Restaging World Literature In The Age Of Neoliberalism/Neocolonialism, Shaobo Xie
Restaging World Literature In The Age Of Neoliberalism/Neocolonialism, Shaobo Xie
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In his article "Restaging World Literature in the Age of Neoliberalism/Neocolonialism" Shaobo Xie argues that Goethe's notion of world literature spells a genuine universalism that contributes to resistance to neoliberal imperialism. In the age of neocolonialism/neoliberalism all conduct, and all spheres of human life are framed and measured by economic terms and metrics and neoliberalism both as a governing rationality and as an economic policy is penetrating into every part of the world. The politics that is really heterogeneous or external to the rule of neoliberal capitalism in the neocolonial global present consists in thinking towards new possibilities of organizing …

Can Semiotics Be Used To Drive Paradigm Changes In Medical Education?, John Tredinnick-Rowe
Can Semiotics Be Used To Drive Paradigm Changes In Medical Education?, John Tredinnick-Rowe
Peninsula Medical School
This essay sets out to explain how educational semiotics as a discipline can be used to reform medical education and assessment. This is in response to an ongoing paradigm shift in medical education and assessment that seeks to integrate more qualitative, ethical and professional aspects of medicine into curricula, and develop ways to assess them. This paper suggests that a method to drive this paradigm change might be found in the Peircean idea of suprasubjectivity. This semiotic concept is rooted in the scholastic philosophy of John of St Thomas, but has been reintroduced to modern semiotics through the works of …

Method: A systematic search of the Cochrane Library, EBSCO (AMED, MEDLINE, and CINAHL), Web of Science, SCOPUS, PubMed, and EMBASE was conducted in March 2018 to identify primary published research. Additional studies were identified by hand searching in other sources such as subject-specific journals and grey literature. Any observational study, published in the English language in the last 20 years (1998-2018), involving healthy children and/or young people (5-24 years) in Saudi Arabia was included and the effect of …

Waste Reduction Through Integrated Waste Management Modeling At Mustika Residence (Tangerang), Hendro Putra Johannes
Waste Reduction Through Integrated Waste Management Modeling At Mustika Residence (Tangerang), Hendro Putra Johannes
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
In Indonesia, there are classic issues about waste that are highlighted due to the country’s critical conditions. Uncontrolled population growth and regional development have led to massive waste production. One popular practice in waste management is located at integrated waste management site (TPST). This practice has been implemented successfully by TPST Mustika Iklhas, a small community operation in Tangerang. Though different from previous operations, its success is achieved by active community participation, far away from government intervention. This study looks at management practices in TPST Mustika Ikhlas. The method used to address real and complex problems is called system dynamics. …

Endogenous Specification Of Fdi And Economic Growth: Cross–Economies Evidence, Hamid Eltgani Ali
Endogenous Specification Of Fdi And Economic Growth: Cross–Economies Evidence, Hamid Eltgani Ali
Faculty Journal Articles
By using panel data from the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) countries from 1980-2011, this article tests simultaneously for the endogenous association between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and economic growth by controlling FDI-growth deriving regressors. To control for the simultaneity bias, Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) estimators are used to test for our proposed simultaneous equation system. In addition, we verified the robustness of our results by using the Generalized-Method of Moments (GMM) by adding moment conditions under the assumption that the past value of the explanatory variables are uncorrelated with the error term. The results substantiated that …

Leadership, Gender And The Arab Media: A Perception Study Of Female Journalists In Egypt, Charles Wharton Kaye-Essien, Mai Ismail
Faculty Journal Articles
This article examines the factors contributing to the under-representation of women leaders in the Egyptian media. Whilst a plethora of research exist on women in the Arab media in general, very few have so far examined the extent of women’s representation in top media management positions particularly in Egypt. Based on empirical insights from 40 key informant interviews, this article finds that in their quest to become top media managers, Egyptian women journalists encounter a two-dimensional uphill battle—institutional and social discrimination. Institutional discrimination is evident in the absence of a legal and organizational environment to encourage women leadership. This includes …

A personalized approach based on a patient's or pathogen’s unique genomic sequence is the foundation of precision medicine. Genomic findings must be robust and reproducible, and experimental data capture should adhere to findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) guiding principles. Moreover, effective precision medicine requires standardized reporting that extends beyond wet-lab procedures to computational methods. The BioCompute framework (https://w3id.org/biocompute/1.3.0) enables standardized reporting of genomic sequence data provenance, including provenance domain, usability domain, execution domain, verification kit, and error domain. This framework facilitates communication and promotes interoperability. Bioinformatics computation instances that employ the BioCompute framework are easily relayed, repeated …

Magnitude Of Corruption, Rationalization, And Internal Control Quality: An Experimental Study On Subsequent Offense, Ertambang Nahartyo, Haryono Haryono
Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia
This research examines the extent to which the rationalization tactics model reflects the relation between magnitude of corruption and attitudes toward corruption. The rationalization model predicts that individuals will justify their corrupt acts and that rationalizations will affect subsequent offense depending upon the levels of internal control quality. Using a 2 X 2 between-subjects experiment with 170 public servants as participants, this research finds that individuals are more prone to accept and rationalize their corrupt acts in the gratuities context than in the bribery context. Further, this research finds that rationalizations lead to subsequent offense. However, this study cannot find …

This study seeks for alternative sources to identify intellectual capital disclosures. To determine intellectual capital disclosures voluntary (involuntary), we use website (online business media). This study uses companies in Kompas 100 during January – December 2017 as research samples. Intellectual capital disclosures measured by content analysis method. The results show that intellectual capital disclosures both voluntary and involuntary …

Legal And Non-Legal Agricultural Practices: Toward A Sustainable Future In Malaysia’S Palm Oil Industry, Hanim Kamaruddin, Harlida Abdul Wahab, Haslinda Mohd Anuar
Indonesia Law Review
As a major global producer of palm oil products, Malaysia is familiar with criticisms of its palm oil cultivation, poor agricultural practices and decisions during the planting process. Loss of biodiversity and deforestation resulting from unsustainable palm oil practices are perceived as major setbacks for the environment in Malaysia. However, at the same time as Malaysia stands committed to the palm oil industry and its contribution to job growth and poverty reduction, the relevant stakeholders are creating strategies for sustainable production. Together with relevant environmental laws to prevent and control impacts from climate change, loss of biodiversity and deforestation, environmental …

Women Rights Fulfillment As The Victim Of Gross Human Rights Violation: Urgency For The Sexual Violence Eradication Bill, Ani Purwanti, Rian Adhivira Prabowo
Indonesia Law Review
Heretofore in Indonesia, cases of gross violation of human rights have faced an indefinite stagnation of justice. Although the Indonesian government has ratified international human rights conventions and enacted its own system of human rights law, such laws have proven unable to fulfill the restoration of justice toward these victims in two particular aspects: convictions against the perpetrators and reparations for the victims. This article focuses on fulfilling the rights of women victims of past gross human rights violations. It will be based on normative legal research by which the existing laws are critically analyzed in order to expose the …
