Professional Practices Fall 2018, Lu Colby Nov 2018

Professional Practices Fall 2018, Lu Colby

Professional Practices (ART 399)

Complications with infertility and the states of despondency that come with it are themes that I personally connect with. When reflecting on what it means, personally, to be a woman I have always associated these thoughts with motherhood and home. I attempt to reflect on these thoughts and explore them through my work.

I dissect and experiment with these concepts through the use and symbolism of apples. The apple has many layers of symbolism and even biblical references as the forbidden fruit. The apple is said to be a symbol of knowledge, immortality, temptation, and the fall of man. It …

Welcome To My World, Sarah Mccann Nov 2018

Welcome To My World, Sarah Mccann

Professional Practices (ART 399)

My work revolves around two dimensional drawings on small 9”x12” smooth Bristol Paper. In a sense I’m more of a traditional artist; I prefer to use Prismacolor Pencils, Watercolors, Copic Markers, Micron Pens, and White Gel Pens in my art. Not only have I created lots of drawings, but I have also painted a bit; about a year ago I had a piece put up on display at an Art Center in my hometown called the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts. Quite recently I have been into Digital art; I like to use the free software known as GIMP …

Increasing global population has caused increased energy demand for our daily needs such as household appliances, portable electronic devices, automobiles, aerospace vehicles and industrial equipment’s. It is an urgent need of our current technological world to produce and store the energy efficiently and in eco-friendly way. Fuel cells and supercapacitors are among widely used energy conversion and storage devices. To survive our growing needs, this thesis is extensively focused towards advanced energy material with multifunctional …

Risks Of Excess Iodine Intake In Ghana: Current Situation, Challenges, And Lessons For The Future, Brenda A.Z. Abu, Wilna Oldewage‐Theron,, Richmond N.O. Aryeetey

Articles

In Ghana, iodine deficiency was first reported in 1994 among 33% of the population. A nationwide Universal Salt Iodization (USI) program plus other complementary interventions were subsequently implemented as a response. Our paper reviews the current risks of excess iodine status in Ghana and identifies policy and research gaps. A mixed methods review of 12 policies and institutional reports and 13 peer‐reviewed articles was complemented with consultations with 23 key informants (salt producers and distributors, food processors, regulatory agency officials, and healthcare providers) purposively sampled between May and August 2017. The findings show a strong policy environment indicated by regulations …

Wireless Synchronization Of Multi-Protocol Access Points, Fred Anderson, Paul Stager, Matt Silverman

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are described herein for leveraging observation receivers on Access Points (APs) to listen in-band to transmissions in the band of another AP. This enables performing time synchronization between devices without requiring any packet exchanges between devices to accomplish the synchronization.

Integrating Repellent And Attractant Semiochemicals Into A Push–Pull Strategy For Ambrosia Beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Christopher T. Werle, Christopher M. Ranger, Peter B. Schultz, Michael E. Reding, Karla M. Addesso, Jason B. Oliver, Blair J. Sampson Nov 2018

Integrating Repellent And Attractant Semiochemicals Into A Push–Pull Strategy For Ambrosia Beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Christopher T. Werle, Christopher M. Ranger, Peter B. Schultz, Michael E. Reding, Karla M. Addesso, Jason B. Oliver, Blair J. Sampson

Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Faculty Research

Non‐native ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), especially Xylosandrus compactus (Eichhoff), Xylosandrus crassiusculus (Motschulsky) and Xylosandrus germanus (Blandford), are destructive wood‐boring pests of trees in ornamental nurseries and tree fruit orchards. Previous studies have demonstrated the adults are repelled by verbenone and strongly attracted to ethanol. We tested a “push–pull” semiochemical strategy in Ohio, Virginia and Mississippi using verbenone emitters to “push” beetles away from vulnerable trees and ethanol lures to “pull” them into annihilative traps. Container‐grown trees were flood‐stressed to induce ambrosia beetle attacks and then deployed in the presence or absence of verbenone emitters and a perimeter of ethanol‐baited interception …

The Desensitizing Role Of Media Violence And Emotion Dysregulation In Emotional And Behavioral Responses To A Violent Game, Suji Park Nov 2018

The Desensitizing Role Of Media Violence And Emotion Dysregulation In Emotional And Behavioral Responses To A Violent Game, Suji Park

Doctoral Dissertations

Previous video game research has not focused on personality variables that may result in variations within aggression after playing a violent game as much. This study is to investigate the role of emotion dysregulation, trait empathy, and previous exposure to violent media in explaining the effects of game play on emotional and behavioral responses, including immersion, guilt, enjoyment, and physically aggressive intentions. In addition, this study examines potential links among violent media use and psychological variables: previous violent TV viewing, previous violent game play, emotion dysregulation, and empathy. The theoretical explanation of the General Aggression Model—specifically, desensitization effects of media …

Customers’ Responses To Employee Extra Attention, Yoshimasa Kageyama, Albert Barreda Nov 2018

Customers’ Responses To Employee Extra Attention, Yoshimasa Kageyama, Albert Barreda

College of Natural and Applied Sciences

Focusing on positive service experiences, this study examined the relationships among employee extra attention, customers delight, and customer repurchase intentions. The target sample that had a positive interaction with an employee in the recent six months was invited to participate in the survey. The data analysis was performed in two steps: 1) Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and 2) Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results suggested that employees’ extra attention affects customer delight. Subsequently, customer delight has a positive relationship with customer repurchase intentions. Furthermore, employee extra attention has a positive relationship with customer repurchase intentions. The finding of the study …
