Prevalence Of Anemia In Patients With Type 2 Diabetes, El-Saied Shaheen Jun 2019

Prevalence Of Anemia In Patients With Type 2 Diabetes, El-Saied Shaheen

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) has a high prevalence worldwide. It leads to various complications, including microvascular and macrovascular complications. The nephropathy may undermine the renal production of erythropoietin, positively contributing to an increased anemia framework. The inflammatory situation created by kidney disease also interferes with intestinal iron absorption. Therefore, diabetic patients with kidney disease have higher risk for developing anemia. Aim The aim of this work was to determine the prevalence and various types of anemia in patients with type 2 DM. Patients and methods After obtaining informed written consent, all diabetics as well as control individuals were subjected to …

Recognizing Grave Socio-Economic Rights Abuses As Valid Refugee Claims Under International Refugee Law, Ramy Mohamed Moustafa

Theses and Dissertations

Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizes the right of every person to seek asylum from persecution in other countries. Accordingly, the United Nations adopted the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees in 1951. The Convention, in its first article, sets the definition of the term refugee. It also establishes a criteria that decision makers should follow in order to determine if someone is a refugee. Since the implementation of the Convention, writers and practitioners have regularly been using an approach that maintains a dichotomy between economic migrants and political refugees. This dichotomy is regularly used …

Fostering Adaptive Marine Aquaculture Through Procedural Innovation In Marine Spatial Planning, Robin Kundis Craig

Utah Law Faculty Scholarship

Worldwide, as wild-caught commercial fisheries plateau and human demands for protein increase, marine aquaculture is expanding. Much marine aquaculture is inherently adaptable to changing climatic and chemical conditions. Nevertheless, siting of marine aquaculture operations is subject to competing environmental, economic, and social demands upon and priorities for ocean space, while some forms of marine aquaculture can impose other externalities on marine systems, such as pollution from wastes (nutrients) and antibiotics, consumption of wild fish as food, and introduction of non-native or genetically modified species. As a result, governmental policy decisions to promote both marine aquaculture that can adapt to a …

“The Skills You’Re Developing, They Don’T Go Away”: An Intrinsic Case Study Exploring On-Campus Student Employment As A High Impact Practice, Amanda Salazar

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Many low-income, first-generation college students have no other choice but to work to help offset the costs associated with earning a college degree (Savoca, 2016). Meanwhile, colleges and universities have the opportunity to leverage on-campus employment as a high-impact practice (McClellan, Creager, & Savoca, 2018). High-impact practices (HIPs) are known to increase retention, persistence, and completion (Kuh, 2008). If structured with intentionality and purpose, on-campus jobs can offer low-income, first-generation college students the opportunity to participate in a HIP, while simultaneously earning an income (McClellan et al., 2018).

The purpose of this intrinsic case study was to explore on-campus employment …

Genetic Variation Of Human Leukocyte Antigen (Hla) Alleles Among Rheumatiod Arthritis Patients In Fujairah, Amna Abdulla Harib Al-Dhmanie

Biology Theses

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation that affects the joints. It occurs when the immune system attacks the body's own tissues and organs. The precise cause of RA is not fully understood but evidence suggests that genes, hormones and environmental factors could be involved. It has been established that human leukocyte antigen (HLA) loci is a strong risk factor of RA. Specifically, the shared epitope (SE) region of HLA-DRB1 and variations at position 11 and 13 of HLA-DRB1 and position 77 of HLA-A have shown strong association with RA. The hypothesis of this study was …

The Oral Nitrate-Reducing Capacity Correlates With Peak Power Output And Peak Oxygen Uptake In Healthy Humans., B. Thomas, S. Smallwood, C. Clarke, R. Bescos

School of Health Professions

Interest in inorganic nitrate and nitrite has grown substantially over the past decade as research has revealed the role of these anions in enhancing nitric oxide (NO) availability through an oral pathway. Nitrite synthesis in the mouth seems to be an important mechanism to feed the circulatory system with this anion. This is interesting since greater plasma nitrite concentration has been associated with better fitness levels in humans, but this question has not been investigated in relation to salivary nitrite concentration. Additionally, no previous study has investigated the oral nitrate-reducing capacity in regards to peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) or peak …
