Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) research and development and applications have witnessed unprecedented levels of growth in the past two decades. Although military applications have dominated the market, it is anticipated and expected that civilian and public domain applications will be dominant in the future. Consequently, gradual and timely integration of unmanned aviation into the National Airspace System (NAS) is a real challenge, and roadmaps towards achieving full integration are already in place in the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and European Union (EU). In Search Of China’S First Library: Materials, Housing And Arrangement, Junli Diao

Historically, the origin of libraries has an intimate association with written records supporting administrative or ritual functions at the palace or temple. This article attempts to discuss the possibility of the existence of China’s first library in the Shang dynasty (c.1570-1045 BCE) during the beginning of the formative period of Chinese civilization. The article analyzes and synthesizes both paleographical and archaeological evidence from the perspective of available materials, houses, and arrangement, which answers the questions of what the books were made of, where they were stored, and how they were arranged. Optimum Arrangement Of Navy Ship Equipment For Radar Cross Section Reduction, Joon-Tae Hwang, Suk-Yoon Hong, Jee-Hun Song, Hyun-Wung Kwon

Multiple reflections on navy ship equipment cause unexpectedly high radar cross-section (RCS) distributions based on the location of each equipment on the ship. No RCS reduction method has been considered to date because the directions of reradiated electromagnetic waves are difficult to predict. In this study, an equipment arrangement design system for navy ships was developed to minimize RCS to reduce the radar detection range of naval ships by the enemy. To minimize the possibility of operating range interferences among equipment, optimal equipment arrangement areas and operation ranges were determined with reference to real navy ships. “They Were Playing Chicken”—The U.S. Asiatic Fleet’S Gray-Zone Deterrence Campaign Against Japan, 1937–40, Hunter Stires

The current environment is not the first time the United States has faced a destabilizing challenge in the western Pacific. In 1937, Japanese forces in China undertook a campaign to expel U.S., British, and other Western interests from that country as part of imperial Japan’s effort to dominate East Asia. The gray-zone tactics used during the Japanese campaign of 1937–40, and the deterrence actions of the U.S. Asiatic Fleet, can help shed light on the situation in the China Sea today.

In light of current Department of Defense (DoD) priorities to increase the size of the military forces, new strategies must be developed to recruit and retain high-quality personnel with the right expertise to fill the expanding number of open billets. DoD should consider modifying existing policies to address this need, lest serious personnel issues overtake other force priorities.

Maritime mining long has been called on to support various naval strategies. However, shifting objectives and naval priorities call for new analysis. The navies of NATO countries fall into two categories: old and new. The new navies lack modernization and readiness, making them deficient in their contributions to NATO security priorities. Sea blindness is a problem across the spectrum of NATO governments and illuminating this problem is now more important than ever in light of an increasingly aggressive Russia.

"According to Cassidy, the imperial 'show' trials, which began in the 1870s, were a series of 'highly publicized public spectacles that spread the ideas of Russian radicalism even as they condemned the radicals themselves to imprisonment, exile, hard labor, civil death, or execution.'4 They also became a source of 'popular entertainment' that drew large audiences and helped, according Elizabeth A. Globalisation is a process which transformed the world into a single political economy. Africa is one of the continents that is sharply affected by globalisation. This paper examined the impacts of globalisation in consolidating Africa's economic and political dependency and underdevelopment. The problem is globalisation comes up with many opportunities, especially for developing countries, but, Africa failed to utilize the opportunities. The paper is a conceptual paper which used secondary sources of data for analysis and interpretations. Disbelieved Through Millennia: Cassandra As Woman Truth-Teller And Translator, Marissa Lewis

This paper investigates two major characterizations of the mythological figure Cassandra, reading her in Aeschylus’ Agamemnon and Seneca’s Agamemnon as a woman truth-teller and translator. It develops a notion of translation as negotiation of discursive space and breaking open of boundaries, including boundaries between pairs of languages, experiences, times, and places. This sense of translation draws on the reception theory of Charles Martindale and privileges the discursive location of the translator as integral to their translation; a specifically female translator occupies different discursive spaces than her male counterpart due to the social experience of gender. This paper will discuss the processes and methods of relief visualization of LiDAR-derived digital elevation models (DEM’s) and classification of secondary data to identify archaeological remains on the ancient Maya landscape in northwestern Belize. The basis of the research explores various Geographic Information System (GIS) and cartographic techniques to visualize topographical relief. Graphic terrain maps assist archaeologists with predictive settlement patterns. The Relief Visualization Toolbox (RVT 1.3) aids to visualize raster DEM datasets in the predictive identification and interpretation of small-scale archaeological features. This dataset and methodology can be utilized to answer questions of population estimates, mobility costs, and effectiveness …

The following project is in two parts: A series of concept art and illustration pieces surrounding the history of the Osage Nation, and a research paper detailing that history and exploring the process of creating the aforementioned visual pieces. The artworks are designed around an original story set during the 1920s on the Osage reservation, and explore past history of the Osage people as a part of that. The paper also discusses the author’s personal response to the research, and explores themes of ignorance and social justice as the project draws to a close.
