Syngas is a reliable energy source derived from the gasification of coal and other solid fuels. The feedstock type and the production process of syngas can affect the composition of syngas. Gas turbines utilizing high hydrogen content (HHC) fuels like syngas for power generation applications need to meet stringent pollutant emission standards, particularly with respect to nitrogen oxides (NOx). For gas turbine conditions, reliable experimental data, especially at high-pressure, is necessary for both generating accurate NOx prediction models and improving reaction pathways regarding the NOx chemistry. In this study, NOx formation in post-flame gases of syngas combustion at different conditions …

Role Of Mammary Microenvironment In Promoting Left-Right Differences In Tumor Progression, Metastasis, And Therapeutic Response, Huda Issa Atiya Jan 2018

Role Of Mammary Microenvironment In Promoting Left-Right Differences In Tumor Progression, Metastasis, And Therapeutic Response, Huda Issa Atiya

Theses and Dissertations

Metastasis is the main cause of death in breast cancer patients; however, there are currently no treatments available to treat or prevent metastasis. This is in part because regulators of metastasis are not yet fully understood. Over the past century researchers began to study metastasis regulators by different hypotheses, such as the seed and soil hypothesis which focuses on studying the role of cancer cells, the seeds, and the tissue microenvironment, the soil, in regulating metastasis. Although lots of studies have focused on the microenvironment of metastatic sites and their roles in regulating metastasis, limited studies have focused on the …

Regulation Of Cytoplasmic Dynein By Lis1 And Adenomatous Polyposis Coli, Timothy Joshua Hines Jan 2018

Regulation Of Cytoplasmic Dynein By Lis1 And Adenomatous Polyposis Coli, Timothy Joshua Hines

Theses and Dissertations

Cytoplasmic dynein 1 (dynein) is a microtubule motor that plays a role in mitosis, cell migration, and minus-end directed microtubule-based transport. The lissencephaly protein, Lis1, and its binding partner, Ndel1, are critical regulators of cytoplasmic dynein (Niethammer et al., 2000). In humans, haploinsufficiency of Lis1 leads to lissencephaly, a devastating developmental neurological disorder characterized by severe brain malformation, leading to cognitive and motor defects, and progressively worsening seizures (Dobyns et al., 1993). While Lis1 is known to play a role in regulating dynein-dependent functions such as neuronal migration and mitotic spindle orientation during development, the protein is still highly expressed …

State Specific Poverty Thresholds Adjusted For Cost Of Living Differences, Melissa Gentry Jan 2018

State Specific Poverty Thresholds Adjusted For Cost Of Living Differences, Melissa Gentry

Theses and Dissertations

While poverty is undoubtedly one of the most widely used domestic indicators of social wellbeing, its measurement has a critical shortcoming. Using national poverty thresholds ignores the potential differences in the cost of living across states. States use the national poverty threshold when conducting poverty research and assessing community demographics. Theoretically price level differences between states could mean that, if poverty thresholds were adjusted for cost-of-living by state, the adjusted poverty rate could be different than the official poverty rate Using data specific to individual states that can be found in the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, geographically specific thresholds …
