Evaluation Of The Enrichment And Amplification Effect Of Pentachlorobenzene With Lower Bioconcentration In The Food Chain Before And After Modification, Ruihao Sun, Meijin Du, Yu Li
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this paper, in order to construct a 3D quantitative structure--activity relationship (QSAR) model with the chlorobenzene (CB) molecular structure parameter as an independent variable and the octanol-water partition coefficient ($K_{OW})$ as a dependent variable, 9 kinds of CB molecules were used as training sets and 3 kinds of CB molecules were used as test sets. We adopted the QSAR module in the Sybyl-X2.0 software from the Tripos Corporation (USA). The molecular modification of the pentachlorobenzene molecule with low bioconcentration was carried out by combining a three-dimensional contour map and fractional factorial design. The results showed that the toxicity, migration, …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Quaternary ammonium salts are a group of compounds with diverse biological properties, the most important of which are their antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. The quaternization reactions of 5'-$O$-tosyl derivatives of uridine and thymidine with triethylamine, trimethylamine, 4-($N$,$N$-dimethylamino)pyridine, 2-methylpyridine, and pyridine are described in this article. Two of the synthesized compounds are exceptional because they are first of this type that demonstrate concentration-dependent antifungal in vitro activity against two species of the genus Candida in minimal YNB-SG medium. The experimental results have been extended by adding full atom molecular dynamics simulations and substrates and products energies evaluation.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The present study addresses the removal of cadmium ions (Cd(II)) from aqueous solutions at a pH of 7.5 using zeolite-A activated by exposure to oxygen plasma. The activation process was performed over a wide range of plasma powers (10, 20, 30, and 40 W) and exposure times (30 to 360 s). Oxygen plasma cannot chemically modify zeolite to a considerable extent, but it can clean the surface, open blocked pores, and induce the formation of additional OH groups via exposure to humidity in ambient air. Therefore, Cd$^{+2}$ ion removal is increased by approximately 10% with the plasma treatments. Infrared-attenuated total …

Synthesis Of Highly Active Crystalline Carbon Nitride Prepared In Various Salt Melts For Photocatalytic Degradation Of Phenol, Mohd Hayrie Mohd Hatta, Hendrik Oktendy Lintang, Siew Ling Lee, Leny Yuliati
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Crystallinity could have a decisive influence on photocatalytic performance. In this study, the synthesis of crystalline carbon nitride (CN) was studied via an ionic melt polycondensation of urea precursor in the presence of various salt melts, which were KCl-LiCl, KCl-NaCl, and KCl-ZnCl$_{2}$. While all the salt melts helped to improve the optical properties of the CN, only KCl-LiCl salt melt could form crystalline CN as evidenced by its X-ray diffraction pattern. Furthermore, the specific surface area of CN (72 m$^{2}$/g) was maintained when using KCl-LiCl (73 m$^{2}$/g), but it was decreased in the presence of KCl-NaCl (22 m$^{2}$/g) or KCl-ZnCl$_{2}$ …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
1,2-Ethylene-bis(para-methyl pyridinium) dichromate, (C$_{14}$H$_{18}$N$_{2})$[Cr$_{2}$O$_{7}$], is used as a new oxidizing agent in conversion of some alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds in CH$_{3}$CN solvent and also under solvent-free conditions. In both procedures, high conversion percentages are observed. However, a much shorter reaction time is achieved in solvent-free conditions. For allylic alcohols, the C=C bond is not oxidized and the examined saturated alcohol in this work (i.e. cyclo-hexanol) remains intact, which illustrates the mild nature of reagent used. The structure of the reagent is investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The C--H$\cdots$O and O$\cdots \pi$ interactions are the most important features …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Microwave irradiation has been used to improve the one-pot synthesis of substituted 2-amino-4,6-diarylnicoti- nonitrile in the presence of boric acid as an efficient and green catalyst under solvent-free conditions within 48--60 s. All the analogs that have not been reported previously were characterized by their melting points, IR, $^{1}$H NMR, and $^{13}$C NMR spectra. One of the structures was verified by the analysis of a single crystal. The reported synthetic procedure provided remarkable advantages such as short reaction times, excellent yield, facile workup, and the use of a green catalyst.

A series of novel BODIPY-bearing electron-withdrawing groups at the meso position are reported here. According to the optical measurements, it may be clearly seen that the introduction of electron-donating groups into 3,5-positions and the presence of electron-withdrawing groups at the meso position of the BODIPY core resulted in spectacular bathochromic shifts (up to ∼ 304 nm), and the projected photosensitizers had absorption bands in the therapeutic window of the electromagnetic spectrum (600-900 nm). The absorption maxima of compounds 4,5,6, and 7 were at 886 nm, 890 nm, 760 nm, and 761 nm, respectively. The singlet oxygen generation experiments revealed that …

Curcuminoids, reported to have important biological properties, such as antioxidant, anti-Alzheimer, and antidiabetic properties, comprise curcumin (CRM; 1,7-bis [4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl]-1,6-heptadiene-3,5-dione) and its derivatives demethoxycurcumin (DMC; (E,6E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxy-cyclohexyl)-7-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)hepta-1,6-diene-3,5-dione) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC; 1,7-bis[4-hydroxyphenyl]-1,6-heptadiene-3,5-dione). Their electrochemical oxidations are thoroughly explored by applying cyclic and differential pulse voltammetric techniques. The dependence of current intensities and potentials on pH, concentration, scan rate, and nature of the buffer was investigated. The outcome is supported by density functional theory computations indicating the transfer of 4-e$^{-}$/H$^{+}$, 6-e$^{-}$/H$^{+}$, and 8-e$^{-}$/H$^{+}$ couples involved in the oxidation mechanisms of CRM, DMC, and BDMC, respectively, leading to the formation of the same oxidized product.

Novel "Turn Off-On" Sensors For Detection Of Dna-Acrylamide Interaction Using Zns Quantum Dots As A Phosphorescent Probe, Hayri̇ye Eda Şatana Kara
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A novel "turn off-on" sensor for detection of interaction between DNA and acrylamide (ACR) was developed. In this method, L-cysteine capped Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were used as room temperature phosphorescent probes. In the ``turn-off'' mode, ACR was absorbed onto the surface of QDs via electrostatic interaction, which caused a quenching effect of room-temperature phosphorescence signal by photoinduced electron-transfer mechanism. ACR was removed from the QDs' surface with the addition of DNA. Thus, the phosphorescence emission of QDs was recovered and the system was turned to the ``turn-on'' mode. The quenching mechanism of QDs by ACR was collisional (dynamic) …

Two new azo-Schiff base receptors (L$_{{1}}$ and L$_{{2}})$ containing azo and azomethine groups with a conjugated group (benzyl ring of anthranilic acid, in L$_{{1}})$ and electron-donating group (alkyl chain of hexanoic acid, in L$_{{2}})$ were synthesized and characterized. Azo-hydrazone/phenol-keto tautomerism and solvatochromism were investigated. Studying their sensing ability towards cations (Co$^{2+}$, Cu$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$, Ni$^{2+}$, Pb$^{2+}$, Cd$^{2+}$, Mn$^{2+}$, Fe$^{3+}$, Cr$^{3+}$, and Al$^{3+})$, high sensitivity and selectivity were recorded for Fe$^{3+}$ by naked eye and UV-Vis spectra in DMF-aqueous HEPES buffer (v:v, 1:1, pH 6.8). The color of L$_{{1}}$ and L$_{{2}})$ solutions instantly changed from yellow to deep orange and pale orange. …
