First U-Pb Zircon Ages For Late Miocene Ashfall Konservat-Lagerstatte And Grove Lake Ashes From Eastern Great Plains, Usa, Jon J. Smith, Elijah Turner, Andreas Moller, Robert M. Joeckel, Rick E. Otto

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications

This paper documents the first U-Pb zircon ages for Ashfall Fossil Beds (Nebraska, USA), a terrestrial Konservat-Lagerstatte mass-death assemblage that is arguably the most diverse of its type and age. The Ashfall tephra was correlated with ignimbrites from the Bruneau-Jarbidge volcanic field (12.7–10.5 Ma) in southwest Idaho based on geochemical analysis. The methods and geochemical data supporting the original age assessment of the ash bed, however, were never published, and there has been a persistent misconception that dateable heavy minerals (e.g., zircon) are absent. Notwithstanding, we recovered abundant zircons from Ashfall Fossil Beds, and from an ash bed ~6 km …

Genome-Scale Microrna Target Prediction Through Clustering With Dirichlet Process Mixture Model, Zeynep M. Hakguder, Jiang Shu, Chunxiao Liao, Kaiyue Pan, Juan Cui

School of Computing: Faculty Publications

Background: MicroRNA regulation is fundamentally responsible for fine-tuning the whole gene network in human and has been implicated in most physiological and pathological conditions. Studying regulatory impact of microRNA on various cellular and disease processes has resulted in numerous computational tools that investigate microRNA-mRNA interactions through the prediction of static binding site highly dependent on sequence pairing. However, what hindered the practical use of such target prediction is the interplay between competing and cooperative microRNA binding that complicates the whole regulatory process exceptionally.

Results: We developed a new method for improved microRNA target prediction based on Dirichlet Process …

Safety-critical applications often use dependability cases to validate that specified properties are invariant, or to demonstrate a counter example showing how that property might be violated. However, most dependability cases are written with a single product in mind. At the same time, software product lines (families of related software products) have been studied with the goal of modeling variability and commonality, and building family based techniques for both analysis and testing. However, there has been little work on building an end to end dependability case for a software product line (where a property is modeled, a counter example is found …
