Business, Part Ii, Timothy Meyer
Cornhusker Economics
My last Cornhusker Economics article, Accounting Assumptions and the Farm Business (October 16, 2019) set the foundation for a specific evaluation of the conceptual framework accrual accounting offers the farm or ranch manager. The article addressed cash accounting and hinted at its shortfalls which were rectified by accrual accounting. This article will explain conceptual frameworks, and two accrual accounting principles; namely the revenue recognition principle and the matching principle.
During one of my graduate school experiences, I encountered a professor who seemed to be in love with conceptual frameworks. I chose a framework and tried to use it as instructed, …

Energy Performance Certification: Misassessment Due To Assuming Default Heat Losses, Ciara Ahern, Brian Norton
Energy Performance Certification: Misassessment Due To Assuming Default Heat Losses, Ciara Ahern, Brian Norton
Articles
Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are issued when dwellings are constructed, sold or leased in the EU. Where the cost of obtaining the required data is prohibitive, EPC assessors use nationally applicable default-values. To ensure that dwellings are not assigned a wrongly-higher EPC rating, a standardised thermal bridging transmittance coefficient (Y-value) is typically adopted for all existing dwellings while worst-case overall heat loss coefficients (U-values) are used. Default U-values are applied to a specific building element type (roof, wall, floor etc.) based on building codes and regulations applicable at time of construction. Due to significant building fabric upgrades, default U-values are …

Recommendations Regarding Q-Matrix Design And Missing Data Treatment In The Main Effect Log-Linear Cognitive Diagnosis Model, Rui Ma
Theses and Dissertations
Diagnostic classification models used in conjunction with diagnostic assessments are to classify individual respondents into masters and nonmasters at the level of attributes. Previous researchers (Madison & Bradshaw, 2015) recommended items on the assessment should measure all patterns of attribute combinations to ensure classification accuracy, but in practice, certain attributes may not be measured by themselves. Moreover, the model estimation requires large sample size, but in reality, there could be unanswered items in the data. Therefore, the current study sought to provide suggestions on selecting between two alternative Q-matrix designs when an attribute cannot be measured in isolation and when …
