Optimization And Structural Stability Of Gold Nanoparticle–Antibody Bioconjugates, Robert T. Busch, Farzia Karim, John Weis, Yvonne Sun, Chenglong Zhao Sep 2019

Optimization And Structural Stability Of Gold Nanoparticle–Antibody Bioconjugates, Robert T. Busch, Farzia Karim, John Weis, Yvonne Sun, Chenglong Zhao

Chemical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) bound with biomolecules have emerged as suitable biosensors exploiting unique surface chemistries and optical properties. Many efforts have focused on antibody bioconjugation to AuNPs resulting in a sensitive bioconjugate to detect specific types of bacteria. Unfortunately, bacteria thrive under various harsh environments, and an understanding of bioconjugate stability is needed. Here, we show a method for optimizing Listeria monocytogenes polyclonal antibodies bioconjugation mechanisms to AuNPs via covalent binding at different pH values, from 2 to 11, and 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid (MES), 3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid, NaOH, HCl conditions. By fitting Lorentz curves to the amide I and II regions, we …

E-Learning Platform In Saarc Countries, Rajesh Das, Uttam Kumar Hazra, Sinjini Mukherjee Sep 2019

E-Learning Platform In Saarc Countries, Rajesh Das, Uttam Kumar Hazra, Sinjini Mukherjee

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The present paper deals with the e-Learning platform in SAARC countries. There are eight SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Srilanka) but among them only 5 countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Srilanka) have their own e-learning platform for their citizens.

Purpose: To acquire information about each and every e-learning platform which includes name, year of origin, sponsoring authority, aims, subject area covered, learning path, learning quadrant and type of the courses offered by each e-learning platform.

Methodology: e-Learning platforms of each SAARC countries have been studied and filled a questionnaire. The collected data are tabulated …

The Effective Factors On Environmentally Friendly Behavior: A Case Study, Mohammad Hassan Seif, Sareh Nematolahi M.A Sep 2019

The Effective Factors On Environmentally Friendly Behavior: A Case Study, Mohammad Hassan Seif, Sareh Nematolahi M.A

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The interdependence between human and environment manifest the necessity of investigating human impact on environmental degradation or on environmental protection. The present research aims to develop a causal model of effective factors on environmentally friendly behavior among high school students in Shiraz. This is applied research with a descriptive method. Using an adapted questionnaire, we examined the effect of the variables, including environmental concern, attitude, knowledge, subjective norms, responsibility perception, and dependence on nature, on environmentally friendly behavior. The correlation coefficient was used to examine the effect of different variables on each other, and the path analysis method was used …

Porous Bureaucracy: Legitimating The Administrative State In Taiwan, Anya Bernstein Sep 2019

Porous Bureaucracy: Legitimating The Administrative State In Taiwan, Anya Bernstein

Journal Articles

Scholars and politicians have sometimes presented bureaucracy as inherently conflicting with democracy. Notably, bureaucrats themselves are rarely consulted about that relationship. In contrast, I draw on interviews and participant observation to illuminate how government administrators understand their own place in democratic government in Taiwan, one of the few successful third-wave democracies. The administrators I work with root their own legitimacy not in separated powers or autonomous expertise, but in their ongoing collaboration with legislators and publics. They define their own accountability not just as executive legislative mandates but as producing them in the first place, and figure bureaucracy as a …

Collaborative Environmental Chemistry Projects: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia And The Claremont Colleges, Katie Purvis-Roberts Sep 2019

Collaborative Environmental Chemistry Projects: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia And The Claremont Colleges, Katie Purvis-Roberts

EnviroLab Asia

I received a course redevelopment grant from the Claremont Colleges EnviroLab Asia for my Environmental Chemistry (CHEM139) course. This allowed me to add a focus on environmental issues in Asia to the course and, more important, co-teach the class with a colleague at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).Te many results of that cross-Pacific teaching project are the key subject of this reflective essay.

Rock Structures And Their Effect On The Rise Of Salt Concentrations In The Euphrates River (Al-Shamya – Al Kifl Irrigation) Practical Study Using Rs & Gis Techniques, نبراس عباس ياس Sep 2019

Rock Structures And Their Effect On The Rise Of Salt Concentrations In The Euphrates River (Al-Shamya – Al Kifl Irrigation) Practical Study Using Rs & Gis Techniques, نبراس عباس ياس

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

The study deals with investigating the rock formations and their effect on the rise of salt concentrations in the Euphrates River within Diwaniyah and Najaf governorates (Shat Abbasiyah and Kufa), which is located between two latitudes (44°20ˋ00̏-44°40ˋ00̏) East and longitude (31°53‵00‶-32°00‵00‶) north. The aim of the study is to survey the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems techniques in analyzing the effect of the different rock structures in the study area, namely the geological structure, which is due to the deposition of the fourth time, the linear structures, the cracks, the degree of regression and the direction …

Third African Animal Welfare Conference, Andrew N. Rowan

WellBeing News

One of the major themes at the Third Africa Animal Welfare Conference in Addis Ababa in 2019 was the status of donkeys in Africa and the critical support they provide to poor families on the continent. But Chinese demand for ejaio (a gelatin preparation made from donkey hides) is threatening populations of donkeys across Africa.
