A Performance Edition Of Charles Villiers Stanford's Cello Concerto In D Minor, Patrick Shea Kole
A Performance Edition Of Charles Villiers Stanford's Cello Concerto In D Minor, Patrick Shea Kole
Open Access Dissertations
The following paper appears in conjunction with a video of a lecture recital by Patrick Shea Kole. The subject of this doctoral thesis is a cello concerto by Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). Written in 1879 and orchestrated in 1880, the concerto was not published in the composer's lifetime. The manuscripts resurfaced in 2002, leading to the publication of a critical edition in 2012. The recency of its publication means that cellists are just now becoming aware of this exceptional 19th century concerto. My lecture recital on February 12th 2019 at the Frost School of Music (included here) was the United …
Symbolism In The Allegory: A Look At Apollo’S Lyre, Keri Meinert, Emily Keiner, Anne Bak
Symbolism In The Allegory: A Look At Apollo’S Lyre, Keri Meinert, Emily Keiner, Anne Bak
2019 Festscrift: Claudio Monteverdi's Orfeo
This paper analyzes the symbolic meaning within Monteverdi’s operatic version of the fable of Orpheus, a demigod who has a talent for music. When Orpheus’ bride Eurydice died suddenly from a snake bite, he decides to seek her soul in the Underworld and bring her back to the land of the living. This task does not prove to be as easy for Orpheus as he initially thinks, when he finds himself losing her twice during the course of the five acts. To show how his journey unfolds, and the meaning behind each step, we will develop the symbolic meaning in …

Terrence Mcnally’S Universalizing Model: The Role Of Disability In Andre’S Mother; Lips Together, Teeth Apart; And Love! Valour! Compassion!, Alexa Burnstine
English (MA) Theses
In his works such as Andre’s Mother; Lips Together, Teeth Apart; and Love! Valour! Compassion!, playwright Terrence McNally utilizes categorically gay themes such as homophobia and living with HIV and AIDS in a time when little was understood about the illnesses. For these reasons, McNally critics customarily analyze McNally’s plays with a queer theory lens. This work examines those same topics and others, but with a critical disability lens. Inspired by Robert McRuer’s analytical partnership of queer, AIDS, and disabilities studies, this work assesses McNally’s use of various types of languages and finds the figures who are …

Metastatic Melanoma Of The Gallbladder Presenting As Polyp In Acute Cholecystitis., Nirvana B Saraswat, William B Devoe
Oncology Articles
Malignant melanoma is an aggressive neural crest cell-derived neoplasm with a propensity for metastasis to almost any organ. Gastrointestinal metastasis may manifest as gallbladder polyps. We report a case of metastatic malignant melanoma diagnosed in an 81-year-old male after cholecystectomy performed for acute cholecystitis. Cholecystectomy remains the standard of care for treatment of isolated gallbladder metastasis, especially in the setting of symptomatic disease. Mutation-directed chemotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic modalities serve as efficacious adjunctive therapy in addition to primary surgical resection for this rare condition.
William King, Sir William Petty, And Post-War Ireland (1690–92): Sir Robert Southwell And The Printing Of Political Discourse, P Hinds
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
This article analyses the production of printed political discourse between post-war Ireland and England, in particular Sir Robert Southwell’s leading role in bringing to publication William King’s The State of the Protestants and Sir William Petty’s The Political Anatomy of Ireland in 1691. The questions these two books raised for the settlement of Ireland and for the relationship between the two kingdoms of Ireland and England have become very important for Anglo-Irish political history yet their publication circumstances in 1691 have not been considered. The article argues that studying these circumstances, applying the methods of book history, and analysing carefully …

Intersections: Critical Issues in Education
In this studio submission, Language Education students who took one or more poetry writing courses along with their instructor share one poem draft and critical reflection, noting the political climate of the work co-produced and inquiry regarding the impact of producing creative work as reflexive, critical teacher education scholarship. Together they draw a context and implications for creative and critical teacher education through shared poetry writing.

Michael Field : Decadent Moderns, Sarah Parker, Ana Parejo Vadillo
Michael Field : Decadent Moderns, Sarah Parker, Ana Parejo Vadillo
Ohio University Press Open Access Books
In the last twenty years, Michael Field has emerged as one of the most fascinating poets of the Victorian era. Through their collaborative partnership as “Michael Field,” Katharine Bradley and Edith Cooper engaged in the aesthetic and decadent movements of the fin de siècle, while their poetry and verse drama articulate ideas associated with the New Woman and boldly express queer and lesbian desire. Michael Field: Decadent Moderns extends the focus on these key literary and cultural contexts by emphasizing their continuing significance within twentieth-century literary modernism. Through a series of interdisciplinary essays, this book addresses Michael Field’s energetic engagements …

You Can Leave The Toilet Seat Up, Vicki Austin
You Can Leave The Toilet Seat Up, Vicki Austin
Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog
About four years ago, my husband and I donated more than two-thirds of our worldly possessions to Goodwill and moved a couple of teenagers, one senior bichon, and our adventure-craving selves into a three-bedroom, one bath, 600-square-foot city apartment, complete with a three-flight walk up, no elevator required. We traded privacy for claustrophobic togetherness, mirrored vanities for color-coded shower caddies and an element-proof garage for two very weather susceptible parking spots identified by faded yellow lines. We also gained eighty or so very noisy housemates, for we had moved into a high school boys' dormitory.
