Abstract: In view of the disordered and lost packets problems in intelligent transportation system, this paper studies the cooperative control technology of autonomous driving vehicle and proposes an autonomous platoon-driving model based on Zero Order Hold (ZOH) information processing mechanism. A dedicated nonlinear state estimation algorithm is used to compensate for the delay so the platoon-driving model remains valid under the complex vehicle driving environments. A real autonomous driving platoon is tested in a vehicle proving ground for cooperative driving. The analysis of the experimental data and simulation results based on the real networked autonomous driving system verified the stability, …

A Dorsal Hand Vein Extraction Algorithm For Region Of Interest, Li Qi, Jianjiang Cui, Dingyu Xue, Hongyu Geng
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The rotation and translation of dorsal hand result in deviation, which brings interference during recognizing valid region when collecting dorsal hand vein image. In order to locate valid recognition area quickly, an extraction algorithm for region of interest based on maximum inscribed circle is proposed in view of the characteristics of the collected image. For the collected dorsal hand vein image, this algorithm calculates the center of the maximum inscribed circle and the center of mass, and the rotation angle of the dorsal hand is calculated. The position of the dorsal hand vein image is corrected and the recognition …

Simulation And Analysis On The Moving Performance Of Quiet Zone On Compact Antenna Test Range, Liwei Guo, Simin Li, Ma Jing, Peng Lin, Jiang Xing
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) is an important equipment for Radar-Cross Section test. In order to generate an approximate Uniform Plane Wave (UPW) illuminating environmentand satisfy far field conditions of antenna measurement, the quiet zone scanning of the compact antenna test range is studied by controlling the phase of the array feeding. When the three-tuple array feed and the 2×2 array feed are simulated and only phase changes, the array feed beam scanning is controlled to realize the quiet zone scanning characteristics. The movement characteristics of the quiet zone for the compact antenna test range is analyzed. The movement of …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The stability of conducting fluid flow in ducts under magnetic field is vital to materials preparation and the design and operation of thermonuclear fusion cooling system. A model of MHD duct flow which is known as Hunt’s flow is simulated by non-normal mode stability analysis in this study.. The amplification and distribution of optimal primary perturbations are obtained by solving iteratively the direct and adjoint governing equations with respect of the perturbation variables. Four modes of perturbations with different symmetries in the space are considered, and the effect of the low-intensity magnetic field is also taken into …

Research On Urban Rail Transit Route Choice Decision Based On The Improved Imperialist Competition Algorithm, Xiaofeng Lian, Ye Lu, Wang Yan, Limin Jia, Huiru Ma
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: This paper proposes a method of passenger route selection based on the imperialist competition improvement algorithm (FAST-ICA) to improve the efficiency of passenger route selection. Six key factors influencing the choice of passenger route are selected. On this basis, the generalized travel cost function is constructed and the passenger route selection model is established. By improving the imperial competition way in the imperialist competition algorithm (ICA), the weakest imperial groups are quickly divided up in each iteration of ICA algorithm to accelerate the convergence rate. Based on the proposed FAST-ICA algorithm, the problem of passenger choice in different environments …

Freirean Pedagogy In Music Education, Tyler Slamkowski
Freirean Pedagogy In Music Education, Tyler Slamkowski
Music ETDs
This is a qualitative, multiple case study rooted in grounded theory. It explores how music teachers might implement Paulo Freire’s theories in their classrooms, as well as best practices in Freirean music teaching. Paulo Freire was a Brazilian educational theorist who claimed that education, rooted in dialogue and co-creation of knowledge, could confront major structural injustices, such as inequality, exploitation, and violence.
The three participants in this study worked in the same large, Southwestern district. Participants were selected based on how their teaching fit with characteristics of Freirean Pedagogy. Three music educators, Robert, Eliza, and Jackie, the participants in this …
“Tell Me, Bambi Or Yogi Ever Hunt You Back?” The Windigo Myth: A Metaphor For Imperialism And Mental Illness, Christine Carlough
“Tell Me, Bambi Or Yogi Ever Hunt You Back?” The Windigo Myth: A Metaphor For Imperialism And Mental Illness, Christine Carlough
Senior Capstone Theses
The Canadian indigenous myth of the windigo, originating from Algonquian-speaking tribes of the subarctic Northeast like Ojibwe and Cree, is a manifestation for a multitude of fears. This myth originated hundreds of years ago in order to explain the horror and lack of understanding of a mental illness, which would later be known as Windigo Psychosis. Windigo Psychosis is a culture-bound syndrome for an insatiable desire to consume human flesh. A culture-bound syndrome is recognizable and unique only within a specific society or culture, so in other words, Windigo Psychosis is specific to this area in Canada due to a …

ETSU Faculty Works
Extensive research into women's collegiate soccer is scarce, leaving gaps in the literature with little information available detailing the physical demands at different standards of play. Our purpose was to elucidate the physical demands of the Division I collegiate level and identify differences between playing positions. Twenty-three field players were observed during four competitive seasons using 10-Hz GPS units (Catapult Sports, Melbourne, Australia). Descriptive statistics and 95% confidence intervals were used to determine group and position-specific physical demands. Linear mixed modelling (LMM) was used to compare attacker, midfielder, and defender position groups. Total distance, high-speed distance, and sprint distance were …
Nof Kdumim: Remaking The Ancient Landscape In East Jerusalem’S National Parks, Irus Braverman
Nof Kdumim: Remaking The Ancient Landscape In East Jerusalem’S National Parks, Irus Braverman
Journal Articles
This article explores two national parks in East Jerusalem and their legal administration as the focus of contradictory and complementary attempts at preservation, colonization, and normalization. Drawing on in-depth interviews with, and observations of, officials from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and others, I expose the Judaizing of the landscape in Jerusalem. Nature never stands for itself; it is always an echo of a human presence and, in this case, of a Jewish past and its modern reunion. The project of imagining the natural landscape as one that embodies an ancient past—what Israeli officials have referred to in our …
A Hyperspectral Image Classification Approach To Pigment Mapping Of Historical Artifacts Using Deep Learning Methods, Di Bai
Theses
Hyperspectral image (HSI) classification has been used to identify material diversity in remote sensing images. Recently, hyperspectral imaging has been applied to historical artifact studies. For example, the Gough Map, one of the earliest surviving maps of Britain, was imaged in 2015 using a hyperspectral imaging system while in the collection at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The collection of the HSI data was aimed at pigment analysis for the material diversity of its composition and potentially the timeline of its creation. Traditional methods used spectral unmixing and the spectral angle mapper to classify features in HSIs of historical artifact, …
Low-Rank Multivariate General Linear Model With Relationship Between Brain Regions And Time Points, Ge Song
Low-Rank Multivariate General Linear Model With Relationship Between Brain Regions And Time Points, Ge Song
Theses
The human brain is hard to study and analysis, not because of the complexity of the brain structure, such as neurons and neurons connections, but also because of the complexity of the brain activities. Since in different scales, for example, different time series, different physical senses, the measurements of the human brain activities can be varied. Tring to measure the brain regions relationships in person, the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is one of the methods. The focus of this paper is on analyzing human brain regions relationships in different time domains and different scans of fMRI by using low-rank …

Image-Based Localization Of User-Interfaces, Riti Gupta
Master's Projects
Image localization corresponds to translating the text present in the images from one language to other language. The aim of the project is to develop a methodology to translate the text in image captions from English to Hindi by taking context of the images into account. A lot of work has been done in this field [22], but our aim was to explore if the accuracy can be further improved by consideration of the additional information imparted by the images apart from the text. We have explored Deep Learning using neural networks for this project. In particular, Recurrent Neural Networks …

Background: Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial solid tumor found in children. The frequent gain/loss of many chromosome bands in tumor cells and absence of mutations found at diagnosis suggests that NB is a copy number-driven cancer. Despite the previous work, a systematic analysis that investigates the relationship between such frequent gain/loss of chromosome bands and patient prognosis has yet to be implemented. Methods: First, we analyzed two NB CNV datasets to select chromosomal bands with a high frequency of gain or loss. Second, we applied a computational approach to infer sample-specific CNVs for each chromosomal band selected in …

Integrated Species–Phenon Trees: Visualizing Infraspecific Diversity Within Lineages, Abdullah Khan Zehady, Barry G. Fordham, James G. Ogg
Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund
The unprecedented detail with which contemporary molecular phylogenetics are visualizing infraspecific relationships within living species and species complexes cannot as yet be reliably extended into deep time. Yet paleontological systematics has routinely dealt in (mainly) morphotaxa envisaged in various ways to have been components of past species lineages. Bridging these perspectives can only enrich both. We present a visualization tool that digitally depicts infraspecific diversity within species through deep time. Our integrated species–phenon tree merges ancestor–descendant trees for fossil morphotaxa (phena) into reconstructed phylogenies of lineages (species) by expanding the latter into “species boxes” and placing the phenon trees inside. …

Candida species are a leading source of healthcare infections globally. The limited number of antifungal drugs combined with the isolation of Candida species, namely C. albicans and C. auris, exhibiting resistance to current antifungals necessitates the development of new therapeutics. The present study tested 85 synthetic phenylthiazole small molecules for antifungal activity against drug-resistant C. albicans. Compound 1 emerged as the most potent molecule, inhibiting growth of C. albicans and C. auris strains at concentrations ranging from 0.25–2μg/mL. Additionally, compound 1 inhibited growth of other clinically-relevant yeast (Cryptococcus) and molds (Aspergillus) at a concentration as low as 0.50μg/mL. Compound 1 …

There has been recent debate on the potential difference in physiological response between exposure to simulated altitude (normobaric hypoxia) and terrestrial altitude (hypobaric hypoxia). Purpose: To determine the difference in the physiological response to normobaric and hypobaric hypoxia during exercise. Methods: Eight recreationally active subjects (27 ± 5 y old, 73.1 ± 7.4 kg body weight, 170.6 ± 6.7 cm height, and 19.3 ± 9.2 % body fat) completed incremental cycling exercise to volitional fatigue in three separate environments: normobaric normoxia (NN; 350 m), normobaric hypoxia (NH; simulated 3094 m), and hypobaric hypoxia (HH; 3094 m). Heart rate, blood oxygen …
Adversarial Attack On Neural Machine Translation System, Abijith K. P.
Adversarial Attack On Neural Machine Translation System, Abijith K. P.
Master’s Dissertations
Nowadays Deep Neural Network based solutions are deployed to solve numerous tasks. Thus, it has become absolutely important to study the robustness of these systems. Machine Translation is one of the popular applications of Deep Neural Networks. This thesis studies the robustness of Neural Machine Translation systems by generating adversarial examples with the objective to fool the model. Whenever there is a change in the source, i.e. when a word in the input sentence is replaced by an unrelated word, the translation system is supposed to reflect the changes while doing translation. These unwanted invariance learned by the model is …

The Relationship Among Health Locus-Of-Control, Value Of Health, And Health Behavior In Adolescents, Phyllis K. More
Dissertations
This study explores selected personality factors which may explain part of the variance in health behavior in adolescents. Theoretical and empirical evidence suggested that internal health expectancy and high value of health should be related to adolescents' choices of health behavior. Health expectancy was measured by the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scales (Wallston, Wallston & DeVellis, 1978), value of health by the Value Survey (Wallston, Maides & Wallston, 1976), and adolescent health behavior by the Student Lifestyle Survey (McKillip & Taylor, 1979). The Student Lifestyle Survey measures ten components of health behavior as follows: (1) alcohol use, (2) smoking, …
