Retour Et Maintien Durable En Emploi Après Un Trouble Musculosquelettique : Pistes D’Action Pour Le Superviseur, Iuliana Nastasia, Marie-France Coutu, Romain Rives, Jessica Dubé, Sarah Gaspard, Audrey Quilicot

Vaxinsight: An Artificial Intelligence System To Access Large-Scale Public Perceptions Of Vaccination From Social Media, Jingcheng Du Dec 2019

Vaxinsight: An Artificial Intelligence System To Access Large-Scale Public Perceptions Of Vaccination From Social Media, Jingcheng Du

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Vaccination is considered one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. A high vaccination rate is required to reduce the prevalence and incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases. However, in the last two decades, there has been a significant and increasing number of people who refuse or delay getting vaccinated and who prohibit their children from receiving vaccinations. Importantly, under-vaccination is associated with infectious disease outbreaks. A good understanding of public perceptions regarding vaccinations is important if we are to develop effective vaccination promotion strategies. Traditional methods of research, such as surveys, suffer limitations that impede our understanding of …

Applying The Model Of Interrelationship Environments And Outcomes To Simulation For Nurse Leaders To Enhance The Professional Practice Work Environment: Creating A Mile One Nurse Leadership Simulation Toolkit, Alicia Garcia-Cisneros

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

In nursing leadership, defining a culture of accountability is pivotal to ensure patient safety and achieve optimal patient outcomes. Nurse leaders play a significant role in transforming the professional environment, work culture, and professional behavior to deliver the highest-quality patient care. Often, nurse leaders are challenged in developing workplace environments and structures that encourage professional autonomy, advocacy, and culture climates as well as in motivating nursing staff to feel engaged. Despite an abundance of evidence underscoring the importance of staff engagement, a Gallup study revealed that only 30% of U.S. employees and 13% of employees worldwide are engaged in their …

Coaching Nurse Leaders In Conflict Management And Team Building To Improve Retention, Jeanette Black Dec 2019

Coaching Nurse Leaders In Conflict Management And Team Building To Improve Retention, Jeanette Black

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

Abstract

Problem: Retention of assistant nurse managers (ANMs) was identified as a concern from interviews with executive leadership and ANMs employed at a large hospital within a Northern California integrated health system. The nurse leader orientation training was reviewed, with gaps identified in conflict management and team building.

Context: The attrition rate of U.S. nurse managers in 2010 was 8.3%, higher than executive nurse leaders, with replacement costs equal to 75% - 125% of a nurse manager’s salary (Loveridge, 2017). Employee turnover and dissatisfaction due to conflict can have detrimental effects on retention, productivity, morale, and quality of patient care. …

Strengthening The Advanced Practice Clinician Workforce Pipeline Through Preceptor Education And Support, Tarina Levitt-Trujillo

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

Problem: The Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) workforce pipeline is dependent on clinical training opportunities. Clinician providers are encouraged to precept students but rarely are offered support tools to ensure a successful process. Lack of adequate support can result in a suboptimal outcome for the APC students.

Context: Clinician preceptors in a large healthcare organization looking to build a robust APC pipeline to support future patient populations.

Interventions: Preceptor materials were developed and delivered to clinical preceptors to help them successfully precept advanced practice clinician students during their clinical rotations. This material consisted of 20 microlearning modules to help clinicians …

Nurse Manager Succession Planning: Building A Leadership Pipeline For The Future, Katie Stephens Dec 2019

Nurse Manager Succession Planning: Building A Leadership Pipeline For The Future, Katie Stephens

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

Problem. This academic medical center was increasing bed-capacity and needed to hire 12 additional nurse managers (NM) to meet these new requirements. Promoting assistant nurse managers (ANM) to the NM role saves time and money, supports leadership and cultural continuity, and demonstrates a strong organizational commitment to internal human capital.

Context. Formal nurse manager succession planning (NMSP) programs have been shown to increase nurse manager competency and retention rates, while also helping to identify and develop new generations of nurse leaders. To mitigate the recent loss of ANMs and strengthen the remaining leadership bench strength, the organization is developing, implementing, …

Exact Isovector Pairing In A Shell-Model Framework: Role Of Proton-Neutron Correlations In Isobaric Analog States, M. E. Miora, K. D. Launey, D. Kekejian, F. Pan, J. P. Draayer

Faculty Publications

We utilize a nuclear shell model Hamiltonian with only two adjustable parameters to generate, for the first time, exact solutions for pairing correlations for light to medium-mass nuclei, including the challenging proton-neutron pairs, while also identifying the primary physics involved. In addition to single-particle energy and Coulomb potential terms, the shell model Hamiltonian consists of an isovector T=1 pairing interaction and an average proton-neutron isoscalar T=0 interaction, where the T=0 term describes the average interaction between nonpaired protons and neutrons. This Hamiltonian is exactly solvable, where, utilizing three to seven single-particle energy levels, we reproduce experimental data for 0+ state …

Understanding The Mechanism Of Stress Mitigation In Selenium-Doped Germanium Electrodes Via A Reaction-Diffusion Phaseield Model, Xiao Wang Dec 2019

Understanding The Mechanism Of Stress Mitigation In Selenium-Doped Germanium Electrodes Via A Reaction-Diffusion Phaseield Model, Xiao Wang

Theses and Dissertations

Recent experiments revealed micrometer (µm)-sized Selenium (Se)-doped Germanium (Ge) particles forming a network of inactive phase (Li-Ge-Se) bring superior performance in cycling stability and capacity over un-doped Ge particles. Therefore, based on two states of Li (one for diffusion and another for alloyed reaction), a phaseield model (PFM) is developed incorporating both chemical reaction and Li diffusion to investigate remaining elusive underpinning mechanism. The reaction-diffusion PFM enables us to directly determine the conditions under which the lithiation process is diffusion- and/or reaction-controlled. Moreover, coupling the elasto-plastic deformation, the model allows us to investigate the role of the inactive phase in …

New York is inching closer to marijuana legalization. It's often touted as a tax revenue boost for states and a fast-moving industry to be cashed in on. But who gets to have access to those benefits? Advocates are working to make sure that communities hurt by marijuana prohibition have the option and pathway to build businesses in the legal marijuana market. Small farmers are looking to grow marijuana, some hoping to take apply what they've learned about and benefited from, cultivating hemp. What's clear in a quickly evolving industry in other states is that there's no golden standard for accessibility. …

Capstones

More than half of New York City’s 1.1 million students attend an over-utilized school, where the number of students enrolled exceeds the official capacity. But for years, the School Construction Authority has been slow to identify and acquire sites to build new schools. When City Council ordered a task force to review nearly 30,000 potential sites, the SCA excluded parent representatives from the analysis process, then reported that only two sites could potentially be used for schools. Though the SCA contracts with commercial real estate brokers to identify sites, the agency has declined to specify how many sites the brokers …

The Academy once again came under fire. This time for banning a commercial that advertised a postpartum support. People all over the country became enraged. The Academy seemed more friendly to movies about murder than postpartum, in alignment with the sexist ideas that have been pervasive in this country since its foundations. This short documentary pushes back against this narrative and the silence around postpartum by showing the realities of it through a woman’s journey.

The film is a personal documentary about myself. After having my first child, I found myself traumatized and scarred by the pains of postpartum. Because …

Students With Mental Health Disabilities Suffer From Discrimination Across College Campuses, Abigail Nequa Napp

Capstones

Over the course of several months, we investigated and reported on how colleges and universities have been discriminating against students with mental health disabilities. We FOIA'd the Department of Education for a history of pending and resolved cases (from 2008 - November 2019) to uncover violations committed by colleges. In several instances, institutions discriminated and punished students instead of accommodating their mental health disabilities as required by law. We also reviewed recent lawsuits involving students against universities that focused on punitive leave of absence policies as well as wrongful death suits. This revealed further inefficiencies, deficiencies and tragedy in the …
