The Juggler Of Notre Dame And The Medievalizing Of Modernity, Volume 6: War And Peace, Sex And Violence, Jan M. Ziolkowski
The Juggler Of Notre Dame And The Medievalizing Of Modernity, Volume 6: War And Peace, Sex And Violence, Jan M. Ziolkowski
Juggling for Mary
This ambitious and vivid study in six volumes explores the journey of a single, electrifying story, from its first incarnation in a medieval French poem through its prolific rebirth in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Juggler of Notre Dame tells how an entertainer abandons the world to join a monastery, but is suspected of blasphemy after dancing his devotion before a statue of the Madonna in the crypt; he is saved when the statue, delighted by his skill, miraculously comes to life.
Jan Ziolkowski tracks the poem from its medieval roots to its rediscovery in late nineteenth-century Paris, before …

Narrative Inquiry Into The Barriers To And Facilitators Of Teacher Implementation And Sustainability Of Arts Integration In An Urban Public School District, Cheryl Mcclendon
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
To improve the overall quality of education within under-performing schools across the United States and, in particular, to improve outcomes for diverse learners, it is imperative to find ways to increase the adoption of evidence-based practices.
This study aims to illuminate the barriers and facilitators that confront teachers in the sustained implementation of arts integration using a scientifically research-based Constructivist methodology. Arts Integration (AI) has been proven to increase students’ literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking skills. For decades, the U.S. Department of Education has funded research studies revealing the efficacy of arts integration. Data, however, indicate a lack of sustained …

Personal Geography, Floating Identities And Inter-Asian Migration In Stories By Migrant Workers In Taiwan, I-Chun Wang
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "Personal Geography, floating Identities and Inter-Asian Migration in Stories by Migrant Workers in Taiwan," I-Chun Wang discusses narratives by migrant workers with the purpose of looking into their personal geographies, their possibilities of integration, their floating identities and their dreams of settlement and possible success. This paper stresses the stories of migration show not only common human values, shared across cultures and creolization, but also sad stories of human-rights violations, injustices, discrimination, and even human trafficking. In these fictional stories or witness literature, cross-cultural conflicts, cultural in-betweenness and cultural hybridity are intertwined with the migrants’ ways to …

Advertising In A World Full Of Human Trafficking: How Advertising And Human Trafficking Coincide, April M. Cherry
Advertising In A World Full Of Human Trafficking: How Advertising And Human Trafficking Coincide, April M. Cherry
Honors Theses
As a young woman, I have been groomed to worry about the consequences of what I wear, what I say, and how I interact with men. My grandma is constantly sending me emails with new information on sexual assault or kidnapping cases around the area in which I live. I see articles about human trafficking schemes on my news feed almost weekly. As a young woman, I am conditioned to be on guard at all times because the dangers of being abducted or attacked, specifically trafficked, are portrayed to be more likely than they truly are. Why is this? Why …

This is a 20-minute directing project exploring the usage of acting exercises to generate a better performance. Some methods involved include the teachings of: Konstantin Stanislavksi, Jacques Lecoq, Anne Bogart, and Peter Brook. The pieces being performed were “The Field of Blue Children” and “You Lied to Me About Centralia” from the collection Desire: A Look at Tennessee Williams. The usage of rehearsal time was dedicated to exploration and discovery of the character motivations and how each character’s unique desires impacted the scene. Upgrading Trend Of Machinery In China's Export Sophistication, Yue Liu
Upgrading Trend Of Machinery In China's Export Sophistication, Yue Liu
Honors Capstones
Previous studies have found that China is “special” in exporting highly sophisticated goods not comparable with its income level. In this article, we focus on whether China’s machinery is exceptional sophistication. We make use of a unique world machinery production dataset to access China’s upgrading trajectory in the global machinery industry. We use a special way to measure the machinery sophistication in different countries and in different categories. Contrary to existing trade studies, we find no evidence that China’s machinery production activities are more sophisticated than one would expect form its level of development.

Creating Theatre: Historical Women's Stories For Here And Now, Abby M. Ferree
Honors Capstones
One of the most instinctual ideals of humanity is the necessity of sharing stories, past or fiction, to inform what we decide to do in the here and now. Storytelling is a part of all of us. It’s innate. As an actor, my role in storytelling is generally to be the sounding piece for the voices of others. I bring to life the story and the life of another person or character in order to bring new questions to light for my audience. However, as an actor, we rarely get to choose what stories are being told, and the gift …

The Role Of The Soldier In Civilian Life: Personal And Social Concerns That Influence Reintegration Processes, Matthew J. Ahlfs
The Role Of The Soldier In Civilian Life: Personal And Social Concerns That Influence Reintegration Processes, Matthew J. Ahlfs
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The intent and direction of this thesis is to recognize personal and social concerns that influence soldiers’ reintegration process. The missing element in current literature is capturing the soldiers’ lived experiences, ideas, perspective and knowledge of what it truly means to be a soldier and having to reintegrate back into the civilian life after being submerged the military culture for an extended period of time. One of the vital concerns to the soldiers is how civilians, specifically the community, politicians, scholars and mental health providers, are not necessary fully aware nor do they recognize the influential impacts of the experiences …
