Inflation – Harrod-Balassa-Samuelson Effect In A Dsge Model Setting, Črt Lenarčič
Inflation – Harrod-Balassa-Samuelson Effect In A Dsge Model Setting, Črt Lenarčič
Economic and Business Review
This paper sets up a two-country two-sector dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model that introduces sector specific productivity shocks with quality improvement mechanism of goods. It provides a model-based theoretical background for the Harrod-Balassa-Samuelson phenomenon that describes the relationship between productivity and price inflation within different sectors in a particular economy. Both, the calibrated and the estimated model are able to show that the Harrod-Balassa-Samuelson effect is confirmed by inducing tradable sector productivity shocks as they drive the non-tradable sector price inflation higher than the tradable sector price inflation. By doing this, we overcome the problem that the tradable productivity increase …

Parenting Resources Of Deaf Parents With Hearing Children, Barbara L. Mallory, Jerome D. Schein, Harvey W. Zingle
Parenting Resources Of Deaf Parents With Hearing Children, Barbara L. Mallory, Jerome D. Schein, Harvey W. Zingle
JADARA
Parenting resources and counseling needs of deaf parents with school-aged hearing offspring were explored as part of a larger cross-sectional descriptive study of perceptions of deaf parents' child-rearing performance. Three categories of informant provided research data. Fifteen deaf parent/hearing child dyads were interviewed. Parents also completed short questionnaires. Hearing grandparents, fewer than half of whom live near their deaf adults offspring, responded to mailed surveys. Questionnaires provided quantitative results showing that deaf parents turned more frequently to relatives and friends than to professionals for help with child-rearing problems. Parents identified few and grandparents identified no parenting programs or services suitable …

Unbundling The “Big Deal”: One Library’S Experience In Rising To The Occasion, Susan J. Arnold, Traci J. Mays
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Background:
Budgetary constraints at West Virginia University (WVU) in combination with the impending expiration/renewal of “big deal” contracts forced the WVU Collections Advisory Committee (CAC) to implement the unbundling of three major journal packages. Wiley was the first package unbundled in 2017, followed by Elsevier Science Direct and Springer packages in 2018-19.
Methods:
The CAC determined criteria to use to consider whether or not to keep specific journal titles, including total uses, cost per use, and number of papers published and references used from each title by WVU faculty members over a 3-year period. Journals were ranked for each of …

Journal of Indigenous Research
Despite the violence against Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people occurring at epidemic levels there is little national visibility and data pertaining to the lived experiences of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) individuals and communities. The purpose of this manuscript is to specifically focus on violence regarding the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people with a concentration on human trafficking. AI/AN leaders have identified human trafficking as a major contributor to the disappearance of AI/AN women, girls, and two-spirit people (Department of Justice, 2018). In a trauma-informed intersectional approach we review available data discussing the negative impacts on …

Human Rights And The Smart City, Tina Reuter
Biennial Conference: The Social Practice of Human Rights
This paper examines how technological solutions, information and communication technologies (ICTs), and smart city initiatives can become avenues to produce urban spaces that reflect fundamental human rights values such as non-discrimination, equality, and access for all.Cities today are drivers of human rights activity and serve as hubs for technological advances, political and economic innovation, and social justice. Nevertheless, the inclusion of marginalized communities continues to be a challenge. ICTs and smart city initiatives are often cited to foster urban integration, to improve citizen participation in decision-making processes, and to enhancecommunity resilience. Turning From Deficits To Strengths: Teaching Students A Strength-Based Approach To Clinical Care And Community Health, Anthony Fleg
Turning From Deficits To Strengths: Teaching Students A Strength-Based Approach To Clinical Care And Community Health, Anthony Fleg
HSC Education Days
Asset Mapping is a well-recognized approach to clinical and community health, championed by the fields of social work and public health. In the field of medicine, an approach that is focused on disease, deficits, deficiencies, addictions, etc. is the dominant model, leading to interventions that fail to incorporate strengths that could contribute to the care plan. Strength-based approaches to clinical and community health will improve efficacy of interventions, increase student/provider satisfaction with their work, and is a method toward addressing health inequities. In this presentation, we will explore ways that UNM faculty are utilizing this approach in teaching health-professions students.
