Raising The Bars: Re-Imagining Nursing Education Through Partnerships With Prisons, Mary T. Bouchaud, Madeline Brooks
Nursing Education Research Conference (NERC)
Prisons provide an ideal experience to prepare nursing students for today's non-traditional model of healthcare. By serving marginalized populations in restricted settings, students learn about population health while honing clinical skills. One college of nursing collected eleven years of feedback showing that students consider a prison clinical, safe and unique.

Telling A Rape Joke: Performing Humor In A Victim Help Center, Angela Mary Candela
Telling A Rape Joke: Performing Humor In A Victim Help Center, Angela Mary Candela
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the function of humor as a discourse in discussion of sexual battery. In this study, I examine the ways sexual battery, consent, and victimization are social constructed. Humor is a form of discourse where individuals are allowed to speak more freely about taboo topics, including that of sexual battery. I examine humor within presentations given from a Victim Help Center. Using field notes, slides, videos, and audio-recordings, I analyze instances of humor within the presentations. I analyze the data multimodally, in order to provide a richer, qualitative analysis. In this thesis, I argue that humor observed in …
The Right To Counsel But Not The Presence Of Counsel: A Survey Of State Criminal Procedures For Pre-Trial Release, John P. Gross
The Right To Counsel But Not The Presence Of Counsel: A Survey Of State Criminal Procedures For Pre-Trial Release, John P. Gross
Florida Law Review
There is a widely-held belief that the state provides counsel to indigent criminal defendants at their initial appearance in state court. However, the majority of states do not provide counsel to indigent defendants at their initial appearance when a judicial officer determines conditions of pretrial release. State criminal procedure codes fail to provide the same procedural protections that defendants have in federal court. Indeed, states systems are characterized by predictive determinations regarding guilt, an overemphasis on the potential dangerousness of defendants, a lack of adequate pretrial services, and continued reliance on financial securities.
The U.S. Supreme Court has done little …

Equity Culture And Decent Work: The Case Of Amazon (2017), Marcy Murninghan
New England Journal of Public Policy
Every year, publicly traded companies hold annual meetings at which management presents a summary of the year’s accomplishments and shareholders vote on a slate of ballot issues, referred to as “proxy resolutions,” that are placed there by either management or shareholders. As in public life, in theory this form of corporate governance relies on a division of authority and checks and balances among shareholders, the board of directors, and company management. In theory, shareholders function much like registered voters, boards serve as their elected representatives, and management operates much like the executive branch to carry out the mandates accorded to …

Five Steps To A Better U: Improving The Crime-Fighting Visa, Jason A. Cade, Meghan L. Flanagan
Five Steps To A Better U: Improving The Crime-Fighting Visa, Jason A. Cade, Meghan L. Flanagan
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
Congress created the U nonimmigrant status to assist noncitizen vic- tims of serious crime and to encourage them to assist law enforce- ment in the investigation of that crime. Despite these laudable goals, the process has been flawed since the outset. U visas were capped at 10,000 per year, eventually precipitating a multi-year backlog that diminishes the incentive to report crime for persons who fear depor- tation. Of particular importance, the willingness of law enforcement officers to provide a certification of helpfulness—a mandatory com- ponent of an application for U status—varies tremendously across agencies. Eligibility for U status is thus …

The Changing Role Of Natural Gas In Nigeria, Giovanni Occhiali, Giacomo Falchetta
The Changing Role Of Natural Gas In Nigeria, Giovanni Occhiali, Giacomo Falchetta
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Nigeria is richly endowed with energy resources, and the Government has been making large profits from their export. However, windfall revenues have also been affecting the Government’s responsiveness and accountability towards the people and they have brought it into collusive relationship with international oil and gas companies operating in the country. A skewed distribution of petroleum resources costs and benefits, as well as the dependence on exports exposing the public finances to volatility in the international markets have represented further major issues. As a result, energy access and power generation still represent urgent issues for action in the country. Solid …
Lawyer As Soothsayer: Exploring The Important Role Of Outcome Prediction In The Practice Of Law, Mark K. Osbeck
Lawyer As Soothsayer: Exploring The Important Role Of Outcome Prediction In The Practice Of Law, Mark K. Osbeck
Law & Economics Working Papers
Outcome prediction has always been an important part of practicing law. Clients rely heavily on their attorneys to provide accurate assessments of the potential legal consequences they face when making important decisions (such as whether to accept a plea bargain, or risk a conviction on a much more serious offense at trial). And yet, notwithstanding its enormous importance to the practice of law (and notwithstanding the handsome legal fees it commands), outcome prediction in the law remains a very imprecise endeavor.
The reason for this inaccuracy is that the three principal tools lawyers have traditionally relied on to facilitate outcome …
