Testosterone Replacement Therapy For The Recovery From Chronic Vestibular Dysfunction Following Repeat Mild Traumatic Brain Injury In Male Long-Evans Hooded Rats, Arthur Segismundo Jan 2019

Testosterone Replacement Therapy For The Recovery From Chronic Vestibular Dysfunction Following Repeat Mild Traumatic Brain Injury In Male Long-Evans Hooded Rats, Arthur Segismundo

Master's Theses

Repeat mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) is a major public health concern leading to both chronic hypogonadism and vestibular impairment. Following rmTBI, vestibular symptoms are one of the most common complaints and hypogonadism occurs in a majority of patients. Gonadal hormones have a well-established role in neuroplasticity and axonal regeneration. The loss of gonadal hormones due to rmTBI may delay recovery. A clinically relevant closed-headed rmTBI male rodent model was utilized to examine the role of testosterone replacement therapy on chronic vestibular dysfunction. This is the first study to demonstrate both hypogonadism and vestibular dysfunction in the acute and chronic …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This research was carried out to estimate the genetic parameters of the body weight traits of the Ghezel sheep using three different random regression models. The used data were 39,288 test-day records collected from 13,378 animals at Ghezel Sheep Breeding Station in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran from 1994 to 2012. Fixed effects in models included type of birth (single, twin) and year of birth (1994-2012). The weight as a function of age in the days of weighting was considered as the fixed regression of orthogonal polynomial. The random effects of the basic model were direct genetic and direct permanent …

Determination Of The Causal Relationship Between Beef Prices And The Consumer Price Index In Turkey, Ahmet Cumhur Akin, Mustafa Bahadir Çevri̇mli̇, Mehmet Saltuk Arikan, Mustafa Agah Teki̇ndal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The rising prices of beef meat have recently restricted its accessibility for consumers who need to consume it for a balanced and healthy diet. Speculations have been made about the increase in beef meat prices being one of the major factors underlying the increase in the consumer price index (CPI). In this scope, the causal relationship between the monthly average prices of beef and the rate of year-on-year change in the CPI for the period between January 2005 and February 2018 was analyzed in the study. Since time series data were used, the augmented Dickey?Fuller and Phillips-Perron tests were conducted …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The reproductive biology of the domestic dog is unique among mammalian species; because of this, in vitro maturation (IVM) rate is still very low compared with other domestic animals in spite of attempts at improvement. The aim of this study was to consider the use of recombinant human gonadotropins as a replacement for pituitary gonadotropins for IVM of dog oocytes. A total of 845 cumulus-oocyte complexes were used in this study. To determine the effects of human recombinant gonadotropins, maturation medium was supplemented with two different concentrations (0.05 or 0.1 IU/mL) of pituitary (pFSH, pLH) and human recombinant (rhFSH and …
