A Systematic Reviewarticle Of Turning Difficulties In Individuals With Stroke, Pei-Yi Chou, Shu-Chun Lee
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Introduction: Making turn is a challenging task that is reported as one of the activities that most frequently leads to fall in stroke patients. Among community-dwelling older adults, hip fractures are eight times more likely to result from falls while making turns than from falls while walking straight. The stroke patients have asymmetric posture and movements due to hemiparesis, thus their turning performance may varied depending on the direction of the turn. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic reviewarticle was to summarize the characteristics of turning after stroke and discuss the possible neuromuscular mechanisms of turning difficulties. Methods: Searches of …

The universal health social security program in Indonesia began in 2014, and as of the present day, many people are now covered by it. However, many weaknesses in the system have been pointed out. Significantly, many people do not possess the necessary health cards to take advantage of the program due to the complicated process one must go through in order to obtain them. Even now, 60 million people have not joined the program. Many people do not rely solely on the universal social security program but may be supported primarily or additionally by the vernacular care system, whereby support …

Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), a model protein, was used to study the relationship between the free radical production and oxidative properties in the microwave field. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) trapping with 5,5-dimethyl-l-pyrrolin N-oxide (DMPO) was used for the detection of free radical produced by BSA under different microwave treatment conditions. The signal intensity of free radicals arose from BSA solution via the increasing of power, temperature, and time after microwave irradiation. By measuring the carbonyl, thiol and surface hydrophobic oxidative properties of BSA under different microwave temperatures. It was showed that the carbonyl content increased, the thiol content decreased, and …

Policy And Practice Recommendations For Nurse Practitioner-Led Medicare Annualwellness Visits, Vicki Simpson
School of Nursing Faculty Publications
Reasons for underutilization are related to personal, organizational, structural, and system barriers and challenges for beneficiaries and providers. Beneficiaries are often unaware of the availability of this visit (or the fact that it is free). They may not understand the value of nor attach strong importance to a visit solely focused upon prevention. Providers report being confused and overwhelmed regarding AWV requirements and guidelines, leading to ambivalence concerning visit implementation (Bluestein, Diduk-Smith, Jordan, Persaud, & Hughes, 2017, Cuenca, Lozoya-Flores, et al., 2012, Simpson, Edwards et al., 2018). Most practices lack an efficient and effective workflow to support implementation of AWVs, …

Shining Light On Hibernator Genomes: Using Radiation To Reveal Dna Damage And Repair Dynamics In Arctic Ground Squirrels, Krysta L. Yancey
Biological Sciences
Mammalian hibernation is characterized by dynamic changes in metabolism and body temperature; it may be sustained for up to nine months in some species. The majority of hibernation is spent in torpor, a dormant state, which is regularly interrupted by brief periods of activity referred to as interbout arousal. Upon arousal thermogenesis begins in vascularized fat and ends with whole-body shivering until the animal reaches a body temperature around 36-37 °C. Interbout arousal is usually less than a day long and is commonly thought to be necessary for maintenance and repair of tissues, in addition to the cycling and replenishment …

Evaluating The Legality Of Age-Based Criteria In Health Care: From Nondiscrimination And Discretion To Distributive Justice, Govind Persad
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
Recent disputes over whether older people should pay more for health insurance, or receive lower priority for transplantable organs, highlight broader disagreements regarding the legality of using age-based criteria in health care. These debates will likely intensify given the changing age structure of the American population and the turmoil surrounding the financing of American health care. This Article provides a comprehensive examination of the legality and normative desirability of age-based criteria. In the Article, I defend a distributive justice approach to age-based criteria. Rather than viewing age as a personal characteristic akin to race or religion, the distributive justice approach …
