Targeted Job Advertisements On Social Media: An Age-Old Practice In A New Suit, Joseph Nelson Jr. Dec 2019

Targeted Job Advertisements On Social Media: An Age-Old Practice In A New Suit, Joseph Nelson Jr.

Global Business Law Review

This Note argues that an employer’s use of social media sites to "micro-target" potential job applicants is not per se unlawful under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Rather, recruitment practices that target a specific age group are permissible under the ADEA when those recruitment practices are part of a broader recruitment strategy. When analyzing job advertisements on social media platforms, courts should not only consider the context of the advertisement, but also whether the advertisements are available through other resources. Such an analysis would allow employers to take advantage of the streamlined recruitment platforms available through social media …

Evaluation Of Driver Behavior To Hydroplaning In The State Of Florida Using Driving Simulation, Claude Villiers, Dahai Guo Dec 2019

Evaluation Of Driver Behavior To Hydroplaning In The State Of Florida Using Driving Simulation, Claude Villiers, Dahai Guo

CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development

This project used a driving simulator to investigate patterns of drivers’ behavior during rainfall events using different geometries. We conducted a literature review of previous transportation studies using driving simulators and selected and analyzed extensive field data on major highway sections throughout Florida. The driving simulator at the University of Central Florida simulated the parameters such as speed and rainfall intensity observed in the field.Based on our analysis, we found that drivers are not affected by light rainfall events. However, heavy rainfall has a significant impact on their speed; on average they reduced their speed by 6 to 12 mph. …

CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development

Major cities worldwide are now experiencing immense growth caused by rapid urbanization and industrialization over the past decades. Currently, more than half of the world’s population lives in the urban area and this number is projected to increase most likely to more than 65% by 2050. Nowadays, Asia has the highest number of urban dwellers, which subsequently followed by Europe and Africa. Back in 2000, Tokyo was the largest metropolitan area occupied by 37 million citizens, followed by New Delhi, Shanghai, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo. Other cities such as Cairo, Mumbai, Beijing, and Dhaka caught up with average inhabitants …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Background: Bedside thyroid cartilage palpation technique is a quick and non-invasive swallowing screening test. However, the correlation between thyroid cartilage movement and penetration/aspiration risks in stroke patients has not been conclusive to date. Therefore, we compared the result of videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) and bedside thyroid cartilage palpation to determine the penetration/ aspiration risks in stroke patients. Material and methods: Our study included 53 patients admitted to a medical center for rehabilitation within 6-months of stroke onset. We recorded penetration-aspiration scale by VFSS and compared it with a bedside thyroid cartilage palpation technique. Results: Our results show significant higher rates …

Effective Capacity Optimization For Cognitive Radio Networks Under Primary Qos Provisioning, Karim Gomaa Seddik Dec 2019

Effective Capacity Optimization For Cognitive Radio Networks Under Primary Qos Provisioning, Karim Gomaa Seddik

Faculty Journal Articles

Cognitive radios have emerged as a key enabler for opportunistic spectrum access, in order to tackle the wireless spectrum scarcity and under utilization problems over the past two decades. In this paper, we aim to enhance the secondary user (SU) performance while maintaining the desired average packet delay for the primary user (PU). In particular, we investigate the trade-off between delay-constrained primary and secondary users in cog- nitive radio systems. In the first part of this work, we use the hard-sensing scheme to make a decision on the PU activity and maximize the SU effective capacity subject to an average …

Low-Complexity Semi-Blind Channel Estimation Algorithms For Vehicular Communications Using The Ieee 802.11 P Standard, Moustafa M. Awad, Karim Gomaa Seddik, Ayman Elezabi Dec 2019

Low-Complexity Semi-Blind Channel Estimation Algorithms For Vehicular Communications Using The Ieee 802.11 P Standard, Moustafa M. Awad, Karim Gomaa Seddik, Ayman Elezabi

Faculty Journal Articles

The vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications channel is highly time-varying, making reliable communication difficult. This problem is particularly challenging because the de facto standard for V2V communications, the IEEE 802.11p standard, is based on the IEEE 802.11a standard, which was designed for the indoor and relatively stationary wireless LAN channel. In particular, the frame structure, which allows large packets and has low pilot density makes channel estimation difficult. In this paper, we propose several semi-blind channel estimation and tracking algorithms that are suitable for highly time-varying channels using the 802.11p frame structure. Two of the proposed schemes utilize the finite alphabet property …

Trauma-Informed Whole School Approach: A Case Study, Melissa Erickson Dec 2019

Trauma-Informed Whole School Approach: A Case Study, Melissa Erickson

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Theses and Dissertations

Today, trauma is known to affect two-thirds of children, making it a high probability that students affected by trauma are sitting in every classroom around the United States (McInerney & McKlindon, 2014). Cole et al. (2005) described schools as being, “...significant communities for children and teachers” (p. 1). This poses a challenge for schools across the United States to know how to engage students who are affected by trauma in their learning. Trauma leads to adverse effects on how a student will learn, behave, and respond socially and emotionally in the classroom (Cole et al., 2005). Therefore, educators need to …

Background: Increasing accreditation requirements as well as transformations in medical school curricula necessitate administrative staff who are not only invested in the clerkship coordinator role but also view what they do as a career. To date, there has been a lack of professional development opportunities for clerkship administrators.

Methods: In 2003, the Central Group on Educational Affairs of the Association of American Medical Colleges recognized a need for professional development for clerkship administrators. The Clerkship Administrator Certificate Program emerged from that decision and presented for the first time in 2004 in Omaha, Nebraska. This article provides an overview of the …

In one example, a method includes obtaining a frequency difference associated with a generator of a power system; determining an output power adjustment based at least in part upon the frequency difference and a cost function associated with the generator; and providing a power command to a secondary frequency control of the generator, the power command based upon the output power adjustment. In another example, a generator control system includes a primary frequency controller configured …
