This research aims to analyze information literacy skill of Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) (Indonesian Language for Foreign Student) at Universitas Indonesia in accordance with their foreign language learning need, Bahasa. BIPA students are foreign students who study Indonesian language as their foreign language or it can be called as Indonesian as Foreign Language (IFL). Most existing researches discuss English as foreign language/second language (EFL/ESL), but no research on information literacy related to Indonesian as foreign language/second language. Therefore, this research is going to fill the gap between the previously conducted researches on information literacy related to language skill. …
Mental Health Stigma And Help-Seeking In A College Sample: Barriers And Potential Motivators For Action, Christina H. Morris
Mental Health Stigma And Help-Seeking In A College Sample: Barriers And Potential Motivators For Action, Christina H. Morris
Honors College Theses
Stigma surrounding mental health is one of many barriers impeding help-seeking behavior. This study had two aims: (1) to examine the relationships between mental wellbeing, internalized stigma, help-seeking attitudes, and demographic variables such as race, gender, socioeconomic status, and marital status, and (2) to explore what hinders students in the help-seeking process and determine what would make students more likely to seek psychological help if they perceive a need for it. It was hypothesized that the relationship between internalized stigma and help-seeking attitudes would be moderated by gender, and the relationship between mental wellbeing and help-seeking attitudes would be mediated …

Documenting Agricultural Indigenous Knowledge And Provision Of Access Through Online Database Platform, Constant Okello-Obura
Documenting Agricultural Indigenous Knowledge And Provision Of Access Through Online Database Platform, Constant Okello-Obura
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The basic component of any country’s agricultural knowledge system is its agricultural indigenous knowledge (AIK). It encompasses the skills, experiences and insights of people, applied to maintain or improve their livelihood. Regrettably, today, many AIK systems are at risk of becoming extinct because of rapidly changing natural environments and fast pacing economic, political, and cultural changes on a global scale. Practices vanish if not documented and this curtails knowledge growth. Sometimes, many AIK practices disappear only because of the intrusion of foreign technologies that promise short-term gains or solutions. The tragedy of the impending disappearance of AIK is most obvious …
“Experimenting With Our Education” Or Enhancing It? Co-Teaching From The Perspective Of Students, Alyssa Harter, Laura Jacobi
“Experimenting With Our Education” Or Enhancing It? Co-Teaching From The Perspective Of Students, Alyssa Harter, Laura Jacobi
i.e.: inquiry in education
Previous research has explored the influence of co-teaching models on student learning in the K-12 grade curriculum. However, little research explores the effects of co-teaching models on college students. This study examines the benefits and drawbacks of co-teaching models in higher education from the perspective of students. Surveys with open questions pertaining to co-teaching and traditional approaches were used to collect data from 36 undergraduate students (17 students in a co-taught basic communication course and 19 students in a traditionally taught basic communication course) at a mid-sized Midwestern university. In addition, cognitive and affective learning scales were used to gather …

Patellofemoral Subgroups, A Low Cost Clinical Approach With A Surprise Or Two!, James Selfe
ISBS Proceedings Archive
Identification of subgroups within the patellofemoral pain (PFP) population has gained a lot of interest and attention from the research community in recent years due to the recognition of the relatively poor patient outcomes associated with the traditional multimodal approach. This presentation summarises the results of the Targeted Interventions for Patellofemoral Pain (TIPPs) programme of research that has led to the development of a robust simple hierarchical algorithm. The TIPPs algorithm uses objective data generated by six low cost clinical tests to categorise patients into one of three subgroups: a) Strong (22% of participants); b) Weak and Tight (39% of …

Coordination Variability Associated With Attendence To A Longitudinal Reducing Biofeedback Schedule, Franky Mulloy, David Mullineaux, Gareth Irwin, Genevieve William,S
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The aim of this paper was to assess skill exploration via coordinated variability (CoordVar) during attendance to a longitudinal, reducing biofeedback (BFb) intervention. Novices (n=15 BFb; n=15 Control) were introduced to a lunge touch task. Visual BFb were given on the timing and magnitude of rear leg kinematics. A modified CI2 method (CI2area) was used to quantify CoordVar for rear leg joint couplings. Coefficient of variability was used to quantify CoM horizontal velocity as performance variability (PerfVar). Linear regression 95% confidence intervals were compared between groups to assess changes over time. The BFb group demonstrated increasing CoordVar as a response …
Constraints-Led Approach To Coaching The Power Clean, Wesley Verhoeff, Sarah Kate Millar, Tony Oldham
Constraints-Led Approach To Coaching The Power Clean, Wesley Verhoeff, Sarah Kate Millar, Tony Oldham
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The purpose of this study was to apply a constraints-led approach to the acquisition of the power clean. Strength and conditioning coaches need to coach complex motor skills, where the common method involves explicit instruction and task decomposition. However, contemporary skill acquisition theory is in conflict with this explicit and reductionist approach. Through three case studies the examination of individualised task constraints were used to allow a self-organization process to skill development to take place. The constraints employed for the all three case studies achieved movement change in the predicted direction. In two of the three cases, the movement changes …
Using Expert Knowledge To Inform Multivariate Analyses, Tony Oldham, Sarah Kate Millar
Using Expert Knowledge To Inform Multivariate Analyses, Tony Oldham, Sarah Kate Millar
ISBS Proceedings Archive
This paper outlines methods and reasoning that advocate for the use of expert Coach and Athlete knowledge in support of mutivaraite analyses in Sport Biomechanincs and related disciplines. It argues that human movement research involving the collection of multiple dependent variables suffers similar problems to other areas of behavioural science, in that models proposed for analyses are inadequately constrained by other data and are vulnerable to a-posteori modification that lacks sound theoretical or evidential justification. An approach is presented where expert accounts of how successful movements are performed are captured and analysed qualitatively, in order to present data themes …

The Effects Of Focus Of Attention On The Learning Of The Clean Weightlifting Technique In Novices, Adrian R. Rivadulla, Tim J. Lawrenson, Ezio Preatoni
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of different focus of attention (FOA) feedback on the learning of the clean weightlifting technique. Sixteen participants naive to the task were divided into two groups (external and internal FOA) and attended three sessions of learning. Bar and lifter kinematics were measured prior to and after learning, and retention and transfer tests were performed seven days after protocol completion. Internal FOA feedback promoted greater reduction of the distance between the bar and the lifter’s body, whereas both types of feedback were found to be equally effective at modifying hip, knee …

Comparison Of Biomechanical Data Of A Sprint Cyclist In The Velodrome And In The Laboratory, Louise Burnie
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The aim of this study was to develop a reliable testing method to measure biomechanical variables that describe sprint cycling performance on a velodrome track, compared to on an ergometer in a laboratory. Seven elite track sprint cyclists performed sprints on an isokinetic ergometer in a laboratory and over half lap distances in a velodrome. Key biomechanical variables characterising sprint cycling were measured. Relatively small differences in the variables were found between the ergometer and track sprints. However the static task constraints of ergometer cycling led the cyclists to adopt a different position which seemed to allow them to increase …

Relationship Between Student Academic Achievement And Gender Of Campus Administrator, Pam Winn, Susan Erwin, Jim Gentry, Mary Cauble
School Leadership Review
Studies of the effectiveness of women’s leadership have been recommended by researchers for over three decades (e.g. Eckman, 2004; Edson, 1988; Schmuck, 1981; Shakeshaft, 1989). Burke & Nelson (2002) and Smulyan (2000) have suggested that a woman’s leadership experience is fundamentally influenced by gender. As greater numbers of women fill educational administration positions previously held by men (Addi-Raccah, 2006; Rusch & Marshall, 2006), opportunities to study leadership differences and effectiveness of men and women in meeting unique demands of their campuses can be measured. Although issues related to women leaders in superintendent positions have been explored (Tallerico, 1999; Brunner, 1999; …

School Leadership Review
In light of increased accountability for K-12 student achievement, critics have questioned the quality of teachers and school principals as well as the university programs that prepare them for these roles (Lambert, 1996; Levine, 2005; Murphy, 1992). Regarding the preparation of teachers, critics have stated that education courses are vapid, impractical, segmented, and directionless (Glenn, 2000). Two national reports that have made recommendations for teacher redesign are noteworthy. The report of the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future, What matters most: Teaching for America’s future (Lambert, 1996), found that teacher preparation education is thin and fragmented and recommended that …

Dimensions Of Educational Leadership: Cultural, Ethical, And Moral, Richard A. Gregory
School Leadership Review
Given the current state of affairs in the school districts of America, almost any observer could proclaim that a change in policy and leadership is urgently needed. The national pundits and politicians continue to blame the usual suspects: entrenched school cultures, teacher unions, shortened school years, and administrative bloat, to name a few. National educational leadership organizations (NCPEA, UCEA, and AASA) are hard at work defining a Knowledge Base (KB) for the training of educational leaders of the future.
While this author certainly applauds the efforts of these professional organizations, there are some things that university professors can do within …

Investigating The Relationship Between Movement Variability, Skill Acquisition And Adaptability, Paul G. Taylor, Kwee-Yum Lee, Raul Landeo, Damien M. O'Meara, Emma L. Millett, Mark P. Moresi, David A. Greene
ISBS Proceedings Archive
Facilitating adaptability is a role attributed to movement variability. The aim of this investigation was to track changes in movement variability during the learning of a novel task where adaptability was expected to be present. A contextual interference design was implemented with sample entropy and vector coding used to quantify joint and coordination variability respectively. Those exposed to high contextual interference were significantly better performed and more adaptable. Significant decreases in coordination variability were found during the learning process for all participants. The more adaptable group also exhibited higher coordination variability at key points providing some support for previous hypotheses …
