Kissing Rugby Broken Nose, Rebecca Smith
USU Student Folklore Fieldwork
RS: Have you guys ever heard of kissing rugby?
WC: No.
RS: It’s hilarious. What you do is all the girls from one long line- everyone is sitting on the ground, and the girls are all given letters of the alphabet “A” though whatever it goes to , and then the boys sit in a long line facing the girls but about 25 feet apart and they all get numbers, “1” to whatever. Then there’s a person that’s sitting in the middle between the 2 lines and they call out a letter and a number. If it’s a girl in …

Help! An Insight Into Long Distance Romantic Relationship Advice Sought Online, Brendan John Murphy
Help! An Insight Into Long Distance Romantic Relationship Advice Sought Online, Brendan John Murphy
Master of Arts in Media and Communication Plan II Graduate Projects
The purpose of this study was to examine the long-distance romantic relationship (LDRR) advice sought online and see how it relates to previous literature. Reddit posts from the r/LongDistance subreddit were narrowed using an advanced search to find the most popular (upvoted) advice from users. Qualitative, contextual analysis research was used to search for reoccurring themes throughout the advice sought. Results revealed that feelings of uncertainty and anxiety were very common within LDRR, and advice was sought about how to maintain relationships whilst living apart.

Seven Factors That Influence The Effectiveness Of International Development, Jaylyn Perry
Seven Factors That Influence The Effectiveness Of International Development, Jaylyn Perry
Senior Honors Theses
This literature review analyzes the global issue of poverty and the various factors that are influencing the ability of nations to effectively achieve development. The many interpretations of what development is, as well as the categories and forms of poverty, are examined to show the scope of the issue. Seven factors: politics, economics, institutions, culture, geography, aid, and globalization are explored as to their impact on the effectiveness of development around the world. The review of the literature found that effective development is influenced by each one of these factors and it is necessary to consider them when planning and …

Student homelessness is a large problem, as the students’ financial hardships heavily affect their education. This ultimately ruins several opportunities that the average student usually has such as going to college or pursuing a career. Without their education, they are less likely to get out of their predicament. They also more likely to be exposed to dangerous activities, such as crimes and sex trafficking

Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Among Sexual Minority Youth: An Etiological And Treatment Overview, Lauren C. Smithee, Brock W. Sumner, Roy A. Bean
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Among Sexual Minority Youth: An Etiological And Treatment Overview, Lauren C. Smithee, Brock W. Sumner, Roy A. Bean
Faculty Publications
Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among sexual minority youth (SMY) is a problem that is growing in attention yet is understudied and requires an informed response from therapists who engage in clinical work with youth. This paper proposes a unique model of treatment for working with SMY who engage in NSSI, accounting for proximal, distal, and systemic factors that influence the etiology of NSSI. This model is based on a review of two bodies of clinical literature: (a) treating adolescent NSSI and (b) working with SMY and their families. As an etiological theory of self-harm, Nock (2009) is applied to SMY, factoring …
Divisibility Properties Of Coefficients Of Modular Functions Of Genus Zero Levels, Merrill Warnick
Divisibility Properties Of Coefficients Of Modular Functions Of Genus Zero Levels, Merrill Warnick
Undergraduate Honors Theses
We prove divisibility results for the Fourier coefficients of canonical basis elements for the spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 0 and levels 6, 10, 12, 18 with poles only at the cusp at infinity. In addition, we show that these Fourier coefficients satisfy Zagier duality in all weights, and give a general formula for the generating functions of such canonical bases for all genus zero levels. These results originally appeared in a paper of the same title that was accepted by the journal Integers, and was authored by the present author, with Paul Jenkins and Vicki
Early 20th Century Perceptions Of Civil Law-Common Law Difference: F.L. Joannini’S Spanish-English Civil Code Translations In Context, Seth S. Brostoff
Early 20th Century Perceptions Of Civil Law-Common Law Difference: F.L. Joannini’S Spanish-English Civil Code Translations In Context, Seth S. Brostoff
Journal of Civil Law Studies
The proper method for translating Spanish and Portuguese civil law concepts into English was a topic of debate among civil law scholars and comparatists at the turn of the last century. This article examines the translation approaches of three Americans (Clifford Walton, F.L. Joannini, and Joseph Wheless) who independently translated the Spanish, Colombian, Argentine, and Brazilian Civil Codes during the period 1899-1920. Specifically, Walton’s (1899) Spanish Civil Code translation’s use of common law English is con-trasted with Joannini’s Colombian (1905) and Argentine (1917) Civil Codes translations’ preference for a “civilian” legal lexicon, including substantial borrowing from the special civil law …
