Mobile Health Interventions To Promote Physical Activity And Reduce Sedentary Behaviour In The Workplace: A Systematic Review, Sa Buckingham, Aj Williams, K Morrissey, L Price, J Harrison
Mobile Health Interventions To Promote Physical Activity And Reduce Sedentary Behaviour In The Workplace: A Systematic Review, Sa Buckingham, Aj Williams, K Morrissey, L Price, J Harrison
School of Nursing and Midwifery
Objective This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness, feasibility and acceptability of mobile health (mHealth) technology (including wearable activity monitors and smartphone applications) for promoting physical activity (PA) and reducing sedentary behaviour (SB) in workplace settings. Methods Systematic searches were conducted in seven electronic databases (MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, Scopus, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web of Science and the Cochrane library). Studies were included if mHealth was a major intervention component, PA/SB was a primary outcome, and participants were recruited and/or the intervention was delivered in the workplace. Study quality was assessed using the Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) tool. Interventions were …

How Data Science Can Advance Mental Health Research, Tc Russ, E Woelbert, Kas Davis, Jd Hafferty, Et Al
Peninsula Medical School
Accessibility of powerful computers and availability of so-called big data from a variety of sources means that data science approaches are becoming pervasive. However, their application in mental health research is often considered to be at an earlier stage than in other areas despite the complexity of mental health and illness making such a sophisticated approach particularly suitable. In this Perspective, we discuss current and potential applications of data science in mental health research using the UK Clinical Research Collaboration classification: underpinning research; aetiology; detection and diagnosis; treatment development; treatment evaluation; disease management; and health services research. We demonstrate that …
Emergent Regulatory Systems And Their Challenges: The Case Of Combination Medical Products, George Horvath
Emergent Regulatory Systems And Their Challenges: The Case Of Combination Medical Products, George Horvath
Faculty Scholarship
Where regulatory systems overlap, courts and scholars often focus on the undesirable aspects of the overlap—the ways in which systems conflict. One such context involves the regulation of prescription drugs and medical devices by the FDA’s premarket evaluation processes and by state common-law tort and products liability actions. FDA regulation and state common law are often described as separate, conflicting regulatory systems. This Article challenges that description by proposing a model in which FDA premarket evaluation and state common law function as a single regulatory system.
This model brings order to the Supreme Court’s seemingly inconsistent medical products preemption cases, …

BackgroundRefractory depression is a major contributor to the economic burden of depression. Radically open dialectical behaviour therapy (RO DBT) is an unevaluated new treatment targeting overcontrolled personality, common in refractory depression, but it is not yet known whether the additional expense of RO DBT is good value for money.AimsTo estimate the cost-effectiveness of RO DBT plus treatment as usual (TAU) compared with TAU alone in people with refractory depression (trial registration: ISRCTN85784627).MethodWe undertook a cost-effectiveness analysis alongside a randomised trial evaluating RO DBT plus TAU versus TAU alone for refractory depression in three UK secondary care centres. Our economic evaluation, …
