Differential Effects Of Internal And External Constraints On Sustainability Intentions: A Hierarchical Regression Analysis Of Running Event Participants By Market Segment, Galen Trail, Brian P. Mccullough
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
There are immediate calls to action across all business sectors to address the adverse effects of climate change. The sport industry is not immune to these calls—practitioners have engaged participants to further the environmental initiatives of their events through creative messaging campaigns with mixed success. We examine the differential effects of internal and external constraints on sustainability intentions by market segment of a running event’s participants. This furthers our understanding of how to engage sport participants in sustainable behaviors at a sport event and improves the sustainable behavior outcomes of messaging campaigns. Our results support the principles of constraint theory …

Lessons Learned From A Nontraditional Sports Program: Crossfit Kids For Youth At Risk, Christina M. Gipson, Tamerah Hunt, Michael T. Moore
National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Journal
Offering youth, especially youth at risk, access to something different has the opportunity to allow participants to discover new passions and interests. A nontraditional sports program was offered to middle school students who were members of the local Boys and Girls Club during the 2015–2016 academic year. Identifying a program focusing on CrossFit was valuable because CrossFit Kids programming is geared to develop the whole child addressing health and lifestyle choices and social responsibility. The purpose of this paper is to describe the program, examine what worked and did not work, and note what changes were made based on the …

The Future Of Our Children – Providing Library Spaces For Future Educators At The Cape Peninsula University Of Technology (Cput), Michiel Moll, Petro Coreejes-Brink, Joanne Arendse
Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences
The Cape Peninsula University of Technology has two different campuses on which teacher training takes place – the Mowbray campus with around 2500 education students and the Wellington campus with its 2000 education students. Both campuses were originally designed and built as Colleges of education but were incorporated into the Cape Technikon in 2001 and CPUT in 2005. The libraries were designed to cater for both academic and teaching needs, with many different collections. However these have changed dramatically in nature and use in the last ten years. It was decided to remodel both libraries and incorporate a specialised area …

Influences On The Formation Of Coach-Athlete Relationships, Anthony Rinaldo
Sport Management Undergraduate
For a team to be successful, coaches and players need to have a good relationship. Without this relationship there can be tension within the team that hinders success. The many factors that impact the formation of these relationships depend on both the coach and the athlete. From the data it shows that the athletes that were part of the sample, their motivation and other factors were affected by the poor relationships that were built. If there can be information on what affects the relationship, future coaches and athletic directors can use this information to their advantage.

Exploring Sport Related Sexual Assault On Twitter, Riley O'Brien
Sport Management Undergraduate

At collegiate sport organizations, there seems to be a disconnect between what is right and wrong, especially regarding sexual assault. This study navigates the rough waters of sexual assault and provides institutions with information regarding social media once there is a sexual assault case. Using Twitter, this study will search to find variables that are beneficial to victims and sport institutions alike that will help their story reach the maximum …
College Athletics And The Money Behind It, Ryan Henderson
College Athletics And The Money Behind It, Ryan Henderson
Sport Management Undergraduate
College athletic departments desire the positive attention that is garnered through playoff appearances and championships. Programs believe that if they spend more, they will win more, and gain footing on the national stage. This theory is supported by the tens of millions of dollars currently being spent in college sport. However, this theory is largely untested. Tens of millions of dollars are being spent by college athletic programs to put their teams atop of the national standings. With so much money being spent, programs expect to see results, whether that is playoff appearances or championships, schools want positive attention. This …

Augsburg Honors Review
This study focuses on developing a model for transfer fees paid for the players sold to the fifteen most valuable and the richest soccer clubs in the world. Using the data primarily collected from transfermarkt.com, a leading soccer database focusing on transfers and soccer community valuations, we ran a linear regression using five variables measuring popularity, monetary valuation, and productivity. Results show that variables such as number of Google searches, number of years on contract left, community valuation of a player, number of goals and assists, and race of a player significantly influence the transfer fee paid for a player. …

Understanding The Social Media Fandom Of The Mr. Olympia Bodybuilding Show, Kevin Magee

The sport of bodybuilding has become one of the leading enterprises in using social media as the headlining avenue of marketing and promoting for the events they host. Social media marketing is used to reach marketing goals ranging from consumer care to advertising to commerce. The problem with this is that there is no knowledge about how the fans interact and engage with certain types of posts that are published throughout the Mr. Olympia show by the Mr. Olympia official Instagram account. This project gathered data on both what was posted through the official Mr. Olympia Instagram account and how …

Creating Change In Intercollegiate Athletics: The Sexual Assault Prevention Paradigm For Athletic Departments, Kristy Mccray, Sue Sutherland, Donna L. Pastore
Health and Sport Sciences Faculty Scholarship
In 2011, the Office for Civil Rights issued a “Dear Colleague Letter” instructing universities to take action regarding sexual assault on college campuses. Specifically, universities must better educate students on the prevention of sexual assault, in the hope of reducing violence against women. Previous research is inconclusive on the involvement of intercollegiate student-athletes in incidences of sexual assault; however, recent high-profile cases of sexual misconduct at universities indicate that student-athletes are not immune to this issue. The purpose of this study was to explore how sexual assault is viewed within the culture of intercollegiate athletics, including education, occurrence, and prevention. …
