Populations At Risk For Cervical Cancer, Chantal Boyd, Danielle Dodd
Populations At Risk For Cervical Cancer, Chantal Boyd, Danielle Dodd
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract: This integrative literature review discusses the possible negative effects of the current cervical cancer screening guidelines enforced by the U.S. Preventative Task Force. Potential negative effects of guidelines are examined to determine the need for a more personalized approach in future cervical cancer screening guidelines. The purpose of this integrated literature review is to identify women at greater risk for developing breast cancer and their need to have more frequent screenings. The U.S. Preventative Task Force currently only requires frequent cervical cancer screenings in women who are immunocompromised, due to diseases such as HIV, or women who are diagnosed …

Some Characterizations Of Inverted Beta And Inverted Beta Lindley Distributions, N. M. Kilany, M. Atallah
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
Characterization results have great importance in statistics and probability applications. A probability distribution can be characterized through various methods. In this paper, we have considered Inverted Beta and Inverted Beta Lindley distributions and characterized them based on a truncated moments and hazard function.
Spotlighting Stigma And Barriers: Examining Secondary Students’ Attitudes Toward School Counseling Services, Richard Auger, Nick R. Abel, Brandie M. Oliver
Spotlighting Stigma And Barriers: Examining Secondary Students’ Attitudes Toward School Counseling Services, Richard Auger, Nick R. Abel, Brandie M. Oliver
Scholarship and Professional Work – Education
Student attitudes toward accessing school counseling services were the focus of a survey of 3,584 middle school and high school students. Respondents identified barriers to seeking help from school counselors, including stigma, a desire to manage problems themselves, a lack of a positive relationship with their school counselor, and a concern that the counselor would not keep disclosures confidential. This study also examined the impact of gender, age, and race/ethnicity on students’ willingness to seek help from their school counselor. We present implications for practice and future research.

Hidden Curriculum Awareness: A Comparison Of Engineering Faculty, Graduate Students, And Undergraduates, Idalis Villanueva, Marialuisa Di Stefano, Laura Gelles, Katherine Youmans
Engineering Education Faculty Publications
In order for an engineering academic body (e.g., facultyand students) to navigate their surroundings, they must first become aware of the hidden curriculum around them. Hidden curriculum represents how particular assumptions, values, attitudes, and beliefs about schooling manifests in practice. When understood, these types of lessons or messages allow students, faculty, and staff to more easily navigate the academic and socio-political customs needed for success.
As part of a larger study, a total of 224 participants across 57 engineering programs in the United States and Latin America were asked to comment on a survey that asked respondents about the expectations …

Eye Examination:Satisfying A Quality Care Measure In Diabetes, Meera Shekar
Dissertations
Abstract
Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a microvascular complication occurs in patients with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus (DM). A known risk of increased visual impairment associated with DM occurs in patients when the glycosylated hemoglobin level (HbA1c) increases over 7.0%. Therefore, an annual retinal assessment as a quality care measure in diabetes management is necessary. The conducted study aimed to evaluate the documentation of an annual eye exam in all patients with DM in a private family practice clinic and to investigate any possible association between HbA1c level.
Method: This quality improvement study included a retrospective medical record review in …

An Evaluation Of Implementing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocol Throughout The Perioperative Phase: A Quality Improvement Initiative To Enhance Patient Outcomes After Colorectal Surgery, Jerica Hill Dnp
Doctoral Projects
Abstract: The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol (ERAS) is a multimodal collaborative approach implemented throughout the perioperative phase to enhance patient outcomes. The key mechanism for effectiveness in the ERAS protocol is the attenuation of the surgical stress response combined with treatments that support the return of functions that delay recovery in traditional methods. The purpose of this scholarly project was to evaluate the results of the ERAS Pilot program currently initiated at Baptist Memorial Hospital to improve patient outcomes undergoing major abdominal surgery. Prior to the implementation of the ERAS protocol there was no standardized method in place at …

Street Life And The Built Environment In An Auto-Oriented Us Region, Keunhyun Park, Reid Ewing, Sadegh Sabouri, Jon Larsen
Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Faculty Publications
Urban planners and designers believe that the built environment at various geographic scales affects pedestrian activity, but have limited empirical evidence at the street scale, to support their claims. We are just beginning to identify and measure the qualities that generate active street life, and this paper builds on the first few studies to do so. This study measures street design qualities and surrounding urban form variables for 881 block faces in Salt Lake County, Utah, and relates them to pedestrian counts. This is the largest such study to date and includes suburbs as well as cities. At the neighborhood …

Motivation Predicts Self-Control Of Racial Bias After Viewing Alcohol Advertisements, Zachary Wolfgang Petzel
Motivation Predicts Self-Control Of Racial Bias After Viewing Alcohol Advertisements, Zachary Wolfgang Petzel
Dissertations
Exerting self-control shifts motivation toward rewarding cues (i.e., approach motivation) and impairs control of racial bias. However, whether approach motivation predicts deficits in control of racial bias is unknown. Exertion of self-control is also related to alcohol use, but whether exerting self-control shifts motivation toward alcohol-related cues is not established. Similar to exerting self-control, viewing alcohol-related cues shifts motivation and promotes racial bias. The current study examined the interaction between exerting self-control and viewing alcohol-related cues on approach motivation and its influence on racial bias. Participants (N = 71) exerted (or did not exert) self-control and then viewed neutral …
