Naktide Targeted To Adipocytes Ameliorates Western Diet Induced Obesity, Rebecca D. Pratt Jan 2019

Naktide Targeted To Adipocytes Ameliorates Western Diet Induced Obesity, Rebecca D. Pratt

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Obesity has become a worldwide epidemic and is a major risk factor for metabolic syndrome. It is believed that cellular oxidant stress plays a key role in both the development and maintenance of obesity as well as its associated comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). We have previously reported that systemic administration of pNaKtide, which targets the Na/K-ATPase oxidant amplification loop was able to decrease oxidative stress and adiposity in mice fed a high fat and fructose supplemented western diet (WD). As adipocytes are believed to play an active role in the development of obesity and …

Draft Genome Assembly And Annotation Of The Gila Topminnow Poeciliopsis Occidentalis, Mariana Mateos, Du Kang, Christophe Klopp, Hugues Parrinello, Mateo García-Olazábal, Molly Schumer, Nathaniel K. Jue, Yann Guiguen, Manfred Schartl

School of Natural Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations

The freshwater livebearing fish genus Poeciliopsis (Poeciliidae) constitutes a valuable research system for questions within the field of evolutionary ecology, including life history evolution (e.g., multiple origins of placentas), intergenomic conflict, evolution of sex (with the existence of several asexual hybrid biotypes), and biogeography (reviewed in Mateos et al., 2019). Despite its importance, a robust phylogenetic framework, and genomic resources are lacking for this taxon. Herein, we report the first whole genome draft sequence of a member of this genus: Poeciliopsis occidentalis Baird and Girard (1853), the Gila topminnow. Poeciliopsis occidentalis, along with its sister lineage P. sonoriensis Girard (1859) …

Syllabus And Lecture Slides For A Revised Social Work Practice Course On Diagnosing With The Dsm-5 Using Case Studies And Active Learning Techniques To Enhance Student Engagement., James D. Simon

Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy

Syllabus and lecture slides for a revised social work practice course on diagnosing with the DSM-5 using case studies and active learning techniques to enhance student engagement.

The following syllabus and lecture slides were completed as part of the Newer Faculty Learning Center (NFLC) grant to increase the use of high-impact content and pedagogy among new faculty. The syllabus and lectures slides provide an example of how to embed case studies, an evidence-based teaching (EBT) strategy (Herreid, 2011), into a social work foundation practice course on diagnosing with the DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). This particular EBT was implemented primarily …

Characterizing The Importance Of Clarity Of Roles And Responsibilities In Government Inter-Organizational Collaboration And Information Sharing Initiatives, J. Ramon Gil-Garcia, A. Guler, Theresa A. Pardo, G. Brian Burke Jan 2019

Characterizing The Importance Of Clarity Of Roles And Responsibilities In Government Inter-Organizational Collaboration And Information Sharing Initiatives, J. Ramon Gil-Garcia, A. Guler, Theresa A. Pardo, G. Brian Burke

Center for Technology in Government

Previous research has shown that clarity of roles and responsibilities (CRR) influences the performance of individual organizations as well as inter-organizational efforts. In the context of cross-boundary information sharing (CBIS), CRR has been found to enable other important determinants of success, such as building trust among members, increasing their willingness to participate, and mitigating some of their concerns about security, among others. However, few studies have attempted to understand the determinants of CRR in government CBIS initiatives. Sayogo, Gil-Garcia, and Cronemberger's (2016) analysis of results of a national survey identified three significant determinants of CRR in CBIS, (1) the extent …

Changing The Rules Of The Game: Can Voicing For Social Responsibility Influence Market Behavior Toward Greater Inclusiveness In Economic Development?, Eileen M. Hoffmann

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines social responsibility within a capitalist economy by investigating socially responsible investing and, tangentially, corporate social responsibility. These concepts have been at the heart of economic and legal debates for hundreds of years, with no clearly defined consensus regarding how to account for multi-stakeholder welfare inside the market system. This point is brought to life by analyzing two dominant twentieth-century economic periods, 1945-1975/79 and post-1980, through the deliberations of Keynesian economics and Milton Friedman.

This thesis postulates that since the 2008 global financial crisis, a new (i.e. third) economic period is taking shape, ushered in by both the …

Flipping An Agricultural Teaching Methods Course At A Non-Land Grant University, Nathan W. Conner, Christopher T. Stripling, Stacy Tomas, Dennis Fennewald, Billye Foster Jan 2019

Flipping An Agricultural Teaching Methods Course At A Non-Land Grant University, Nathan W. Conner, Christopher T. Stripling, Stacy Tomas, Dennis Fennewald, Billye Foster

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

The purpose of this study was to analyze undergraduate students’ perceptions of experiencing a flipped classroom in a teaching methods course at a Non-Land Grant Public Institution. The flipped classroom moves lectures and online videos outside of the classroom and uses class time for learning activities that promote problem-solving and discussion. Basic qualitative methods were used to provide flexibility, rich description, and the emergence of common patterns and themes. Participants reported the online lectures were beneficial and provided order and structure to the learning process. Personal responsibility emerged as a subtheme with mixed responses. Some participants felt it was the …
