Says Who? A Feminist Challenge Of Moral And Epistemic Authority In Advocacy, Coral Ciupak
Says Who? A Feminist Challenge Of Moral And Epistemic Authority In Advocacy, Coral Ciupak
Senior Independent Study Theses
This Independent Study thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter, “The Challenge of Feminist Ethics,” describes the project of feminist ethics to respond to patterns of inclusion and exclusion within the dominant tradition of moral thought and practice. I then highlight several features of consideration in feminist ethics that are useful in its response and subsequent development of alternative representations of moral life. My second chapter, “The Moral and Epistemic Commitment of Advocacy,” discusses the field of advocacy as morally and epistemically engaged through practices of speaking for others. I give reasons to believe that the commitment underpinning …
The Progression Of Aβ Proteins In The Retrosplenial Cortex Using An App/Ps1 Alzheimer’S Disease Transgenic Rodent Model, Maha H. Rashid
The Progression Of Aβ Proteins In The Retrosplenial Cortex Using An App/Ps1 Alzheimer’S Disease Transgenic Rodent Model, Maha H. Rashid
Senior Independent Study Theses
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia in the world with a new case of dementia diagnosed every 3.2 seconds. For over 25 years the amyloid cascade hypothesis has existed as a mechanism of understanding and diagnosing Alzheimer’s Disease. The amyloid cascade hypothesis suggests that Alzheimer’s Disease is sequential in protein progression and proliferative from the medial temporal lobe to the rest of the brain. Hypometabolism of brain regions has also been correlated to plaque deposition and hypometabolism is observed in brain regions that make up the default mode network, specifically the retrosplenial cortex, which is not accounted …
The Meaning Of The Fear Of God: The Crucial Notion Of The Everlasting Gospel– A Biblical Study, Jiří Moskala
The Meaning Of The Fear Of God: The Crucial Notion Of The Everlasting Gospel– A Biblical Study, Jiří Moskala
Journal of the Adventist Theological Society
The first imperative of the everlasting Gospel as described in Rev 14:6–13 is plainly expressed: “Fear God” (Greek: fobethete ton theon). The context of this command is the announcement of God’s judgment which leads to three imperatives. The notion of fearing God plays a primary role among these commands: “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water” (Rev 14:7 NIV). This shocking command is disturbing for at least five reasons: 1. Itsounds negative and may produce a phobic reaction. …
Joseph, Judah And Jesus: Revisiting Genesis 37-50, Jo Ann Davidson
Joseph, Judah And Jesus: Revisiting Genesis 37-50, Jo Ann Davidson
Journal of the Adventist Theological Society
It is the position of this paper that the last thirteen chapters of Genesis highlight not only Joseph, but also Judah—both of whose lives are types of Christ, albeit in different ways. Not only are the noble attributes of Joseph’s life reflected in Jesus, but Jesus is also the “Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Rev 5:4).” Contra some claims of careless “redacting,” the Judah narratives are rightly and evocatively found within the Joseph cycle. Familiarity with the Genesis narratives creates the possibility of missing or overlooking the theology embedded in the shape, structure, and content of them. 1 Thereby …
Constructing A Theology Of Relational Life Through The Themes Of Creation, Incarnation, And Re-Creation As An Alternative To Current Categories Of Religions, Andrew Tompkins
Dissertations
This dissertation argues that current categories of religions are overly reliant on Western Enlightenment-based presuppositions and academic thinking that creates barriers in understanding God’s desire for all people to have abundant life. Many theologians and missiologists utilize these inherited categories without first subjecting them to the biblical canon. As a result, the theological and missiological discourse on religions is often grounded in extra-biblical presuppositions rooted primarily in an overly high view of human reason that do not accurately portray a biblical approach to relational life. These presuppositions do not accurately portray a biblical approach to relational life. I, therefore, compared …
"Let Us Make 'Adam": An Edenic Model Of Personal Ontology, Marla A. Samaan Nedelcu
"Let Us Make 'Adam": An Edenic Model Of Personal Ontology, Marla A. Samaan Nedelcu
Dissertations
Personal ontology studies human constitution and human nature, an increasingly debated topic in Christian theology. Historically, the most prominent models of personal ontology in Christian theology have been substance dualist models. More recently, physicalist models have offered prominent alternatives.
This dissertation studies the conflict of interpretations between these two major model groupings. By applying a canonical theology, it then presents an Edenic model of personal ontology that can address the current conflict of interpretations. To achieve this end, the dissertation briefly analyzes substance dualism and physicalism according to the rubrics of constitution and nature, using a model methodology. It then …
Breathe In, Breathe Out: An Exploration Of The Impacts Of Yoga On Self-Regulation And Classroom Community, Shaylyn Trenkamp
Breathe In, Breathe Out: An Exploration Of The Impacts Of Yoga On Self-Regulation And Classroom Community, Shaylyn Trenkamp
Honors Program Theses
Research on the effects of yoga and mindfulness has demonstrated increased selfregulation and impacts on community in many settings, but specific data regarding the effects of mindfulness practices in the early childhood classroom is limited. The purpose of this thesis study was to take a closer look at yoga and mindfulness in the classroom and the impact it could have on self-regulation and classroom community for young students. Yoga and mindfulness lessons were taught in two kindergarten classrooms and student responses were collected throughout the project. Classroom teachers involved were also interviewed about how mindfulness affected their students and classrooms. …
Where Was I?: Engagement Strategies For Students With Attention Deficit Disorders, Brenna L. Herrmann
Where Was I?: Engagement Strategies For Students With Attention Deficit Disorders, Brenna L. Herrmann
Honors Program Theses
Throughout my time in the elementary classroom I have been flooded with instances where my cooperating teacher or I, myself, have struggled with students who are inattentive or disruptive during class. This not only makes it difficult for that specific student to learn, but also has the possibility of preventing others from learning. My most memorable experience of teaching students like this has been with a brilliant student who was clinically diagnosed and medicated for the hyperactive subset of attention deficit disorders, more well-known as ADHD. The following thesis is the research and creation of strategies to help teach students …

Examination Of Manner Of Motion Sound Symbolism For English Nonce Verbs, Janis B. Nuckolls, David Eddington
Examination Of Manner Of Motion Sound Symbolism For English Nonce Verbs, Janis B. Nuckolls, David Eddington
Faculty Publications
This paper offers cross-experimental verification of a previous study that found that English speakers considered velars, palatals, glides, and high vowels to be sound-symbolic of light and jerky movements. Heavy and smooth movements, by contrast, were associated with affricates, glottals, laterals, and non-high vowels. The present study sought to evaluate these findings through a novel experiment with English speaking subjects, who were asked to choose appropriate sound-symbolically constructed nonce verbs for sentences describing light, heavy, smooth, or jerky manners of motion. Our results support many of Saji et al.’s findings and also offer original insights. We find complex interactions between …
Children’S Selective Trust In Promises, Margherita Isella, Patricia Kanngiesser, Michael Tomasello
Children’S Selective Trust In Promises, Margherita Isella, Patricia Kanngiesser, Michael Tomasello
School of Psychology
There has been extensive research into the development of selective trust in testimony, but little is known about the development of selective trust in promises. The present research investigates children’s (N = 264) selective trust in others’ promises to help. In Study 1, 6-year-olds selectively trusted speakers who had previously kept a promise. In Study 2, 5-year-olds displayed selective trust for speakers who had previously kept a prosocial promise (promise to help). In Study 3, 5-year-olds trusted a speaker, who kept a prosocial promise, over a helper. These data suggest that from the age of 5 children show selective trust …
