Between Aastha And Zee:Mystery Of The Missing Market For Aweather Channel, Satish Y. Deodhar, Chayasmita Deka
International Review of Business and Economics
Until a few decades ago, Doordarshan was the only channel which would broadcast TV programmes in black-&-white and that too for a few hours. It was a pure public good then, offered free of cost by the government. Today, however, from Aastha to Zee there are hundreds of dedicated private channels competing to offer news, sports, entertainment, and spirituality for a price. And still, there is not a single channel which is dedicated to 24-hour weather forecast. This is a clear case of market failure of the free enterprise system. The missing market for an exclusive weather channel is the …

Effect Of Winter Canola Cultivar On Seed Yield, Oil, And Protein Content, Edmund T. Tetteh, Jason P. De Koff, Bharat Pokharel, Richard Link, Chris Robbins
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Faculty Research
Canola (Brassica napus L.) is an oilseed crop that can produce healthy cooking oil and animal feed byproducts. Although it is a relatively new crop, approved for human consumption less than 40 yr ago, advances in breeding have allowed for its production as a winter crop in the southeastern United States. There is little published research, however, related to its performance and quality in this region. Therefore, a study was conducted during the 2014–2015 (Year 1) and 2015–2016 (Year 2) seasons in Tennessee. Twenty-three varieties were planted in a randomized complete block design with four replications across both years …

Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science Faculty Publications
The phenological responses of corn (Zea mays L.) to competition with increasing densities of winter canola (Brassica napus L.) as the weedy competitor were investigated. Changes in the corn transcriptome resulting from varying weed densities were used to identify genes and processes responsive to competition under controlled conditions where light, nutrients, and water were not limited. Increasing densities of weeds resulted in decreased corn growth and development and increased the number and expression intensity of competition-responsive genes. The physiological processes identified in corn that were consistently induced by competition with weeds included protein synthesis and various transport functions. …

Experimental Investigation Examining The Effects Of Acute Exercise On Implicit Memory Function, Paul D. Loprinzi, Morgan Gilbert, Gina Robinson, Briahna Dickerson
Experimental Investigation Examining The Effects Of Acute Exercise On Implicit Memory Function, Paul D. Loprinzi, Morgan Gilbert, Gina Robinson, Briahna Dickerson
Faculty and Student Publications
© 2019, PsychOpen. All rights reserved. Emerging work suggests that acute exercise can enhance explicit memory function. Minimal research, however, has examined whether acute exercise is associated with implicit memory, which was the purpose of this study. Three separate experimental studies were computed (N = 120; Mean age = 21). In Experiment 1, participants were randomly assigned to either a moderate-intensity bout of acute exercise (15-minute) or engaged in a seated control task (15-minute), followed by the completion of a word-fragmentation implicit memory task. Experiment 2 replicated Experiment 1, but instead employed a higher-intensity exercise protocol. For Experiment 3, participants …

Humboldt Bay Area Plan Communities At Risk Strategic Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning Report, Aldaron Laird
Local Reports and Publications
Located in the area of unincorporated Humboldt County covered by the HBAP are three communities that are vulnerable to and at risk from sea level rise of 3.3 feet (1.0 meter) and are the focus of this adaptation planning report: King Salmon, Fields Landing, and Fairhaven (which includes the area referred to as Finntown). Potential sea level rise impacts these communities could be exposed to include: shoreline erosion, tidal inundation, flooding from rising groundwater in response to sea level rise, backwater flooding during stormwater runoff and high tides, and salt water intrusion of individual septic/wastewater systems.
After Corwin: Down The Controlling Shareholder Rabbit Hole, Ann M. Lipton
After Corwin: Down The Controlling Shareholder Rabbit Hole, Ann M. Lipton
Vanderbilt Law Review
As Delaware has developed its doctrine with respect to controlling shareholders, its view of their relationship to directors has evolved. This evolution has produced some pronounced inconsistencies with respect to the weight placed on director approval of controlling shareholder action. The recent Delaware Supreme Court decisions in Corwin v. KKR Financial Holdings LLC, Kahn v. M & F Worldwide Corp., and C & J Energy Services, Inc. v. City of Miami General Employees’ and Sanitation Employees’ Retirement Trust introduced further uncertainty into the mix by making the determination as to whether a transaction involves a controlling shareholder practically outcome determinative …

Qualitative Analysis Of A Sir Epidemic Model With A Nonlinear Relapse And Incidence Rate Stochastically Perturbed, Abdelaziz Assadouq, Adel Settati, Ali El Myr
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we analyze a stochastic SIR epidemic model in a constant population with a relapse and nonlinear perturbation. First, we illustrate show that the system has a unique global positive solution that belongs to a positively invariant set. Then, we obtain sufficient conditions for the extinction and persistence in the mean. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.

Written In Black, White, And Red: An Exploration Of Civilizer Theology In American History, Jeremy Mcginniss
Written In Black, White, And Red: An Exploration Of Civilizer Theology In American History, Jeremy Mcginniss
Master's Theses
This paper proposes an extended definition and discusses examples of civilizer theology within the perceptions and practices of white Protestant American Christianity faith traditions. Civilizer theology is defined as a self-referential, self-fulfilling framework actively shaping the expectations, behaviors and practices of societal norms driving cultural practices. Examples are selected as guided by three significant and interdependent dispositions characterizing civilizer theology: cultural decay/moral decline, authority, and violence. This paper hypothesizes theological interpretation, application and exegesis, mediated by the three dispositions, are deliberately applied to support socio-economic, cultural and political ends with the goal of maintaining power structures benefiting a particular group.

Turbidity And Ion Concentrations Vary With Land Use And Underlying Geology At The West Fork Of The White River, Erin E. Scott, Brian E. Haggard
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The West Fork of the White River (WFWR) watershed in northwest Arkansas is a trans-ecoregion watershed and is experiencing land-use changes, especially in the downstream portion of the watershed. The entire 54-km long river has been on the State’s 303(d) list of impaired waterbodies for turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), and sulfate for many years. The purpose of this study was to identify which part(s) of the river fail to meet applicable water quality standards (WQS) and to investigate possible sources of pollutants, whether human-caused or naturally occurring. Water samples were collected once or twice a month at 9 sites …

The Role Of Periodontal Disease In Lymphatic Function, Kristen Carlisle, Hanna Marie, Haley Taylor
Dental Hygiene Student Research Posters
Research poster addressing the question: Does periodontal disease affect lymphatic function? Gingival lymphatic vessels drain interstitial fluid and transport immune cells to lymph nodes but despite this, it is unknown how the lymphatic system impacts periodontal disease in humans. In light of this, studies have been observed on animals with the vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC), a growth factor known to be increased in periodontal patients. VEGFC is involved in lymphatic hyperplasia and lymphangiogenesis, the proliferation of lymphatic endothelial cells. This growth factor is believed to affect gingival lymphatic function in periodontitis patients. When reviewing the literature, it is …

The Implications Of Environmental Law And Latino Property Rights On Modern-Age Border Security: Rejecting A Physical Border And Embracing A Virtual Wall, Kevin Hernandez
Student Scholarship
For many, the construction of a physical border is a rational solution to national security concerns at the southern border. However, there is much evidence indicating that the negative impacts of building a physical border wall far outweigh its benefits. Particularly, the border region’s eco-systems have much to lose in the form of extinctions, biodiversity reduction, and critical habitat destruction. On top of that, a number of Latino communities would be the victims of various eminent domain claims that would strip them of land that, in many cases, has been in their family for multiple gener- ations. The broad, almost …
A Literary Lens Into Constitutional Interpretation And A Possible Synthesis Of Natural And Positive Law: The Silmarillion, Charles Edward Andrew Lincoln Iv
A Literary Lens Into Constitutional Interpretation And A Possible Synthesis Of Natural And Positive Law: The Silmarillion, Charles Edward Andrew Lincoln Iv
Student Scholarship
The nature of identity in the United States lies in the Constitution. Perhaps this is due to “veneration” of the document. It has also been argued that the Declaration of Independence holds a seminal role in the American identity.
The rift seems to occur with the concept of a “living constitution,” whereby the concept of an ever-evolving jurisprudence allows for an evolving interpretation of the Constitution as society changes.
This rift can be demonstrated by the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. In The Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion, the various languages of groups of Middle Earth represent and have distinct …
