The Effect Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation On Metabolic Changes In A Sedentary Population: A Pilot Study, Michelle Galvan, Jasmin Jenkins, Sudip Bajpeyi
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2015) declared that 80% of U.S. adults do not meet exercise recommendations by ACSM. Skeletal muscle contraction has been shown to increase mitochondrial content (energy production) and glucose uptake (decreased insulin resistance). Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) utilizes electrical impulses to induce muscle contractions and can be used as an alternate strategy to induce muscle contraction in sedentary adults. However, it is not clear if NMES induced muscle contraction may improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of two weeks of NMES on …

Potatoes are a cost-effective option that fulfills these criteria; however, their impact on endurance performance remains unexamined. PURPOSE: Compare the effects of potato purée (POT) ingestion during endurance cycling on subsequent performance versus commercial CHO gel (GEL) or a control (water, CTL). METHODS: Twelve trained cyclists (31±9y; 71±8kg; VO2max: 61±9mL/kg/min) consumed a standardized breakfast then performed a 2h cycling challenge (60-85%VO2max) followed by a time trial (6kJ/kg body mass) while …
Unconstitutional Conditions And The Distribution Of Liberty, Kathleen M. Sullivan
Unconstitutional Conditions And The Distribution Of Liberty, Kathleen M. Sullivan
San Diego Law Review
In this Article, Professor Sullivan postulates that the unconstitutional conditions doctrine is a doctrine in search of a theory. Three theories have been put forth, but have proven unsatisfactory. The author describes the three theories and then suggests an alternative approach. The unconstitutional doctrine is necessary to preserve three distributive functions: (1) checking the power of the state by preserving a private order; (2) imposing obligations of government neutrality among rightholders who, for example, speak, worship, or procreate according to different lights; and (3) barring a system of constitutional caste among rightholders. The alternative approach embodies a distributive analysis of …

Avocado And Flaxseed Oleogels: The Prospect Of A Healthy Saturated Fat Substitute, Breonna Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Juliana R. Ract, Aline Foguel, Heather L. Colleran Dr., Salam Ibrahim, Roberta Silva
The World of Food: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on What We Eat and Grow
Oleogelation is a novel technique that represents the forming of liquid oils into a gel-like structure by entrapping the liquid phase into a thermo-reversible and three-dimensional gel network. There has been a great interest in Oleogelation in many areas like pharmaceutics, food, and cosmetics. Oleogels are used to reduce the saturated and trans fatty acids in foods, making them healthier. The consumption of saturated and trans fatty acids increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases (Pehlivanoglu, Demirci, Toker, 2017). Avocado oil is high in oleic monounsaturated fatty acids and substantial amounts of health beneficial phytochemicals, such as vitamins and phytosterols. Avocado …
