An Acute Non-Traumatic Rib Fracture Detected By Ultrasound And A Reviewarticle Of The Literature, Tze Chao Wee, Chueh-Hung Wu, Tyng-Guey Wang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Ultrasound is increasingly used for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly in soft tissue injuries. In some cases, it is useful for the evaluation of fractures. A 54-year-old woman presented with focal a non-traumatic right-sided chest pain. Physical examination revealed a focal area of tenderness on palpation. Erect chest X-ray was unremarkable. A focused musculoskeletal ultrasound was carried out to examine the area of tenderness and a rib fracture which was not detected on the erect chest X-ray was diagnosed during sonographic examination. A brief literature reviewarticle on the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of fracture, in particular rib …

Return To Work And Health Management In Patients With Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorder: Literature Reviewarticle, Yi-Chieh Lien, Jang-Ting Wei, Yi-Shiung Horng
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are cumulative traumatic disorders that result from work-related ergonomic factors, such as repetitive motion, forceful exertion, awkward posture, holding a vibrating tool, and working in an environment that causes whole-body vibration. These risk factors may induce tendinitis, tenosynovitis, entrapment neuropathy, bursitis, meniscus tear, and even herniation of the lumbar intervertebral disc. WRMSDs may not only affect a patient's health and quality of life but also entail substantial economic and labor costs. Methods for early diagnosis of WRMSDs and management of workplace risk factors must be determined. In addition, vocational rehabilitation should be offered to individuals with …
Accuracy Of Residual Urinary Volume Measurements In Patients With Neurogenic Bladder When Using A Portable Ultrasound Bladder Scanner, Yao-Hung Yang, Chung-Yao Chen
Accuracy Of Residual Urinary Volume Measurements In Patients With Neurogenic Bladder When Using A Portable Ultrasound Bladder Scanner, Yao-Hung Yang, Chung-Yao Chen
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Estimating the post-voiding residual urine amount is essential for managing patients with neurogenic bladder. Accurate post-voiding residual urine estimation provides guidance for the appropriate frequency of catheter drainage and reduces the rate of urinary tract infection. Although urethral catheterization is the most accurate method of estimating post-voiding residual urine, a bladder scanner-a noninvasive portable ultrasound device-constitutes an alternative method. In this study, we retrospectively reviewarticleed the residual urine amount in patients with neurogenic bladder of different etiologies using a bladder scanner and urethral catheterization. Data for 144 bladder scans and urethral catheterizations in 39 patients were analyzed, revealing that the …

Idiopathic Thoracic Intradural Spinal Arachnoid Cyst Associated With Syringomyelia: A Casereport And Literature Reviewarticle, Jou Yu Lin, Michael Mu Huo Teng, Fu-Kong Lieu, Szu-Fu Chen
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
We report an adult woman who presented with lower limb weakness and dysesthesia caused by a thoracic spinal arachnoid cyst associated with syringomyelia. Before the diagnosis was made by thoracic magnetic resonance imaging, she was diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis and underwent lumbar spinal surgery; however, her symptoms were not relieved. The patient received multilevel laminectomy and cyst resection after thoracic pathology was identified. An upper motor neuron lesion, although rare, should be considered a differential diagnosis when leg symptoms and signs develop. For patients with leg weakness and pain, we emphasize a detailed neurological examination to localize the lesion to …
The Spirituality Of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: A Case Study, Stephen B. Morris Ph.D.
The Spirituality Of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: A Case Study, Stephen B. Morris Ph.D.
Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
Although psychodynamic psychotherapy is effective and can be done briefly, it has fallen out of favor, especially with religiously oriented psychotherapists—including Latter-day Saint psychotherapists. The client in this case study is a 50-year-old, middle-class, Caucasian member of the Church. Using the case study as a framework, this paper describes and illustrates how psychodynamic psychotherapy can be seen as a spiritual endeavor that is compatible with both a traditional Christian orientation and a Latter-day Saint orientation. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first case report of psychodynamic psychotherapy with a Latter-day Saint client. This report may form part of the …

Patience As A Development Virtue And Common Therapeutic Factor, Vaughn E. Worthen Ph.D.
Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
This article provides an overview of patience and its associated constructs by examining its role in five domains: (a) confidence and control; (b) distress tolerance; (c) relationship development, maintenance, and repair; (d) character development; and (e) spiritual maturation. It highlights initial evidence that patience contributes to increased self-regulation and impulse control, distress tolerance, self-compassion, mindfulness, empathy in relationships, perspective taking, use of cognitive reappraisals, prosocial ori- entation, character development, and spiritual maturation. Patience helps with coping with anxiety and depression, aids with handling uncertainty, facilitates relationship maintenance and repair, and sustains the ability to manage the ambiguities present during faith …

Using A Game To Improve Phishing Awareness, Patrickson Weanquoi, Jaris Johnson, Jinghua Zhang
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Cybersecurity education has become increasingly critical as we spend more of our everyday lives online. Research shows that college students are mostly unaware of the many online dangers. To teach students about cybersecurity using their preferred medium, gaming, we developed an educational 2D game called “Bird’s Life” that aims to teach college students, as well as general interest individuals, about phishing. Players will come to understand phishing attacks and how to avoid them in real-world scenarios through a fun gaming context. The game can be deployed to multiple platforms such as PC, web, and mobile devices. To measure the effect …

Social Representations Of Mental Illness Among The Serang Regency Ciomas Community In Indonesia, Edira Putri, Ferdinand Prawiro
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
How mental illness is perceived by the members of a particular society will determine their treatment of those they regard as mentally ill. A primary factor which shapes the understanding of mental disorders and those who suffer from them are the social discourses that revolve around them as social objects. This study was conducted in order to understand the social representation of mental disorders among community members of Ciomas Subdistrict in Serang, Banten, and how the community as a social group views mental disorders and related physical restraints through social discourse. The dynamics of common understandings of mental disorder was …

Psychometric Properties Of Parenting Measures In Indonesia, Yulina [email protected] Riany, Monica Cuskelly, Pamela Meredith
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
We examined the psychometric properties of two parenting measures, the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) and the Parent-Child Relationships Questionnaire (PCRQ) which were translated into Indonesian for use in Indonesia. The Indonesian versions of these questionnaires were completed by 514 parents and 459 parents, respectively. Participants were parents (mostly mothers) of typically developing children, who completed the measures through an online or paper-based survey. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), parallel analyses, internal and external construct validity, and internal reliability were performed on both measures. Results revealed that the translated version of the PSDQ consisted of three factors. Two of these factors reflected …

Comparative Analysis Of Hibiscus Sabdariffa (Roselle) Hot And Cold Extracts In Respect To Their Potential For Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibition, Mohamed Ali Farag
Faculty Journal Articles
Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a functional food with potential health benefits, consumed either as hot or cold beverage. To ensure quality control of its various products, accurate measurement of active metabolites is warranted. Herein, we propose a combination of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analytical platforms for the untargeted characterization of metabolites in two roselle cultivars, Aswan and Sudan-1. The analyses revealed 33 metabolites, including sugars, flavonoids, anthocyanins, phenolic and aliphatic organic acids. Their relative contents in cultivars were assessed via principle component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal projection to latent structures analysis (OPLS). Impact …

The VP40 protein plays a critical role in coordinating the virion assembly, budding, and replication of the Ebola virus. Efforts have been made in recent years to understand various aspects of VP40 structure, dynamics, and function such as assembly of the protein and its roles in virus replication and penetration of the protein into the plasma membrane. A major conformational transformation is necessary for VP40 to form some of its oligomeric structures and to perform various functions. This conformational change from a compact structure with the N-terminal domain (NTD) and C-terminal domain (CTD) closely associated involves a dissociation or springing-out …

The Impact Of Music Games On The Social Interaction Of Elderly Occupants In The Communal Room Of A Nursing Home, Yusaumi Ramadhanti Fitri Taufik, Prabu Wardono, G. Prasetya Adhitama
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
Being elderly is a stage of life characterized by physiological, psychological and social maturity, and degradation. Initial observation has revealed that the elderly rarely interact with other elderly people in communal rooms and activities. Furthermore, they tend to enjoy activities related to music the most. The presence of a stimulus based on hobbies in a communal room through a music game was expected to revitalize spatial function and increase the elderly’s life quality. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of a music game and identify the elements thereof, which can influence the elderly’s social interaction in …
