Association Between Rotator Cuff Muscle Size And Glenoid Deformity In Primary Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis, Alexander W Aleem, Peter N Chalmers, Daniel Bechtold, Adam Z Khan, Robert Z Tashjian, Jay D Keener Jan 2019

Association Between Rotator Cuff Muscle Size And Glenoid Deformity In Primary Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis, Alexander W Aleem, Peter N Chalmers, Daniel Bechtold, Adam Z Khan, Robert Z Tashjian, Jay D Keener

Open Access Publications

BACKGROUND: Although glenoid morphology has been associated with fatty infiltration of the rotator cuff in arthritic shoulders, the association of rotator cuff muscle area with specific patterns of glenoid wear has not been studied. The purpose of our study was to assess the associations of glenoid deformity in primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis and rotator cuff muscle area.

METHODS: A retrospective study of 370 computed tomographic (CT) scans of osteoarthritic shoulders was performed. Glenoid deformity according to the modified Walch classification was determined, and retroversion, inclination, and humeral-head subluxation were calculated using automated 3-dimensional software. Rotator cuff muscle area was measured on …

Interdisciplinary Handover Between Obstetric Nursing And Neonatal Physician Teams: An Observational Study, Anshul Arora, Thomas Kannampallil, Joanna Abraham Jan 2019

Interdisciplinary Handover Between Obstetric Nursing And Neonatal Physician Teams: An Observational Study, Anshul Arora, Thomas Kannampallil, Joanna Abraham

Open Access Publications

Objective: We investigated the content and quality of communication of interservice interprofessional handover between obstetric nurses and neonatal physicians for high-risk deliveries.

Design: Observational study.

Setting: Labour and delivery unit at a tertiary care hospital.

Method: We audio-recorded handovers between obstetric and neonatal teams (n=50) and conducted clinician interviews (n=29). A handover content framework was developed and used to qualitatively code missing core and ancillary content and their potential for adverse events.

Results: 26 (52%) handovers missed one or more clinical content elements; a third of the handovers missed at least one core clinical content element. Increase in the number …

Temperament And Character Profiles Of Medical Students Associated With Tolerance Of Ambiguity And Perfectionism, Janni Leung, C Robert Cloninger, Barry A Hong, Kevin M Cloninger, Diann S Eley Jan 2019

Temperament And Character Profiles Of Medical Students Associated With Tolerance Of Ambiguity And Perfectionism, Janni Leung, C Robert Cloninger, Barry A Hong, Kevin M Cloninger, Diann S Eley

Open Access Publications

Background: Certain personal attributes, such as perfectionism and tolerance of ambiguity, have been identified as influential in high achieving students. Medical students have been identified as high achievers and perfectionistic, and as such may be challenged by ambiguity. Medical students undertake a long and challenging degree. Personality has been shown to influence the well-being and coping and may equip some students to better cope with challenges. This paper examines the association between temperament and character personality profiles with measures of tolerance of ambiguity and with both adaptive and maladaptive constructs of perfectionism.

Methods: A self-report questionnaire collected data on a …

Understanding The Experience Of Psychopathology After Intimate Partner Violence: The Role Of Personality, Paulo A S Moreira, Márcia Pinto, C. Robert Cloninger, Daniela Rodrigues, Carlos Fernandes Da Silva Jan 2019

Understanding The Experience Of Psychopathology After Intimate Partner Violence: The Role Of Personality, Paulo A S Moreira, Márcia Pinto, C. Robert Cloninger, Daniela Rodrigues, Carlos Fernandes Da Silva

Open Access Publications

Objectives: To fully understand the dynamics of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) it is necessary to understand the role of personality. The current understanding of which personality characteristics are associated with IPV victimization is, however, far from comprehensive. Given this gap in the literature, our objective was to examine the associations between the dimensions of the psychobiological model of personality and psychopathological symptoms in women who had experienced IPV.

Methods: Using a case-control design, a group of women who had experienced IPV and who were living in shelters (

Results: Victims of IPV showed significantly higher levels of Harm Avoidance and …

BACKGROUND: This study intends to develop an efficient field-in-field (FiF) planning technique with the Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS) to determine the feasibility of using the Halcyon treatment delivery system for 3D treatment of breast cancer.

METHODS: Ten treatment plans were prepared on the Halcyon treatment planning system and compared to the same patients' clinically delivered TrueBeam plans which used flattened 6 MV and 10 MV beams. Patients selected for this study were treated via simple, tangential breast irradiation and did not receive radiotherapy of the supraclavicular or internal mammary lymph nodes. Planning target volumes (PTV) volumes ranged from 519 …

Traditionally, electronics have been designed with static form factors to serve designated purposes. This approach has been an optimal direction for maintaining the overall device performance and reliability for targeted applications. However, electronics capable of changing their shape, flexibility, and stretchability will enable versatile and accommodating systems for more diverse applications. Here, we report design concepts, materials, physics, and manufacturing strategies that enable these reconfigurable electronic systems based on temperature-triggered tuning of mechanical characteristics of device platforms. We applied this technology to create personal electronics with variable stiffness and stretchability, a pressure sensor with tunable bandwidth and sensitivity, and a …
