Model For Coordination Of Microtubule And Actin Dynamics In Growth Cone Turning, Erin M. Craig
Model For Coordination Of Microtubule And Actin Dynamics In Growth Cone Turning, Erin M. Craig
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences
In the developing nervous system, axons are guided to their synaptic targets by motile structures at the axon tip called growth cones, which reorganize their cytoskeleton in order to steer in response to chemotactic cues. Growth cone motility is mediated by an actin-adhesion “clutch” mechanism, in which mechanical attachment to a substrate, coupled with polarized actin growth, produces leading-edge protrusion. Several studies suggest that dynamic microtubules (MTs) in the growth cone periphery play an essential role in growth cone steering. It is not yet well-understood how the MT cytoskeleton and the dynamic actin-adhesion clutch system are coordinated to promote growth …

Where Does The Pregnant Women Searching For Their Information Need?, Ekawati Marlina, Dwiatri Kusumaningrum, Seno Yudhanto
Jurnal Ilmu Informasi, Perpustakaan, dan Kearsipan
Pregnant women tend to be more concern with the health and food issue. During pregnancy, women will have physiological changes, such as intestinal disorders, metabolic diseases, and obesity. They tend to reduce consume of food with pregnancy-related health risk. In order to achieve a healthy pregnancy, information related to health and food issue are needed. Pregnant women were actively seek information from a variety of sources. The research method used is literature review, we would like to identify which source of information that most used by pregnant to meet their information need and how is their belief about the sources. …

The Impact Of Salesperson Look-Brand Personality Congruence On Brand Affect, Heekyung Lee, Youjae Yi
The Impact Of Salesperson Look-Brand Personality Congruence On Brand Affect, Heekyung Lee, Youjae Yi
Asia Marketing Journal
Branded service encounters, in which various aspects of frontline employees are strategically aligned with the firm’s brand positioning, can be achieved along several dimensions such as employee appearance, manner, and personality. While previous research has mainly focused on behavioral traits of employees, this research examines the employee’s physical appearance in association with the brand personality trait across two studies. Study 1 shows that salesperson look-brand personality congruence enhances brand affect by inducing positive affect. Specifically, a brand-congruent look of a salesperson increases positive affect among customers by confirming their prior expectations about what a salesperson of a certain brand should …

Profitability, Engaging Delivery, And Trust: How Extension Professionals Can Optimize Farmer Adoption Of Climate-Related Adaptation Strategies, David C. Diehl, Nicole L. Sloan, Elder P. Garcia, Daniel R. Dourte, Sebastian Galindo-Gonzalez, Clyde W. Fraisse
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
This study examined Extension professionals’ perspectives on how to optimize the chances that farmers will adopt climate adaptation strategies designed to minimize risks associated with climate variability and climate change. In-depth interviews were conducted with Extension professionals in four southeastern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina). Responses were coded and analyzed, resulting in three recommendations. First, focus on profitability and issues of immediate concern to farmers. Second, use engaging delivery methods, especially field trials conducted under realistic conditions. Third, build trust with farmers, primarily by focusing on research-based information. This study has practical implications for how Extension professionals should …

Frontotemporal Dementia Knowledge Scale: Development And Preliminary Psychometric Properties, Matthew Wynn
Frontotemporal Dementia Knowledge Scale: Development And Preliminary Psychometric Properties, Matthew Wynn
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) accounts for about 10 percent of dementia cases and is a common cause of early-onset dementia. Although knowledge about the symptoms and course of FTD has expanded in the past decade, there exists no well-validated instrument to measure FTD knowledge. As a step toward that goal, this study sought to create a scale to measure knowledge of FTD based on contemporary understanding of the disease. Standard scale development methods were used to create items, and their psychometric properties were evaluated in a sample of 174 healthcare providers and caregivers of people with FTD. The resulting scale (Frontotemporal …

Development Of Betulinic Acid Triazole Conjugates As Potential Anti-Cancer Agents, Gayathri Jampana
Development Of Betulinic Acid Triazole Conjugates As Potential Anti-Cancer Agents, Gayathri Jampana
Theses and Dissertations
Betulin and betulinic acid are pentacyclic triterpenoid natural product isolated from the bark of birch trees. While betulin is abundantly available in the bark, betulinic acid is present in scarce quantities in nature. However, betulinic acid can be conveniently synthesized from betulin via simple redox manipulations. Betulinic acid shows selective cytotoxicity profile against cancer cells in vitro while being relatively safe for normal cells. One of the challenges for the clinical development of betulinic acid is its lack of aqueous solubility. The three key structural features of betulin/betulinic acid that have been routinely exploited for structural modifications to enhance their …

Design And Application Of Task-Specific Gumbos And Nanogumbos For Sensing And Separation, Mingyan Cong
Design And Application Of Task-Specific Gumbos And Nanogumbos For Sensing And Separation, Mingyan Cong
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The work presented in this dissertation employs task-specific materials for sensing and protein separation applications. These materials were derived from a group of uniform materials based on organic salts (GUMBOS). GUMBOS are organic salts similar to ionic liquids, but have melting points ranging from 25 to 250 °C. As with ionic liquids, the properties of GUMBOS can be easily tuned by changing the counter-ion. Thus, task-specific GUMBOS can be designed and prepared with properties that are beneficial for applications in sensing or protein separation. In this dissertation, the selective responsive behavior of a series of GUMBOS and nanomaterials derived from …
