Applying Positive Language In Mindful Parenting: A Means Of Building Positive Character In Children, Amrina Rosyada, Agustina Ramadhianti
ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement
Positive language is a crucial communication tool, both within the family environment and in external circumstances. Previous research endeavors have evidenced that the inculcation of positive language by parents is effective in building positive character in their children. Thus, language is not merely a communication tool; it is also a means of personality development. However, this application cannot be realized if parents are unaware. Therefore, the community service activity proposed in this paper aims to broaden and strengthen mindful parenting, and to enhance the discernment of positive language in parents to help them build positive character in their children. To …

The global average sea level is rising at a rate of 3.2 mm per year according to recent observations of the IPCC. One of the main factors in sea level rise is thermal expansion, where greenhouse gases, especially CO2, accumulate and generate heat (climate change), thereby melting glaciers in the polar regions. Two villages in Kampung Bungin Bekasi, Indonesia, have already been experiencing flooding. Climate change can be addressed by environmental conservation and utilization of renewable energy to reduce CO2 production. Environmental conservation can be conducted by planting mangroves, while renewable energy is achieved by using natural renewable resources. Planting …

Over 80% of the Mid-Continent Sandhill Crane (Antigone canadensis) Population (MCP), estimated at over 660,000 individuals, stops in the Central Platte River Valley (CPRV) during spring migration from mid-February through mid-April. Research suggests that the MCP may be shifting its distribution spatially and temporally within the CPRV. From 2002 to 2017, we conducted weekly aerial surveys of Sandhill Cranes staging in the CPRV to examine temporal and spatial trends in their abundance and distribution. Then, we used winter temperature and drought severity measures from key wintering and early migratory stopover locations to assess the impacts of weather patterns …

Sustainability Values Of Students As Influences On The Image Of A University Transitioning To Sustainability, Anna A. Mendiola
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
The journey toward sustainability is a difficult process for a university given the complex requirements necessary for becoming sustainable. To implement sustainability initiatives effectively, therefore, it is important to obtain the support and commitment of university stakeholders. Having a good image as far as the school’s efforts at sustainability are concerned engages stakeholders and encourages that commitment. It is an important element of change as it provides evidence that the school is indeed serious in its activities. Yet is the perception of the school’s image influenced by the students’ sustainability values? A survey of 798 college students at a private …

A Cacophony Of Speech, Law, And Persona: Battling Against The Vortex Of #Metoo In France And The U.S., Anne Wagner, Sarah Marusek
Journal of Civil Law Studies
The pervasive proliferation of rumors, through #MeToo and #BalanceTonPorc, communicates meaningful and meaningless-making processes on misconducts both in the French and U.S. con-texts. Such rumors have transformed the online practices by culti-vating both verbal and non-verbal hate speech free and/or free speech. This cacophony of speech, law, and persona has led to a debate relayed on social media platforms, exposing people to a dan-ger zone mostly based as shame, hate, fear, or even destruction, as anonymity and due process no longer prevail.

The widespread use of the internet has produced both positive and negative impacts. Among the latter is internet addiction (IA). The worldwide prevalence of this addiction has been measured at approximately 6%, although the specific prevalence in Indonesia is uncertain because no validated instrument to measure IA has been developed for the Indonesian context. Hence, screen time was used in this study as an alternative measure of the magnitude of IA in Indonesia, where more than 6 hours is considered risk for IA. Researchers measured internet screen time (IST) and potential related factors in adolescents. The subjects of this cross-sectional …

The Potentials Of Faecal Sludge Treatment Using Local Conditioners In Tanzania: A Review, Doglas Benjamin1
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Worldwide, every day human beings generate millions of tons of Faecal Sludge (FS), which is rich in water, nutrients, energy, and organic compounds. Yet FS is not being managed in a way that permits us to derive value from its reuse, while at the same time, millions of farmers struggle with depleted soils and lack of water. In most of the developing countries, energy for cooking is mainly derived from cutting of trees, either as wood or charcoal. Resource recovery and reuse from FS can create livelihoods, enhance food security, support green economies, reduce waste and contribute to cost recovery …

Monetary Policy Rules And Macroeconomic Stability: Evidence From Sri Lanka, Kesavarajah Mayandy
Monetary Policy Rules And Macroeconomic Stability: Evidence From Sri Lanka, Kesavarajah Mayandy
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study estimates the forward-looking monetary policy reaction function for Sri Lanka using monthly data from 1980 to 2017. The results indicate that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) followed the Taylor rule to set interest rates. Our forwardlooking model estimations show that the coefficient on inflation increases over time, reflecting the greater focus on price stability by the bank. The results suggest that the CBSL reacted to nominal exchange rate depreciation by tightening monetary policy. Although the degree of interest rate smoothness gradually decreases over time, the study shows that the CBSL did not react to movements in …

The Indonesian island of Bali is internationally renowned as a popular tourist destination. Tourists from around the world have been attracted to Bali’s rich and colourful displays of culture and its friendly people for many decades. Intertwined with the predominately Hindu culture that is so readily visible is the invisible customary legal system of Bali that regulates much of the daily life of the Balinese. This autochthonous legal system exists in plurality with the Indonesian state legal system. As with all legal systems, the Balinese customary law system is in a state of flux. Developing A Legal Framework Of Personal Data Protection In The Indonesian Criminal Procedure Law, Josua Sitompul
Indonesia Law Review
Searching and seizing voluminous data is a challenge that Indonesian law enforcement authorities should resolve. Indonesia does not have a comprehensive regime on personal data protection. The absence of a coherent legal framework on personal data protection does not negate the obligation of Indonesian law enforcement authorities to protect personal data of Indonesian subjects. However, the absence of the framework may lead to uncertainties or ambiguities on how the authorities should protect personal data. Against the uncertainties and ambiguities, Indonesian law enforcement authorities should resolve issues of voluminous data in obtaining e-information with the prevailing legislation. This article attempts to …

Temporal Poetics In Thomson And Craighead’S The Time Machine In Alphabetical Order, A Prior
School of Art, Design and Architecture
This paper considers The Time Machine in Alphabetical Order (2010) by Thomson and Craighead as an exploration of contemporary media technologies and their problematisation of time. After a brief hermeneutic reading of the work’s narrative, aesthetic and semiotic registers, the paper undertakes an analysis at the level of materiality and processuality. This approach concludes by drawing out some connections between hermeneutic and material/processual characteristics of the work as an exploration of mediality. Key to Thomson and Craighead’s approach is the simultaneous foregrounding and manipulation of both these levels of meaning, for example through their technological and mediatised take on Oulipo’s …
